“The Haylfot was an incredible experience for my friends and I.”

The cottage itself was so beautiful and homey, it was also clean and had everything we needed (including BBQ tools!). We also loved all the facilities offered, including the hot tub, tennis court and pool. The host lived nearby so we also had easy access to him incase we needed any help. It was the perfect getaway and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

“Simon, the owner?”

was excellent. Very helpful and he or I fixed most of the problems that arose between us. That said, whilst the cottage was lovely, in a nice area it is starting to look like it needs a good bout of maintenance. The fridge door was broken although if you lifted it up you could still close it so it still worked. The whirlpool bath did not work but the two main showers were excellent. The floor tiles in the lower bathroom needed grouting, The hot tub was hot for the first couple of days but by the fourth day it was too cold to stay in for more than 15 mins so we did not use it again.The kitchen utensils and cutlery was a mixed bag and could do with an update. More space needed around the kitchen table so I would suggest maybe moving the dresser which I doubt anyone ever uses. The sofas in the living area are very low and are looking a bit shabby and could do with replacing. Difficult to eat from the coffee table as seats so low. This cottage is probably more suited to a large group of younger people than to older people. Oh...should mention the very steep slope up to the parking area. An older car would probably struggle to get up and down. Chris

The owners are very helpful and thoughtful. The property is well stocked with kitchen equipment and everything you need. I would say that it could do with a bit of TLC. Missing part of a shower door, missing handles on furniture, dead lightbulbs etc but it didn't detract from the lovely atmosphere!

“Cottage and facilities very tired definitley not Luxury as advertised.”

Trouble with Hot tub every day. Called owner with list of issues first day and consecutive days, granted he tried to put right but mainly due to refurbishment required to the property and its furnishings. Property situated in stunning scenery ,walks etc. Shame the Hayloft did not live upto the advertised description.

“Great time”

Book this place for my sister's 30th and it was great, the owner couldn't do more for us, lovely place to stay, the pool was great, so we left some extra toys there. My family had the best weekend and my sister had a 30th to remember. The hot tube was so much fun. Would defo stay there again

I have been on holidays before where we have encountered similar problems but this time Simon sorted it very quickly which was great. The shared pool is great too, overall the Hayloft is a great property with great facilities made even better by excellent customer service.

“Facilities a bit worn out!”

Pool was too cold to get in a loads of lights not working so very dark! House nice but a bit cold so had to have log burner on which is ok if you have enough logs! Front porch leaked and shoes all got soaked. Lovely owner though and very accommodating. We did have a lovely stay over new year and the countryside is beautiful. Visit the aqueduct for walks and chirk castle.

Lovely weekend for lots of special family birthdays. House was lovely, gorgeous log burner and lovely rooms. Hot tub was a complete hit with the kids and plenty of space to chill out in the house. Kids also enjoyed the swimming pool! Only slight negative (and not really a negative) was that the communal facilities (gym, squash, sauna and to some extent the swimming pool) were a bit tired and possibly in need of a refurbishment. However, it was very good value for money and this probably took into account the slightly dated communal facilities.

The shared amenities; the swimming pool, sauna, gym, tennis and squash courts were used daily, and also the hot tub, all were great additions to the cottage. The owner was very helpful on arrival advising regarding local walks and good pubs. Nine of us stayed all week with plenty of room. We will definitely be going again.

“The cottage was much better than we expected.”

The rooms were spacious and comfortable and were adequate for ten people although the fourth bedroom was a little small. The bathrooms were excellent. The kitchen was very well equipped and there was everything we needed for our stay including a dishwasher, washing machine and freezer. The lounge had a wood burner which was much appreciated as the weather wasn't very good. The cottage is well maintained and the owner was very pleasant and helpful. The cottage is so ideally situated for exploring the area and there were several nice restaurants and pubs within a reasonable distance. There are lovely views of Chirk Castle from the cottage and some lovely walks. Easy to get too loads of historical sites. The kids particularly enjoyed the hot tub and the swimming pool. Overall a very enjoyable break.

The property

This detached cottage is situated in the grounds of a small complex of holiday homes in the delightful village of Bronygarth, near to Chirk in Shropshire.

Boasting views of the magnificent Chirk Castle across the valley, this delightful cottage is a wonderful romantic getaway in beautiful Shropshire countryside.

The cottage has four bedrooms each with their own character.

The master bedroom sits on the lower ground floor and contains a sumptuous four poster bed, with a built-in TV and net drapes, which leads to you to a decked seating area; a superb spot for a morning cup of coffee.

Also on this floor is a bedroom that makes very clever use of space by offering a pull-down double bed; just dont expect to be able to walk around it!

On the ground floor is a twin room with a convenient en-suite shower, whilst down a few steps is a family bedroom that sleeps four people and has French doors opening out onto a decked balcony with views of the castle across the valley.

A well-equipped kitchen enables you to cook delicious meals for all the family as they sit around the magnificent dining table, before you retire to the conservatory sitting room to relax in front of the woodburning stove.

Make use of the patio garden with your very own luxury Canadian 8-seater hot tub and gaze across the valley to the historic Chirk Castle.

Chirk Castle is easily accessed, whilst short drives will take you to other notable National Trust properties including Powis Castle and Erddig.

Llangollen is just ten miles away and is well-known for its watersports, steam railway, the Eisteddfod and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a World Heritage Site.

An excellent cottage with fabulous facilities for a wonderful holiday, all year round.

BRONYGARTH

Chirk 2 miles; Oswestry 6 miles; Llangollen 9 miles.

The scattered village of Bronygarth is situated in the Ceiriog Valley and lies on the Offa's Dyke Path, the boundary between England and Wales. Just across the River Ceiriog is the magnificent 14th century Marcher Fortress of Chirk Castle with its award-winning gardens, medieval tower and dungeon. The small border town of Chirk is referred to as "The Gateway to Wales" and offers pubs, restaurants, a village store, gift shop, canal boat marina and an excellent golf course. Ceiriog Valley, known as ' The Valley of Poets' and described by Lloyd George as "a little bit of heaven on earth" offers walks, cycle routes and local trout fishing. The ancient border town of Oswestry boasts restaurants, numerous shops, historic buildings and traditional pubs as well as its well preserved hill top Iron Age fort from where long distant views can be enjoyed. Many historic houses and castles can be visited nearby including Powis Castle, Erddig and Attingham Park. The nine meres of Ellesmere are close by and provide scenic walks, sailing, fishing and boat trips, an abundance of wildlife and great birdwatching opportunities. Further afield are the Welsh Mountains and coast, Lakes Bala and Vyrnwy, medieval Shrewsbury, the Roman walled city of Chester and the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge.
