  • "We have just spent a wonderful week at Mickle Trafford Manor."

The house and garden were exceptional - as was the weather! There was plenty of room for us all to get together, a party of 10, but also space for quiet time if needed, The games room was a big hit with the children and my husband was very jealous of the scooter, the selection of vinyl LPs also went down well with the adults. Sam and John were great hosts, on the end of the phone or text when you needed them. We all agreed it was the best house we have been in and we've been in quite a few!

Family of 7. Nothing negative to say at all. Sammie the owner is very accommodating and lives local so on hand to deal with any minor issues. Lovely big bedrooms and en suite bathrooms. Fabulous garden. Very well kept and tended. Supermarkets are about an 8 minute drive. 50 minute drive takes you into North wales. Overall we had a great time. Would happily return.

We stayed at the unbelievable Manor which was so clean and breath taking, for a family catch up and to celebrate some birthdays and Easter. There were 10 of us from our family staying here, age ranges from 4years to teens to 75years and every single one of us were entertained with this amazing house, garden and facilities!l the games room and sauna are out of this world we spent so much time here and in the lovely hot tub! You can’t get any better than Sam the host - nothing is too much trouble, she is lovely and easy going and makes you feel so welcome with some fab personal touches (the lemon cake was delicious thank you!) It was so comfortable, especially the enormous beds! Sammie gave us a lovely warm welcome, and made sure we had everything we needed. Storms Dudley and Eunice meant we didn't use the hot tub, but we had fun playing pool, air hockey and table football. Great facilities. And of course beautiful Chester is only a short drive away. The recommended private chef was the icing on the cake, the roast dinner she cooked for us was sublime.

Fantastic break in a beautiful, much loved house and garden. Great location for our family get together. Our only slight issue was some of the step depths and having to use toilet in games /garden room during the day time for people with limited mobility.

  • "The house is amazing!"

Five en-suite bedrooms, most with huge beds, some very spacious indeed. The kitchen was large and well equipped, with two large fridges - really useful when storing drinks for 5 couples. The lounge was equally impressive with large sofas, single chairs and window seats. The games room with pub-style pool table was a real bonus, with the sauna and hot-tub being well used too. Ample parking to the front of the manor house and a couple of pubs within a mile of the property made it an ideal stay. Sam and her father were excellent hosts and we were very grateful for their flexibility in allowing us both and early check-in and late check-out. The only downside came as a consequence of staying in such an old historic building with several of us taller folk finding low doorways a bit of a challenge with a few sore heads. Anyone needing a spacious, high quality property close to Chester need look no further.

The facilities were amazing with each room having it's own en-suite. In addition, there was an amazing living room and kitchen dining space with snug. The hot tub was a superb way to relax and the games room provided us with endless hours of entertainment. A fabulous property which I would book again in a heartbeat.

  • "I cannot praise this property enough - it was everything we expected and so much more."

Sam and her dad were so welcoming, friendly and helpful, both prior to our stay and throughout. This was the first opportunity we were able to come together as a family in two years, so we wanted it to be special and this house made sure that it was. The property is gorgeous with so much history and character. With a choice of reception rooms and a huge main lounge was a choice for everyone to come together and also have their own space - there were 9 adults, a three year old and 5 month old in our party. All of the bedrooms were really spacious, with comfortable beds and ensuite bathrooms. The kitchen/diner was perfect for family meals, games and had everything we needed. The welcome of a home baked lemon cake, mince pies and chocolate coins was just icing on the cake. The outside of the property was equally impressive - games room with sauna, hot tub and foot spa - what more could you possibly want. We welcomed the new year in the garden with our feet in the spa - perfect! If you book this property you cannot fail to be impressed and thoroughly enjoy your stay. We are already thinking about how to plan for a follow up.

  • "We originally had this cottage booked for 2020, due to covid restrictions we couldn't go."

Sykes changed it over to 2021 no problem at all. Before our arrival date I was contacted by the owner to see if I had any questions or any specific requests, also (due to it being possible) she allowed us to check in earlier than the stated time which was wonderful for us. The Cottage was outstanding, a real WOW factor, the kitchen is extremely well equipped with two large fridges so one can hold food the other lots of drinks!! (There was 10 of us!) There are so many wonderful places to sit, the living room is large and comfortable, the kitchen has a fantastic table that seats 10 and outdoors there is another table to seat 10 as well as lovely garden furniture. They even provide a fire pit (small extra charge for wood) so on one evening we all sat outside around the firepit until late, it was a perfect evening. The layout of the garden is well thought out, the hot tub is large and there is a brilliant games room and a sauna! The bedrooms are all ensuite, the one with the balcony is so nice to have your morning cuppa on! We are all ladies late 40's and we stay in a Sykes cottage every year, this was definitely be one of the best we have chosen to stay in

The kitchen was a great place to cook and dine together and the lounge was also big enough for us to all get together in the evenings if the weather pushed us out of the beautiful garden. The icing on the cake though was the newly completed games room - what a genius idea! We spent so much time here that we really didn't need to go out much. There's a pool table, darts, table football and a number of other family games too. There are also plans for a sauna and shower room to be added shortly. It was a great place for us all to socialise and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Sam and John were excellent hosts, very welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. They certainly do seem to have thought of everything with this gorgeous house right down to the little basket by the door with spare masks and sanitiser. We can't recommend this place highly enough.

  • "Sam was lovely and the welcome gift was most appreciated - she did say that her father would be in to water pots each day and check the hot tub."

We did find this a bit intrusive and the hot tub was not fit for purpose for most of the week due to thermostat problems - we booked a property specificaly with a hot tub and paid a premium for it but didnt get it!!!! Money is being spent by the owner on a games room and sauna in the garden - the whole party agreed that the money should be spent on having a working hot tub with chemicals in ( there were non on the last 2 days) and on fitments within the Manor - which we appreciate is an old building - but needs attention. We informed Sam on our departure of all the little snags we found and she did start correcting them - to many to mention on here. The overall stay was great and lots of room for the children but i would say a lot more work needs to be done to meet the usual high standards of a Sykes property that we have come to enjoy on previous holidays.

I feel your time staying at the Manor has been disappointing. As I do take it very personally if a guest party hasn't experienced a comfortable stay especially after the year in which we have all experienced. I will firstly address the hot tub. As you stated the thermostat broke and a hot tub engineer was called to replace, unfortunately he connected it to the wrong pipe so this caused a delay in usage. Our hot tub is emptied and cleaned and filled with fresh water for every guest party. Chemicals are used only when dipsticks indicate the chemical balance required, this is done at first light so not to disturb your stay. To make our garden full of summer colours, we have planted pots of bedding plants, they need watering. Each guest party are told this on arrival. On your departure you very kindly shared a few issues you encountered all of which could have been easily rectified at your convenience. We do rely on guests to notify us with issues and it is disappointing you were unable to do this during your stay. Thank you for your comments, customer feedback is very important to help us continue to improve our standards. Property Owner

All of the bedrooms are a good size, and the bathrooms are well appointed with up to date power showers etc. The larger drawing room has lots of seating for big get togethers, and we loved the large kitchen diner which also has the bonus of comfy seating at one end so it’s very sociable. Everything was very clean and comfortable, and we were lucky enough to have warm sunny weather so it was lovely to relax in the garden. Sam, the owner was extremely helpful and friendly. She went above and beyond to make sure that we were happy, was very flexible on check in and check out times, and when we asked for recommendations for takeaways, came up with some excellent ones (it was that period of semi lockdown when only outside dining was available and we preferred to sit in the comfort of the Manor to eat). Highly recommended and we will be back another time.
