  • "Property was fantastic home from home everything you need is there thanks to the owners"

  • "The inside of the cottage was very nice, clean, well equipped and comfortable."

It was advertised as having Sky TV. However the owners left a note that the connection was intermittent and provided an alternative password for an Amazon Firestick. There was no Sky connection when we were there, it took ages to log in to Amazon and then the connection kept dropping out. There were no views of the valley from the outside garden space as the vegetation is not managed.

  • "The house was aesthetically pleasing but lacked some basics, eg light bulbs not working in some lights and no spares which for were available."

House was dirty behind some furniture when moved and we didn’t feel that the procedures in place were covid compliant. For example, dirty j cloths were left in the sink when we arrived.

  • "A great (not so) little cottage."

It's an ideal base for exploring the local area and venturing a bit further afield into Snowdonia. The cottage has all the home comforts you would want a few nice extras too. If you want a day relaxing then this is your place, you can hear the Dee flowing in the distance and are surrounded by lots of birds including Jay's and plenty of pheasants. We would return tomorrow if we could.

  • "This is my second stay at Tan Y Bedw Ucha cottage so I knew what to expect really, I thought it would be as clean and comfortable inside as it was on my previous visit about 4 or 5 years ago."

However, the outside does not do the property justice and I thought as I approached it, that it had the appearance of being a bit run down. A large section of the dry stone garden wall was broken down, the house looked like it needed a coat of paint and also the windows needed painting or even better, replaced as they mist up every morning. The detached garage also looked like it needed painting and it had grass/moss growing out of the gutters, plus there was some rubbish and a metal corrugated sheet left in the parking area. I understand the garden is left as a wild garden but when sitting on the very worn garden bench we could just about see the view, the trees/shrubs need to be cut down a bit in order to take full advantage of the glorious views. The property itself is in a lovely wooded area and in a peaceful setting, set quite far back off the main road. It is well positioned for exploring the area which has lots to offer. We had a great week and the weather was brilliant too and although the house needs a bit of TLC to make it look as fabulous on the outside as it is on the inside, I would still recommend the property and I would return again in the future.

The approach to the cottage is extremely hilly which made for some challenging but enjoyable walks! Well located to visit other places of interest in North Wales. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

  • "From the outside the property looked dingy, weather didn’t help, but once inside it was absolutely immaculate,so much so that we have booked it again later this year."

The high winds had damaged the Sky dish for the week but we managed with the Fire stick and our Ipads. All in all an excellent property and highly recommend it.

  • "The cottage is beautifully appointed and in a lovely situation in the woods with gorgeous views of the valley."

I would give it five stars if it was not for the uncomfortable settee, as stated before it is large, very saggy and with no back support. Perhaps it is because I am a 69 year old lady! My husband [a retired chef] also struggled with operation of the hob! But other than that a lovely place to stay.

  • "The cottage is in a fantastic location but it is about a mile from the main road up a very steep and narrow hill."

The facilities within the cottage are good but I had difficulty working out how the induction hob on the electric cooker worked. The settee in the lounge, while very large, is not very comfortable and has little back support. However the view from the lounge window is lovely and you can hear the steam train as it draws into Berwyn Station. The kitchen is very well equipped and the bathroom is spacious and luxurious.

It’s spacious, clean, and has been modernised really tastefully. It’s a mile or so in to town, but the cottage is close to some good hotel restaurants, some nice places in town too. Just far enough out to be peaceful, walking on your doorstep; but you can walk/drive in to town really easily if you need some bustle!

The lounge window gives a splendid view down the valley and to the surrounding hills. Outdoor areas are paved, and there is seating for warm evenings. Warm and well insulated, this house can be enjoyed all year. The owners are easily contacted and helpful in case of problems or enquiries.

The kitchen and lounge diner are really large and very spacious for 4 adults. The place is naturally cool but also warms up really quickly and retains the warmth. All of the facilities work really weell, such as washing machine and drier and having 2 looks is so handy for 4 adults. The surrounding landscape is so relaxing and plenty of lovely walks. I would certainly stay again and would recommend. The owner generously left milk, teabags, Welsh cakes and a lovely bottle of wine as welcome such a thoughtful touch.

  • "Apart from the postcode not exactly matching the location, we did eventually reach the destination from the listed instructions."

Cottage was close to two other properties but not too close. The location was peaceful and beautiful. We had a sheep knocking at the door one day and found a bat (still alive) in the log burner another day. This property is beautifully presented. The only down side would be the dip in the road between the parking area and the main road, especially if your vehicle is quite low. Whatever you do, walk down the hill towards the A5, keep your eyes to the left, look for the Chain Bridge Hotel, have a drink there, then take the walk into Llangollen along the canal. A beautiful part of the world.

  • "We would return tomorrow to this lovely cottage , in fact we didn’t want to leave and would have stayed another week if it hadn’t already been booked."

We really enjoyed the peace, tranquility and views from the property away from the hustle and bustle of Llangollen. It was surrounded by trees and wildlife, a real haven of peace. It was within walking distance of two lovely hotels where we had good bar snacks in the evening as long as you didn’t mind the walk uphill on the way back! Both hotels had stunning views from the terrace. We couldn’t fault the cleanliness and facilities inside the cottage. The only slight downside was the parking which was a little further up the road ( but the owners left us the keys for the garage to accommodate our bikes.) We had some great bike rides from the door but where pleased we had electric bikes for the return journey uphill. Both the area and the cottage are so beautiful we can’t wait to return. Thank you again for everything and also for the bottle of wine and welsh cakes so kindly left for us.

  • "What a delightful cottage."

So well equipped and beautifully decorated, it is a credit to the owners, they have obviously put a lot of thought and effort in to every detail. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we will certainly look to stay again and use Sykes Holiday Cottages. Only tiny downside is the parking, as its quite difficult not to scratch the bottom of your car on the way up and down but it's a really, really miniscule downside on what was a truly great find. Highly recommend.

The location was fabulous, really tucked away from the main roads but well within walking distance of Llangollen. • "Really lovely cottage in a very peaceful and quiet area, with pretty much no passing traffic."

Nice views across the valley. The cottage is very clean and comfortable with excellent facilities and having Netflix and an Amazon Fire stick was great. Owners provided a welcome in the form of a nice bottle of wine and some Thomas the Tank Engine themed cakes, which our girls loved (especially as the next day we went to see the trains themselves at Llangollen railway!). Beds were comfortable which is a change for a holiday cottage. Only two minor downsides, one was that we couldn't locate the lockable bike storage (no access to garage), as we had three bikes with us, but they were safe in a small shed, and secondly was that the lovely kitchen had a basic set of crockery and cooking utensils, which as we like to cook a lot was a little limiting, but we managed ok. Otherwise, we very much enjoyed our week and would love to stay again!
