  • "We couldn't fault this lovely cottage and it's host, Paula who seemed to have thought of everything we might ever need for our stay."

The wonderful hamper that greeted us on our arrival was the best we have ever seen! Our stay was for 7 weeks during the winter months of January and February, we did enjoyed sitting by the log/coal burner in the lounge of an evening, there is also central heating and the cottage was cosy. The location is perfect for exploring Cheshire and all of North Wales with just a short drive to the North Wales Express A55 which quickly gets you to these areas. The village was idyllic with its river setting, 2 pubs and the local village shop/post office, and a children's park and we imagine even more picturesque in the summer. Everyone we met was kind and friendly. A special thanks to Paula who made sure we had the most amazing stay, on hand if we were to need anything yet unintrusive. We have stayed at a good number of cottages and this one comes top of our list.

Beautifully clean, spacious and well equipped. Paula was so attentive ensuring we had plenty of wood and coal daily. Fantastic hamper on arrival full of goodies and that also had treats and a toy for my pooch. Eggs, milk and bread also provided. Such peaceful surroundings and we all enjoyed every minute. We will definitely return again, we love the place.

  • "Absolutely stunning cottage."

Everything you needed. Hamper was the best we've had. Paula even topped up our logs for the fire when we were running low. Bit of confusion on departure time. Sykes said 12pm. On the board in cottage it said 10am. A welcome pack with information in would have been a bit clearer. Would have liked the heating to be on via thermostat as it was only set to come on for a couple of hours in the morning and at 7-9pm which due to weather and the storms we were cold when back earlier. However Paula did put it on earlier when we asked her. A blind is definitely needed in the bathroom as you can see shadows from the cafe and road. Minor things. Would certainly come back and recommend.

We were all so happy to stay here! So comfortable and had everything we needed and more besides! The welcome hamper was exceptional! Paula was on hand to answer any questions straight away. The log fire was all ready to go and was a real treat when the weather dropped! The little village is lovely. There’s a play park a few minutes away, a shop and a pub. Several walks for the doggies too. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much.

Everything you need is there if you want to cook in the gorgeous kitchen or there's a lovely pub (The Black Lion) just down the road if you want some really good pub food. The living room is really cosy and the beds are so comfy - best nights sleep I've had for a long time. The cottage was comfortable and really well equipped. The hamper was so nice and thoughtful. We were out and about a lot and didn’t see the owners much, but when we did Paula was lovely and helpful. One thing to note that we hadn’t seen on the cottage information was that there was a high chair and a stair gate, which was great and an added bonus as we were travelling with a toddler. When we entered the cottage we were very impressed with the high standard of the accommodation. The cottage is of a very high standard and the care and attention to detail is very clear to see. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch and certainly one of the nicest welcome gifts we have received at a holiday cottage and Jack certainly enjoyed his treats as well. The cottage has everything you need for a lovely relaxing break and is situated in a lovely location. The bedrooms are lovely and very spacious with plenty of storage space. Paula recommended a lovely local walk which we all enjoyed. Whilst at the cottage we visited , conwy, llandudno, Betws-y-coed to name but a few and these were all easy accessible by car from the cottage and certainly worth the trip. The village has two local pubs and a shop so you have everything you need with easy reach. This is certainly a cottage which we would highly recommend and one which we will return to in the future.

  • "What a lovely cottage, so clean and cosy feeling, the kitchen is fabulous and really well stocked, making it a real hub of the home."

The welcome hamper was fab and just what we needed when we arrived hungry and tired on the hottest day of the year. Paula lives next door and nothing is too much trouble but she also is not intrusive at all and the back garden is lovely and private and secluded. The big beds are soooo comfortable and we slept really well even my daughters who were sharing the super king size and they haven’t shared since they were little. The location is lovely nestled in a valley and right next to the river, even in the hot dry weather we found a spot just deep enough for an adult to swim. It was very busy at the weekend in the height of the heat wave but went quiet in the week and sometimes we had it to ourselves. It’s also only 8 mins from Abergele, where you can visit Gwrych castle where Celebritiy was filmed which is quite a stunning place despite its state of ruin. I would definitely stay here again it’s a lovely cottage in a beautiful spot with Paula as an excellent host, you kind of don’t want anyone to know about it but I also really wish Paula well with Pen-y-Bont as it’s well deserved.

We found the cottage with absolutely no problems. On arrival there was the most wonderful and very generous arrival basket with everything we needed after such a long journey. The house was fantastic, beds were very comfortable, it was quiet apart from the relaxing sound of the river at the bottom of the garden. It was a home filled with everything you could possibly need during your stay and as if the fabulous house was not enough there was a little cafe next door and a pub offering fabulous food just over the bridge. (No dogs allowed inside, but can sit outside with dog) There were some lovely walks straight from the door. Rustle up an evening meal for your loved ones to enjoy round the dining table before heading to the sitting room to relax with the warmth of the woodburning stove.

Climbing upstairs there is a super-king-size bedroom for when it’s time to retire to bed, a king-size bedroom where you will find it hard to take your eyes off the river views, and a sweet single bedroom for added privacy.

These well-finished bedrooms are complimented by a shower room, where guests can wash their sandy feet after a day at the beach or freshen up in time for a fancy evening out.

Outside, there is an enclosed garden with lawn for your furry friends to play and furniture to enjoy a spot of al fresco dining on the patio.

Pen Y Bont is just a stone's throw away from two village pubs, a post office which doubles as a shop for any essentials you may need, and a Olivia’s Café which serves takeaway breakfasts.

Slightly further along the coast is the shoreside town of Colwyn Bay where you can relax on a sandy beach, get involved with some watersports, take a stroll down the promenade, or visit the Welsh Mountain Zoo which is home to red pandas, tigers and snow leopards.

Nearby are the two beaches of Llandudno, alongside the promenade and bustling Victorian pier, as well as The Great Orme where you can enjoy a cable car ride over the world's largest prehistoric copper mine.

Also, within driving distance, you can also walk the castle walls at Conwy, enjoy a scenic walk within Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park or explore the SeaQuarium in Rhyl.
