  • "Although not promoted as a disabled friendly property, I decided to book it anyway because it looked eminently suitable for my needs."

It is a delightful house with very comfortable seating everywhere and very well equipped in the kitchen and utility room. The sea views through the picture windows from the two double bedrooms are stunning, especially at sunrise and sunset. However the climb from middle floor to the top floor en-suite is not suitable for the infirm. Everywhere is very clean (except the dust and cobwebs found behind the chest of drawers when pushing the the two singles together to create a third double) Also, the back garden was disappointing in that it could be a very pleasant sitting area but everything was overgrown, making access difficult and annoying. Despite the negative points, I do recommend this property for its comfort and proximity to the beach and promenade.

Thank you for your constructive comments. The garden is untidy and once the season is over the overgrown shrubs will be cut back. Property Owner

  • "We all felt that the kitchen was well equipped for cooking etc, and nice to have a dish washer, the rooms were fine and had everything we needed, however the whole place could do with a really deep clean, the fridge, drawers, rug in the front room, ledges, skirting boards, floors, under the beds etc."

were all dirty, and the whole place looks dated, such a shame really as the place has so much potential. We were also very disappointed at the state of the garden or should I call it "the jungle" it wasn't fit for use at all, again a real shame. We all felt that due to these problems it was overpriced.

Thank you for your review. The first part was most complimentary and then came the sting in the tail. Neither ourselves nor Sykes received any complaints from you during your stay and Mr Hurle even met you on your day of departure, It therefore came as a shock to receive this review. On your arrival I invited you to look around to check that Morfin was suitable accommodation for your party of three, one of whom had mobility issues. Your reply of “I’m going nowhere”led me to believe that you were happy to stay, although you were a little peeved at having to park 50 yards away . It was August Bank Holiday and no spaces nearer. Your comments about cleanliness are outrageous. Having had a complaint about dust on the dado rail several years ago , I now take photos of sections of the house about an hour before guests are due to arrive.I have photos of the rug, flooring, sink, basin, bath…taken on August 25th at 15.15. No dust to be seen. In order to look under the beds you would need to crawl on hands and knees for one bed and you would need to move the others as they are divans. I know the weather that week was poor , but did you not have anything better to do during your holiday than hunting for dust?As for value for money, the price is set by Sykes.August is prime holiday time. Your comment re the garden being a jungle is in the realms of hyperbole. The garden is untidy but usable. There are two seating areas for reading relaxing, eating and drinking and space for drying your washing. If you wanted more space for football, tennis, barbecues etc then I suggest using the beach a mere minutes walk away.I sympathise that the weather was bad and that Morfin was not to your liking. Perhaps you should have let us know immediately? You had ample time when you arrived, during your week and when you met Mr Hurle on day of departure. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic property, great location, lovely owners!"

We really enjoyed our stay at Morfin, loved the central location and views, the kids loved being on the beach and we enjoyed exploring the area (and taste testing all the cakes in the cafes). The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen is well stocked, and the little garden is such a sweet addition to the holiday. We had plenty of room for all of us (6) to sit comfortably and enjoy some family time. The house is well stocked with some great books, movies, and has really good WiFi coverage. There are some amazing days out in the area for the kids and we enjoyed a trip to Zip World, lots of castles, and beaches. Highly recommend Morfin; thank you for giving us a great location to make some amazing family memories.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. We also appreciated your letter and the need for a larger frying pan. Constructive comments are always welcome. Property Owner

Great location, garden unkempt, cleanliness poor, bedding worn out, overall poor level of decoration, I'm sure that it would not take much to bring up to scratch but the rating of 4star at present is not warranted

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. What a pity you did not alert us immediately to the defects of Morfin. Thank you for leaving a disgusting mess in the outside food waste bin . There are biodegradable bags into which food waste should be placed before going into the outside bin. Instructions for waste disposal are clearly stated in the information folder. Thank you for allowing your dogs upstairs, and I suspect on the beds, as I found a multitude of dog hairs on the bedding. Thank you for putting an uncovered duvet and a covered duvet in the bath with the damp towels. The bedding is almost new and I have taken photos of all bedding used during your stay for future reference should you wish to take your complaint further. I agree the garden is untidy , the main reason being that July was a very wet month. As for the comment about 4 stars. These are calculated from the marks awarded from guests . Your very low mark seems at odds with the majority of our guests and has a hint of malice. Property Owner

  • "The house was just lovely and exactly as described."

The little welcome pack of supplies was a lovely touch and gratefully received. The beds were very comfortable and the living area was great. The kitchen was a little narrow for more than one person at a time but that wasn’t a major problem. We could have done with a bigger fridge with five of us there for five days but we managed. The location of the house was excellent with stunning views of the beach and an easy walk down there in the morning. Lovely property all round and we had an excellent stay.

Thank you so much for your positive feedback. Yes the kitchen is narrow and the space for a large fridge is not available ,but as you note , it is manageable. I hope the weather was kind to you and that you were tempted to try both the Cariad gelato and Cadwaladers ice cream. Property Owner

Although no dedicated parking this was not a problem as nearby ‘on street ‘ parking was always available ( this might be different at a busier time ).

Thank you for taking time to review Morfin. Your kind words, however, belie the marks given for accuracy of listing, cleanliness and comfort. Sykes/ Menai are responsible for the listing. In what way are they inaccurate? As for cleanliness it would be helpful to know exactly what was unclean in order for us to put it right. Property Owner

The owners are very attentive and friendly. We hadn't realised that steep stairs and no downstairs loo would be tricky for us older ones! Also we had to overflow into another bedroom because the double bed was not king size, but it was fantastic to be in Criccieth again after many decades and find very little has changed.

Thank you for your feedback. Sorry about the steep stairs and lack of WC on the ground floor. Mr Hurle did offer to find you alternative accommodation . He gave you ample time to see the double bed, steep stairs and lack of downstairs W.C. On his return to check that you were happy with the accommodation you answered in the affirmative. The owners were we're responsive, helpful and friendly. We had everything we needed and where able to use the heating when required when the weather became a little chilly in the evening. Criccieth is a great place with lovely beach walk, ice-cream, fish and chips and Dylans boardwalk on a sunny day is so lovely. The top floor carpet and bed coverings had some large dog hairs and could benefit from a good hoovering but we appreciate that this is a dog friendly house. This didn't detract from our holiday at all. It's just a housekeeping comment and easily addressed. Thanks for our stay, we had such a lovely time and would recommend Morfin.

The living room is particularly attractive and cosy, and all the bedrooms are very comfortable with good quality mattresses. The top room has magnificent views over sea and mountains, and is fitted out to a wonderfully high spec, including its wet room ensuite. The kitchen is well equipped and cheerful. As a dog owner I did wonder before the holiday where I could find a grassy place for my dog, but was happy to find a grassy alleyway at the end of the garden which my dog was happy to use. The house is ideally located for getting to the beach and the castle, and there was a really good vegan cafe just a few steps away, plus an excellent fish and chip shop. It's well situated too for visiting the Lleyn Peninsula, Snowdonia and the Rhinogs. We would love to return. The house has such a lovely welcoming feel!

Thank you so much for your lovely comments. It helped keep my anxieties at bay and be confident I would get to the holiday in the end. We loved the house, the top room is a bit hot so the fan in there was very helpful. The back bedroom disappointed our daughter intitially because she said it was like a grandma bedroom. It’s the one room that would benefit an upgrade. Although she grew to love it so not sure it’s urgent. The owners were really helpful and especially kind as I walked off with their keys. The property

Morfin is a very comfy holiday house, with gorgeous views towards Moel y Gest.

Once the home of former Prime Minister David Lloyd George, who lived at Morfin from the age of 16 for ten years.

As a solicitor he had his first office in what is now the dining room! Enjoy the views of the sea and Moel y Gest from the bay window in the relaxed sitting room, where you will find comfy chairs, plenty of books and a good selection of CDs, and a TV with DVD player. The sitting room opens into the dining room with a glass topped table and chairs, and French windows open into the small but sweet garden. There is a step up to the long galley kitchen with electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge with ice box and microwave.

Next door the utility room has a washing machine and dishwasher and a door out to the garden. There are three bedrooms, all with a small TV.

The double room has lovely calm colours and the most wonderful view across the bay to Moel y Gest and the hills beyond.

The twin room has 2'6" beds which are suitable for children. The comfy little chair on the landing is just the place to sit and daydream, or spend an hour or two reading some of the interesting collection books on David Lloyd George, the only Welsh Prime Minister and 1st Earl of Dwyfor! There are two steps down to the bathroom with bath, separate shower, loo and wash hand basin. Go upstairs again to another lovely double bedroom, with even more magnificent views.

Tucked away is a very neat little wet room with loo and wash hand basin. Outside, there is a small pretty terraced garden with table and chairs.

Although the garden is enclosed, it isn't dog proof and young children should also be supervised.

Within a short walk from Morfin you can enjoy Criccieth's interesting individual shops, galleries, good restaurants and cafes.

One of the best fish and chip shops in North Wales is just up the road, as is the famous Cadwalader's Ice Cream shop. Morfin is peaceful, calm and relaxing, with soft colours and interesting bits and bobs.

I love the lamp in the dining room and the David Lloyd George corner on the landing where you can sit and admire the view or quietly read a book. A comfy house in a delightful Victorian seaside town.
