Susan provided a marvellous welcome and a delicious home-made cake! The cottage is clean, comfortable, stacked with every good-quality convenience & many thoughtful touches, & easily accommodated our family of 5 adults. It's a real home from home, with much better views. The garden is lovely with heated seating areas. It is peaceful & picturesque, with stunning country walks right from the front gate, and many local attractions a short drive away, (Chirk Castle is worth a visit.) My (adult) son bought a kite & flew it on the hillside with bemused sheep looking on! I can't recommend this cottage highly enough & we hope to return.

On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the host and provided with a lovely tray of treats. Added to this a freshly baked lemon cake was delivered a couple of days into our stay - wow, we all agreed it was the best we’d ever tasted! The cottage is very old but well furnished, beautifully kept and warm. As for equipment provided it ticked every box. The surrounding area is fantastic for both sightseeing and walking and the host is a mine of useful information. Walking directly from the cottage we were able to walk Offa’s Dyke and to Chirk Castle. We also visited Ellesmere, Powis Castle and Llangollen - all a short drive away. Hopefully we will get an opportunity to return.

There was so much space. The garden is fabulous. It's just a shame the weather wasn't better. The cottage is so well looked after and cared for by Susan who did everything to make us feel welcome. We had a bottle of wine and milk and other goodies when we arrived. She brought us her delicious lemon drizzle cake which she is now famous for! I had brought dish washer tablets, bin bags etc with me but they were all provided. A proper home from home. My favourite part of the cottage was the walk-n wardrobe which I wasn't expecting. There is so much to do in the area. You can walk into Chirk which has a few pubs and restaurants. There are nice walks along the canal. We managed to walk to Pontcysyllte Aqueduct which I highly recommend. There's a pub in Weston Rhyn which is walk-able and does a lovely Sunday lunch and has a large TV screen and a new pool table. You are well placed for Shrewsbury and Chester. I hope to return to Penymaes one day and have recommended it to all my friends.

four of us just spent 7 days at Penymaas to celebrate New Year (very good value considering the time of year, worked out at just a tad over £25 per person, per night. You couldn't get B&B for that, and we had the whole cottage, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a superb Kitchen/diner, very comfortable lounge with huge wood burner that kept the whole cottage very warm and cosy, there is also a laundry room/utility and a boot room to get out of your muddy things before entering the cottage to the kitchen, downstairs bedroom or lounge) Owner lives just behind the cottage but trees and shrubs make sure you are not overlooked and your privacy is assured. Susan (the owner) is very friendly and could not have been more attentive to anything we required, and it has to be said, she is the finest baker of cakes and mince pies in all of Shropshire. Outside, the garden is beautifully maintained with patio heater and possible seating for 22, yes, 22 people, you could hold your own garden party here overlooking the valley towards Chirk and beyond into Wales. Western Rhyn is within 10 minutes walk, with shop and choice of Pubs, recommended is The Plough, a little further to walk in the village but worth it, Landlord extremely friendly to visitors, will meet you wearing a big smile and a bow tie. If Shropshire is on one of your places to visit then do, do consider this cottage, you will not be disappointed. Oh, forgot to mention, the owner of Penymaas also owns another property on the aqueduct over the river Dee which is at 3 to 4 miles, a good walk or a short drive. Not to be missed if you're in the area. This cottage is 5 star plus.
