  • "We had a fantastic time at Cwmalis Hall."

The house is great - good size communal areas, comfortable bedrooms and an excellent location. And the hot tub is amazing! Emma gave really clear info about the property and the area, and communication throughout was brilliant. I’d highly recommend Cwmalis Hall to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in a beautiful place. Thanks Emma!

  • "We stayed at the Cwmalis Hall for three night and had a lovely stay despite the rainy weather."

Our previously booked holiday cottage was cancelled last minute and we had family coming over from the Netherlands and Ireland. So I booked this property last minute on the day of arrival ( thanks to Sarah from Sykes Cottages who stayed ). The host Emma was very helpful the prepare the property for us last minute, she is very friendly and helpful with a quick response. The property was specious with lots of bedrooms just perfect for everyone. It's well equipped, nice garden with an amazing, large, private hot tub. Although the property needs some reparation and renovation as it's on the old side, with some cracks in the walls and moulds. When we arrived after couple of hours we had no warm water and the heatings kept going off at night which made the bedrooms cold, this was unpleasant as we had small kids with us. I would recommend staying at this property.

I’m pleased to hear you’d recommend staying. It was an absolute mission to get you in so last minute during the school holidays, but I’m happy I could help your family get together :-) The hall was build in 1770 so the plaster, most of which is original, was installed long before central heating, so cracks do appear. The joys of listed buildings. We did a complete refurbishment a few years ago including the heating/hot water system. I replied to your query about this within 5 minutes of you sending a message, as you must have missed the instructions in both the welcome pack I emailed to to you and framed on the wall in the entrance hall. As you discovered when I replied the ‘nest’ thermostat overrides the heating schedule I have set so you can set the temperature to your own comfort. As I also mentioned on my message, on your arrival the water tank hadn't completely re-heated after re-filling the hot tub later in the day than usual (we put fresh hot water in for every group so it’s super clean and ready for immediate use, but this is normally done in the morning. I couldn’t start the change-over until 2pm when I could travel to the hall myself). It's a big tank, but it heats really quickly when boosted from the ‘nest’ the instructions for which were also in the information sent over/on the wall. I’m pleased you had such a lovely stay though - Emma Property Owner

  • "Cwmalis Hall is a perfect retreat for a larger family/friend group to spend time together."

The kitchen facilities were all we needed & more. The house layout allows for 'all-together' time as well as opportunities to escape for a bit of quiet time. The garden is lovely & we loved watching the grey wagtails skimming the lawn for food to take back to the nest regularly. The hot tub was a welcome treat after a day of exploring. There is a large selection of board games & books, to suit all ages. Cwmalis Hall is near enough to Llangollen to nip out (in the car) to collect forgotten items for dinner - thank you Aldi! We stayed for a week & thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The location is great for getting out & about & exploring some beautiful parts of North Wales. We met Emma & were very grateful for her quick response to a plumbing issue (it's a beautiful old house, these things happen). If you're looking for a large, quirky & charming house in a great location, we would definitely recommend Cwmalis House & thank Emma for giving us this opportunity.

  • "Loved the house and we all had a great time."

Warm, very well set out, nice feeling and obviously fairly recently refurbished. Could do with a dust pan and brush and some moaning about uncomfortable bed second from the drive end . Could do with a handle on wall by big hipbath ( its actually quite hard to get out! )The piano is not really up to scratch with 3 pianists on board but apart from that we all really enjoyed our stay.

Thanks Hugh. So pleased to hear you loved your stay. And thanks for the feedback. I recently replaced all but two of the mattresses so I'll investigate. The piano seems to have taken quite a pounding from guests since it last had some TLC - I'll look into getting it back up to scratch... Property Owner

The house was perfect for our university reunion weekend, the log burner made for warm and cosy friday evening of games in the living room. The large dining table was great for social eating and all the other facilities in the house were ideal. Hot tub was fantastic, great for relaxing in. Some of the group enjoyed a game of croquet on the lawn, and the sheep that wandered down off the fell enjoyed the grass too! Location was really good and allowed us to easily drive to visit the famous aquaduct and also go on a lovely 5 mile walk from there to the castle dinas along the panorama road - would reccommend. Excellent local pastry shop in Llaongollen and enjoyed a trip on the steam railway, including joining the driver in the engine! A fantastic weekend.

  • "We were a family group of three generations and the property suited us perfectly."

Enough space for everyone inside and outside without feeling on top of one another. The hot tub is a particular highlight and was well used by our group. The house is very comfortable and well equipped, though one bath/shower was out of action during our stay (which Emma had told us about) hence the slightly lower rating for facilities. Emma was a fab host and was on hand if we needed her but left us to enjoy our holiday. The house and gardens are so beautiful and we enjoyed the setting of the Dee valley. Emma also left us a very generous welcome pack- the ginger and chocolate biscuits were a particular hit! We walked to Llangollen twice - the more adventurous route is a beautiful hike over the surrounding hills (highly recommended) with a pub stop overlooking the river at the end. We also ate at the Three Eagles in Llangollen during our stay and can recommend. There is plenty to do in the area (mostly a car ride away) and Llangollen is a good base from which to explore. Note- if you have a dog be prepared for them to be on a lead outside as the garden isn’t enclosed and the house is on a very busy main road. The road also needs to be navigated to get to any dog walking areas (or a short car ride). The wooded area at the front of the house is very special- we didn’t have any small children in our group but i suspect kids would love this addition. We would definitely rebook Cwmalis Hall and have already recommended it to others. We hope to return!

The one main concern was the lack of wardrobe space in the rooms. We were staying for a week and in most rooms only draws were provided no wardrobe space .We also felt the property could have been cleaned more thoroughly for example dust under the beds and a grill pan that had not been cleaned. I fully understand with a a quick turnaround things can get missed. The owners seem nice people and were very kind in sending my daughters keyboard she accidently left behind . A welcome pack was also provided which was a nice touch .

The kitchen was so well equipped and to an excellent standard too. There were plenty of bathrooms too. The hot tub was the extra touch- great for a spot of bubbly in the evening. • "We were absolutely delighted with all aspects of our stay at Cwmalis Hall."

The location is great, kitchen well-equipped and more than enough space to chill out, dine and explore outside for our large party of 6 family groups. The self-contained lounge with a wall-mounted TV was ideal for entertaining the smaller children and the snug/dining/kitchen area worked well for spending time together as a full group without being in each other's pockets. There were more than enough mugs, glasses, plates etc to meet the capacity of the house, and the quality of appliances and kitchen equipment was much better than the average holiday let. The hot tub was straightforward to use and I can imagine the terrace area being very well-used in warmer months. The owner was very accommodating and helpful, with quick responses to email contact. There were sensible accommodations to ensure the property could remain Covid-safe should legislation or guidelines change. We did not need to use these at the time of our trip, but at the time of booking it was very reassuring that this had been thought through and that our holiday would go ahead in most cases, short of full lockdown and travel restrictions. All in all one of our best finds in almost 20 years of self-catering stays as a group.

Location near to Llangollen was great aswell. House was very clean, warm and had plenty of space for my daughters hen weekend.Loads of towels for the hot tub although we had our own aswell. The only couple of things I would say could be improved is the signage at the entrance as it is not very clear and as you are turning off quite a fast road it can be tricky, and the downstairs bedroom has no where to hang clothes.
