It was lovely to come back from Snowdon and be able to have a soak in a bath. The log fire came in very handy in those colder October evenings. Will definitely be recommending this cottage and hopefully will be able to stay here again

  • "The property itself was beautiful and had everything you could need for a week away."

However, the bed and sofa were extremely uncomfortable and the TV was faulty. The mattress is old and neither of us had a good sleep on the nights we remained there. We did message the owners and they brought a single mattress topper and a duvet to improve the comfort which didn't make any difference. The sofa itself was manufactured in 2005 and so it is very soft in the seat area with no support and so uncomfortable. The TV has a strange flashing/pixelation on the screen. We returned home 2 days early with sore backs and very tired and disappointed.

  • "The place was clean and welcoming."

It was comfortable and cosy and well maintained. However, "Dogs Welcome" and "Dog Suitable" are different things. There is no grass whatever, despite the photographs and our medium sized dog jumped the wall into the road on our first evening there. She won't do anything on gravel so we had to get up early each day and go out late at night for her to do her business. Finally, the stairs are a death trap and desperately need a hand rail. This is a relatively easy fix I would think.

Thank you for your feedback, You mentioned no grass whatsoever, despite the photographs - I’ve double checked all the photos published on Sykes website and there aren’t any showing any grass at the property. Furthermore it states within the description that there are ‘patios to front and side’ and the pictures show this is paved and gravel. That said there is public grassed areas just a few metres from the entrance to the property, as well as a footpath along open fields. You also mentioned medium sized dog jumped the wall - again the photos show the wall to the front of the property. I would expect any guest, who know their dogs the best, to ensure their dog is under control at all times. Finally, the stairs are a death trap - I feel this maybe overstating their opinion a little. However, within the description on your website it clearly states in the Summary section (2nd to last bullet under ‘Note’) that there is no handrail. I would expect guests to make their own assessment of their needs vs property descriptions to ensure it is suitable for their needs. Thank you again, I hope you had a lovely stay with us. Plenty of space, lots of character, well-appointed, very good bathroom, lovely views and amazingly comfy bed! From the ‘doggy viewpoint’, a safe confined garden/yard, plenty of doors to prevent roaming, marvellous walks not far away (and friendly neighbours with walkie tips!). Very helpful owner was always available to answer any queries. We’ve stayed at lots of doggy-friendly cottages over the years and both agree this ranks amongst the best.

The woodburner was a lovely addition to the comfort of this warm cottage. for a break out of season. Thank you again to our hosts for making the fire up all ready for us. My husband has some mobility issues and found access to the shower in the bath difficult. A bath mat may have helped reassure him. Getting up and down in the bath was also difficult and a rail on the bathside may have eased this difficulty. The stairs are quite steep and uneven as to be expected in an old cottage. We managed these but a second handrail would have made my husband feel more safe. Thank you again . We loved the cottage and its location.

Kitchen is well stocked and the property is clean and tidy . Nice rural location with countryside views . Shops and amenities available in Mold a short drive away . The property has no garden but does have a small attractive courtyard . Definitely a property for one couple only although there is a small flip out sofa in the bedroom which may be suitable for a child . The bathroom is en-suite and a nice standard . The heat is electric and on timers so it can be quite cold in the day time if poor weather forces you inside , there is a lovely log burner and an additional plug in electric heater available if needed . The only thing I personally found lacking was a decent light for reading . I look forward to relaxing with a book on holiday . Unfortunately being a cottage natural light is limited and there are no lights adequate for reading . Overall a nice , well kept property that makes a good base for exploring north Wales and Chester or for people in to hiking or biking .

We read a disappointing review just before we left for this short stay but fortunately we found no reason to complain in a similar way. Between June 28 - July 02 we found Ty Cerrig to be clean, tidy, with a kind welcome gift of Welsh cakes, milk and other basics in the kitchen. • "In a delightful village and close to lots of stunning places, however, we were very disappointed with the cottage."

It was grubby and desperately in need of a deep clean; it felt unloved. I was under the impression that deep cleaning was mandatory in properties due to the Covid crisis, this is certainly not the case at Ty Cerrig. Dirty window frames, months of dirt underneath the sideboard which could be seen when sitting on the sofa, and the bathroom floor was so grimy that we mopped it before using the bathroom. The furniture pieces were all oddments, nothing matched. No comfortable seating outside and the back of the bench was broken. The website describes the outside as a place to sit back and relax which is absolutely impossible as the furniture is a metal table and chairs, this was not conducive with being able to relax! The website also states that the cottage will accommodate up to 4 people; the outside area certainly could not accommodate four people! Cobwebs everywhere inside, cracks and flaking paint in the bedroom and dirt on plug sockets. In the lounge, the tops of pictures were filthy. The back door sill was full of detritus. There was a tiny bedside lamp in the lounge which was inadequate for the size of the room. There were two plastic dehumidifying containers full of water in the bedroom and bathroom which were unsightly. No welcome folder in the property. The shower hose bracket was fixed (not a riser rail) and is fine if you are 5 feet 7 or shorter, otherwise it's necessary to stand with bent knees to wash one's hair! Overall, a very disappointed property. It could be absolutely fabulous if more care was taken with it. I get the feeling that whoever owns this property has really lost interest in it, which is a great shame. I definitely would not stay here again!

The only improvement that could be made to the holiday cottage would have been the addition of wi-fi (which would have been especially useful at th moment as some of the local tourist information centres were closed or had restricted access due to Covid-19). Surprising (at least to me) range of things to do and places to visit within a 25 mile radius of Nercwys: picturesque villages, bustling market towns (e.g. Mold), cities (Chester), seaside towns (Rhyl, Prestatyn, Colwyn Bay, etc.), loads of countryside walks to suit all abilities, theatres, cinemas, stately homes and gardens, loads of castles ('tho' a lot of them ruins), tourist hotspot (Llangollen, with its steam railway), and even a World Heritage Site at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal. Despite the Covid-19 restrictions, we were still able to find plenty to occupy us throughout our week's stay. Whatever sort of holiday you might want (restful/ activity-packed/ historical/ cultural/ countryside/ beach, etc.) this area seems able to offer something for everyone.
