“Perfect!”
After a dark, rainy traffic filled Friday night drive we were greeted by a beautiful warm, friendly house with tasty coffee cakes on the table as we arrived.
The first thing that struck me was the house was like the photos, countless times I have been to places that look like the Buckingham Palace online and you arrive to something more comparable to what you see on grime busters. The house was incredibly well equip with plenty of pots, pans, wine glasses, serving dishes, gravy jugs and even right down to egg cups. The house had such a homely feel with plenty of books, games, dvd's and with a trip down memory lane with the cd collection.
I went through Sykes Cottages who provided a well organised seamless service. They have people available to answer any questions till late in the evening and at weekends which was great with organising the trip around work.
The lady in the local pub 'The Horse and Jockey' was very friendly and helped with directions getting to the cottage as I could not get hold of the owner. When we visited on the Saturday night for food, it was okay pub grub, very quiet with only a couple of locals and with below average service which was disappointing after such fantastic experience whilst contacting them over the phone. Nonetheless it was great to have somewhere within walking distance.
Slight glitches with the house were the windows and doors were terribly fitted and it was a real struggle opening and closing them. I found the owner a little abrupt when I called for extra details and to arrange key collection. The ten o'clock departure was very early, especially as they arrived to prepare the cottage dead on 10am.
Overall it was a great weekend with some lovely walks nearby, a real escape to the country. The house is well capable of holding big groups of people without being either overly big or cramp. I couldn't have hoped for a more perfect place.
I definitely recommend and should the occasion occur I will be returning.
