  • "What a lovely little gem of a property!"

Away from it all, but near enough to the beach (1 mile) and the local shops/cafes. Really quiet other than the natural countryside noises and a total sun trap when the weather is nice, which it was all week. Some have commented on the lane going to the property which is indeed narrow, but its perfectly negotiable and I never actually encountered another vehicle when driving. For info I drive a 4x4 so unless you're trying to drive down a lorry I think you'll be ok. Perfect for walkers, with me and the dog clocking up over 90 miles in the week. The local pubs can get VERY busy on the weekend in summer as can the beach, but there are much quieter ones further afield in the car. The house is west facing, so can get VERY hot in the sun so best keep the curtains closed. It would benefit from blackout curtains in the bedroom such as those in the lounge but I guess this is down to personal preference. Please note there is also no washing machine here, so get your elbow grease ready for the handwash! Alternatively there is an laundry in the village. Hosts are tremendous and couldn't do enough. Local amenities are grand, including an emergency visit to the vets who couldn't help enough. All that remains to say is diolch!

Thanks very much for the review. Very pleased you had such a lovely stay. Liz & Dick Property Owner

Such a beautiful location with absolutely breathtaking views. The peace and quiet was just incredible. Lots of beautiful walks, a couple of hours spent sat on the beach at the Ty Coch Inn with some lovely food. Next time we need a longer stay, as so much to do and see. Thanks for the review. Spring is a lovely time of year on the Llyn . Hopefully you can stay for longer next time, maybe see you in the Ty Coch. Property Owner

  • "We had a fabulous 10 day stay."

The cottage is situated in a lovely location and is an ideal base for walking and cycling. The owners Liz & Dick are lovely and made us feel very welcome. They invited us to see their farm animals & my husband helped to deliver a lamb which was a wonderful experience and one we will treasure. The cottage had everything we needed and our 2 children enjoyed playing in the garden and watching the wildlife. Having read the previous reviews regarding the narrow lane, we didn’t have a problem in our Land Rover Defender which easily fit and we didn’t encounter any oncoming cars. We will certainly be booking again in the future and have already recommended to our friends & family.

  • "The cottage is idyllic and very well appointed inside."

The owners had decorated for Xmas which made it a real home from home and it was a very pleasant place to be over the Xmas break. I would recommend Y Big wholeheartedly to friends and family but as it is on three different levels, it's not for people with mobility issues.

Thanks for your comments. We're glad you had a nice Christmas at Y Big. Property Owner

  • "Everything about the cottage was first class."

The downside is the journey to the cottage down a very narrow lane with numerous bends. I had to use the car horn on numerous occasions due to the fear of another vehicle arriving at a blind spot. There were two occasions when I had to reverse to let vehicles pass. If I recommended this cottage to anyone, I would have to mention the Lane.

Many thanks for your feedback - as you suggested, we will add a note in our Welcome email regarding Cefn Morfa being narrow. Unfortunately, many lanes in the area are the same, fortunately Cefn Morfa isn't busy. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is in good proximity to explore several beautiful beaches on the Llyn peninsula."

The lane to the property is very narrow which may be problematic if you have a large vehicle, it would be good to have this information in the description of the property so people are aware. Overall we had a nice holiday, apart from being woken in the middle of the night on several occasions by a large dog barking right outside the bedroom window. We also assume this dog was responsible for the dog mess we kept finding in the garden and on the drive by the car, which wasn’t ideal with two young children.

Thanks for your feedback. The dog belongs to a neighbour & we have mentioned your comments to her. Property Owner

  • "The property location is fantastic and the view beautiful."

It was lovely to sit out and watch the wildlife. The cottage was very comfortable with comfy beds. Very clean and welcoming. Footstools would be nice, as after a long day sightseeing and walking, putting your feet up would be lovely! Otherwise, almost perfect. My wife loves a bath and would have liked to have a soak, but it’s not a deal breaker. Just to mention also that the tin opener isn’t very good.

We have replaced the tin opener.....nothing more annoying than a dodgy tin opener! We will also look into getting a couple of foot stools. Suggestions are always welcome, thanks very much. Property Owner

  • "Such a lovely, cute cottage that was clean and cosy."

In the most perfect spot with an amazing view, our stay was blissfully peaceful. Secluded, private and welcoming. We stayed for just the weekend but managed to fit in a lot of exploring including the many beaches and driving through the stunning Llanberis Pass. Communication from the owners was excellent and the cake in particular was much appreciated and very yummy! Plenty of local shops and lots of options for food in the neighbouring villages. A very enjoyable weekend.

Y Big is a traditional single storey detached Welsh cottage located on the outskirts of the pretty seaside village of Morfa Nefyn.

It boasts wonderful views down the Llyn Peninsula to the slopes of Garn Fadryn and its ancient fort. Within easy reach of pubs, shops and cafes, yet offering quiet and seclusion, this is a splendid private retreat and ideal location for families seeking a break in North Wales. Located down a quiet private lane the property has off-road parking.

Step in through the comfortable conservatory into the well equipped kitchen with its large farmhouse style dining table. To the right there are two steps down to the cosy lounge with a wood burning stove, 2 black leather settees and a large screen TV and leading off that is the double bedroom with its own en-suite WC and basin. On the other side of the kitchen a short corridor leads to the wet room, with its walk-in shower, basin and WC and to the twin bedded room with large built-in wardrobes.

The corridor also leads to the back door and small storage area. Outside there is a paved area with an outside dining table and chairs, with fantastic views down the peninsula and a particularly good spot for enjoying sunsets.

There is also a chiminea to keep you warm in the evenings once the sun has gone down.

Steps from this area lead up to the lawn.

If you fancy a meal out, a stone-built 19th century pub, Y Bryncynan, is about 15 minute walk away and in the opposite direction, towards Morfa Nefyn you’ll find the famous Ty Coch Inn, voted the third most popular beach bar in the world.

There is also brewery in Nefyn with a bar that is open to the public that brews an array of real ales.

The cottage is also handy for the other shops, pubs, restaurants & takeaways in Morfa Nefyn & Nefyn. The Llyn Peninsula offers glorious coastal paths and idyllic coves and beaches – fantastic for wildlife lovers, walkers or family days on the sand.

Learn about local heritage in the picturesque village of Nefyn, home to a Maritime Museum, an old harbour wall and a wonderful beach.

About a 15 minute drive is the bustling market town of Pwllheli where you can dine at a traditional pub, explore the shops, wander around the marina or enjoy one of Pwllheli’s two magnificent beaches. Further afield lie the dramatic landscapes of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, the castles at Criccieth, Harlech and Caernarvon, the exhilarating Zip World at Penrhyn Quarry, the heritage railways from Porthmadog to Ffestiniog or Caernarvon and the Italianate splendour of Portmerion where the 60’s TV classic ‘The Prisoner’ was filmed.
