Cream doughnuts awaiting us were a nice surprise! Great secluded location. A wardrobe (only drawers available) would've been a nice addition (there was plenty of space for one in the main bedroom). As would have been an extra bin liner.

We ate at the Red Lion Inn which we would highly recommend. We were slightly disappointed to find that the TV had no wifi capability so we couldn't use it to access our Netflix accounts etc. Also the wifi wasn't very strong, especially in poor weather. Overall would recommend.

Everything you need is in Swallow Barn. The kitchen was perfect, and having a bonus utility to leave wet shoes and coats is ideal. The views are stunning and the position is superb. Only a 20 minute drive into Shrewsbury with Ellesmere and Whitchurch within 30 minutes drive. Received a nice welcome from Geoff the owner who was on hand if needed. The bed was very comfortable and it was nice to have a separate lounge and kitchen, both well proportioned. The five young bullocks in the adjacent field provided some light entertainment during their visits throughout the day, would highly recommend this property.

Our children enjoyed the friendly cows very much and there was lots of other wildlife to see outside too. We walked around Nesscliffe and Colemere, visited Ellesmere and the Battlefield 1403 centre (fun tractor barn for the children!). The only thing the children would have liked is some more toys/ games for rainy days. The barn is comfortable and relaxing, we'd be very happy to stay again :-)

Beds very comfortable, and dining room chairs perfectly shaped bad backs. Peaceful location with three friendly cattle for neighbours. • "We had a very relaxing week at Swallow Barn."

There is plenty of off road parking adjacent to the barn. It is light with views of the open countryside from all the windows which we liked. It is warm and comfortable and there are many places to visit within a short travelling distance. We self catered due to the barn’s rural location and thought it would benefit from a better set of kitchen utensils and a lidded casserole dish. The handle of one of the saucepans was broken so may not last much longer. The bathroom tiles seem to be moving do need attention too but these things did not prevent us enjoying our stay there. Thank you for the flowers, cake and milk and a good week’s holiday.

  • "Ideal setting for a countryside escape."

Private setting with easy access to many places of interest such as Chirk Castle, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Llanymynech Rocks and Nesscliffe Country Park and many more besides especially in the warmer months with longer daylight hours. We especially appreciated the milk and cake in the fridge and several things about the property itself: the entrance hall/utility area for drying wet coats and muddy boots, the spacious dining kitchen, the underfloor heating and, because we stayed over the Christmas period, the tree. As someone else has mentioned there is no real option to walk locally except along the road but for us this was a minor aspect and we enjoyed our stay overall very much.

  • "Swallow Barn was the peaceful escape to the countryside that we were looking for, we found it very easily."

It’s completely private with only daily visits from our cow neighbours who our kids (6 & 3) just loved. The rural views are gorgeous and the birds and the occasional rumble of the tractors on the lane nearby was also a delight for our youngest boy. Swallow Barn itself was spacious, uncluttered and comfortable and catered well for our home cooking and relaxing times. Like most holiday homes we always bring our own absolute essentials, ie coffee stove, kids cups and cutlery (and paddling pool for the hot weather) etc but felt that it was it was well stocked. The owner was very friendly and accommodating as we arrived very late in the pitch black and he popped on the lights so we could find it and was on hand if we needed him. We enjoyed the hottest weather (don’t forget your bug spray and wall plug ins), popped our paddling pool on the patio for daily dunks and can highly recommend this area for such a broad range of things to do and places to visit. Especially loved walking in Ellesmere/ Colemere and exploring the amazing Hawkstone Park Follies only a short drive away. Thanks for a lovely stay, we shall definitely return to Shropshire.

On entering the barn the guests had left it clean and tidy but was particularly hot.The under floor heating thermostat was set at 20 degrees. The heating is constant and the temperature can be controlled on the wall mounted thermostat at guests discrection. If the thermostat is left at 20 all week when the outside temperature is over20 on good days the actual temperature will be in excess of 25 in the barn and could be an attraction for nuisance flies.Nice and cosy in the winter though. Really quiet & peaceful. Lots of attractions within 30-40mins drive. Had to clean oven door & bit dusty otherwise good level of cleanliness. Owner very helpful & obliging: we struggled to work the heating & he popped round & showed us. Also brought us a brand new ironing board when we advised none available. A solid 9/10. Would have rated 10/10 if following hadn't been missing: Mirror and wardrobe in bedroom. There is an airing cupboard in utility area where a few clothes can be hung though. Tin opener Washing line Would also benefit from more comfortable outdoor seating so can relax outside on patio, bit more crockery, slightly larger sofas & dining table for those who wish to spend more time in accommodation. I had no issues finding the place, simply google then streetview you will see the main buildings, barn opposite. What I really enjoyed about the barn was it remote enough, you can star gaze at night, which where I live is difficult. Accomodation is well furnished really enjoyed the kitchen and living room layout. Internet worked, on a few occasion dropped out but no real dramas. Children 5 & 6. Near to Shrewsbury but I do enjoy the clean good standard, with a local friendly village. I shall come again maybe with friends as a couple or as a group wanting to ramble and explore local trails?

Living room was much larger than expected from the photos which was a bonus. Owner was very friendly and helpful when I needed to contact him. Good supply of essentials: washing up liquid, toilet paper, dishwasher tabs, kitchen roll, etc. A good selection of DVDs and local activity info pamphlets were provided. CONs - mostly well equipped, but there was no tumble drier, and crockery was a bit sparse (only 3 bowls for 4 people). Beds were very hard and we didn’t find them comfortable. WiFi access was very poor. We contacted the owner about this, and he was very helpful, but in the end, we learned that we just needed to reboot it several times a day, sometimes several times an hour. This was frustrating when trying to skype home to my husband when we would lose internet repeatedly during the same call or when trying to research, book, and pay for activities. There was no information provided in the barn regarding things like recycling and what to do with rubbish. Being a bungalow, we didn’t feel safe having the windows open at night, as there was no way to safely lock them just partially open, so in this current summer heat, we were uncomfortably warm at night.
