  • "What a fantastic cottage."

We had 3 little ankle biters with is and the garden was just perfect for them to run about. There were also some toys there for them. Also, what was a nice touch, was the plates and cups for them (as the parents had forgot to pack them) The location was great, no noise and was such a relaxing place to spend with family. I would recommend this and we were also talking about a return trip

Great space both indoors and outdoors and all the mod cons. We could have happily spent the week lazily lounging in the house and gardens, though also some beautiful countryside just on the doorstep.

  • "The house and garden was perfect for our family holiday."

The house was very well equipped and big enough for us all for us to spread out. The garden was well fenced so we didn’t need to worry about our grandson or the dogs getting on to the road and large enough to play lots of games. Wonderfully quiet and on a clear night we enjoyed some star gazing. We couldn’t have asked for more!

  • "We had a wonderful stay at Top House!"

We spent most of our time in the amazing kitchen and both us and our dogs loved the underfloor heating. The house is very spacious with good facilities and extremely well equipped. Our only recommendation would be to try and enclose the garden as dogs can run out onto the road. We kept ours on leads all the time.

  • "The house was wonderful and the garden was amazing."

My Husband had been working from home since March and needed a change of scenery, we booked last-minute and there wasn't many listings left that met our requirements (mainly detached and a lovely garden). The house was too big for us really and we didn't use most of the rooms but the main living room was well equip and comfortable and the kitchen was perfect, lovely and big and every item we could think of was there. We did well for the weather (end of Sept into early Oct) and ate most of our meals at the lovely teak table and chairs on the patio. We saw so much wildlife in the garden and had the most amazing peace and quiet, it was a dream come true. We didn't eat-out due to the current pandemic so we brought most of our provisions from the Tesco or Co-Op in Ellesmere just down the road, we'd eat our meal at Top House then go for a walk around a lake/mere or nature reserve. We did go to Shrewsbury town centre and found a cafe that made fabulous cakes, 'Cafe on the Cop', we brought some to take-away and took them back to the house to eat in the garden with a cup of tea, bliss. We were so glad we choose Top House for our holiday, it's perfect for a romantic get-away and would definitely be ideal for a large family get-together.

  • "We enjoyed a half term week at Top House, three generations and a couple of birthdays to celebrate one being an eightieth."

The house is ideal for many good visits and days out without having to drive too far. Swimming pool in local town of Wem Was very handy for rainy days with kids. Ellesmere is superb for walks and a again a great playground. In the house, the dining kitchen is really nice and well equipped and is definitely at the heart of the house. Under floor heating keeps this room nice and warm and there are bifold doors with lovely view onto large garden area. The main lounge is snug with a wood burner fire and there is a second lounge which works well as a kids area. Both rooms have TVs with usual apps built in. WiFi is good. Overall a lovely house for a medium sized group. If you want piece and quiet though we would not recommend the downstairs double room as noise transfers from room above and kitchen/utility area. There was scaffolding on adjacent buildings last week as they are developments taking place. This didn’t cause a problem for us. Thankyou for the lovely treats on arrival.

  • "Our holiday comprised 3 generations including 5 young children."

The property has a very large garden where the children could play safely. The kitchen has 2 ovens which meant we could cook the large meals required, and a huge table where we could all sit together. There is plenty of seating in the lounge(s); we all tended to use the main lounge in the evening to watch TV and the children used the smaller lounge as a playroom. Numerous children's’ toys and books were provided. The nearest town is Ellesmere and there is plenty to do and to explore locally.

  • "Unfortunately one tv in the playroom did not work the other worked but a Little intermittently."

This could have been a problem for us but our grandchildren did not make it in the end although we had booked for them. Some of the crockery was less than clean and one or two towels had marks on them. There was no firewood to use which didn’t matter to us but would have done on the winter. It would have been nice to light a fire but not a big problem. Small niggles really but did not spoil the holiday.

Thank you for your feedback. The owner is a little disappointed with your comments regarding the crockery as she spent the whole of the previous weeks cleaning the carpets and windows at the property and would have expected the previous guests to ensure that the plates were clean before they put them away. With reference to the tea towels, the owner advised that the cleaners took her own tea towels away to be laundered and left their own in its place. The fire was made ready for use and any additional fire wood can be purchased from the owner if required. The TV in the playroom is a little temperamental and the owner is looking into replacing it soon. Over all we hope your comments didn't detract from your stay at Top House. Property Owner

The dining kitchen was huge and well equipped and overlooked the garden with doors that could have been opened out if we'd not been there in February! We felt 'at home' immediately. The variety of bedroom layouts cater for all tastes and family sizes. The huge kitchen has every appliance and utensil needed, making mealtimes trouble-free. The BBQ was in full use during our stay. The wall of full height folding windows was a godsend in the hot weather! Ideal for families with children of all ages. Two sitting rooms with TVs and DVDs and lots of games for the young at heart. A core group of our large family completed two 1000 piece jigsaws in odd moments of our holiday. We had five cars and had no trouble parking them all off road. Days out included a visit to Llangollen with its canal and stream railway and a trip to Rhaeadr Falls. We recommend eating at The Horse and Jockey at the end of the lane and The Dog and Bull in Coton.

Garden is lovely and very big but some sun longers would be nice and definitely a sun umbrella. We constructed one from the washing line and blankets. We were very noisy outside on the first night and had a complaint from the neighbour. Sincere apologies, we didn't realise we had a neighbour.

  • "Stayed at Top House with my extended family of 8 adults and 2 children over Whit week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

The kitchen leading out onto the garden was beautiful and the full width sliding patio doors spent most of the time fully open, which allowed us to access the extensive garden with ease. This was helped by the excellent weather we enjoyed for the full week, bar a couple of thunder storms (which were great to watch with the doors open). The only thing that could possibly improve this space would be some comfy chairs or a sofa, but that is just knit picking with a great room. The bedrooms were comfortable and clean and allowed the different members of our party to retreat to quiet area when needed. One bed did have a squeak but this was quickly remedied with a spanner. The bathrooms were also clean and practical, with fantastic showers that were nice and hot and very powerful (which is a bug bear of mine on holidays when you get a rubbish shower). The living room was hardly used due to the wonderful kitchen but when used was comfortable and spacious. The exterior was well maintained and the garden was another area which we used often. There was ample parking for our four cars and could probably accommodate another couple of vehicles. The entrance to the drive was a little tricky to get out of due to poor visibility and some other inconsiderate drivers who seemed to drive the narrow back lane at inappropriate speeds, but was fine if taken with care. Overall I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to get away with a large group, it's spacious, comfortable and set in peaceful grounds.

Setting is idyllic, out in the countryside overlooking fields and not overlooked by anybody, quiet and peaceful ideal for just sitting on the patio and chilling out in the evening sun after a hard days sightseeing. One point to note that you do need transport to stay here as to the location of the property and the nearest shops being approx 3.5 miles away in Wem.

The kitchen was extremely well equipped with appliances you would not expect to find in a holiday home. All bathrooms and showering facilities were good with good water pressure for the amount of potentially showering at the same time (a good shower is important!). The property was well maintained with both window cleaners and grass cutting taking place during our stay with no intrusion to our stay. We have all agreed we would love to return as it was the perfect spot for us to continue exploring Shropshire, a beautiful county with so much we didn't see.

Plenty of snow fell over the weekend and kids had a great time in the fab garden making snowmen and having snowball fights.
