Very comfortable and well equipped. The smoke alarm in the kitchen is super-sensitive!! Had to put the extractor fan on just to make toast! Better safe than sorry though.

We have since updated the alarm system in line with the latest requirements for holiday lets and have replaced the old single alarms with a linked system throughout the cottage including a heat alarm in the kitchen instead of the smoke alarm…so hopefully less noisy toast! "Fabulous property with great comfort and spacious living."
The dining chairs look really cool but rather flimsy and uncomfortable to sit on. They obviously have been repaired many times before and unfortunately the back of one broke off as it was being sat upon. We had a fabulous holiday and will definitely be looking to go back in the future.
Thank you for taking the time to feedback as every comment is useful to us. We have since replaced the dining chairs with some more robust kitchen-style ones. Also we have fitted mattress toppers to the double beds to improve comfort without impairing good posture support. Property Owner

"The cottage is in a great position close to the centre."
It is a lovely old cottage and the kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. The only down side for us was the size of the double bed and the mattress was very hard to sleep on. The biscuits and cakes were a nice welcome gift. Thankyou.

"We spent a week in this cottage (it was the first time in Wales for my French parents) with my children and my niece."
We were pleasantly surprised upon arrival as the property is so ideally located next to the harbour and all the amenities. I really can't fault the property, it was cosy, comfortable, clean, nothing was missing, it felt like being home. The nearest beach is a 25 minute walk away. Everything you need is accessible by foot. I would definitely recommend this cottage as I was very impressed with the high standards and I'm looking forward to come back someday.

"First time, I booked a holiday cottage without reading other customer reviews."
So when I got back home, I promised to write one, so that others can benefit. Purely based on property photos and description provided on the sykes website, I booked it. The cottage looks and feels 100% like the photos and description on the website. Lovely old slate cottage from the outside with traditional interiors inside. It was very clean, cosy, comfortable and very functional (modern). It is maintained to a very high standard and the owners have done a fantastic job of furnishing it and their attention to detail was amazing. You cannot beat the location, it is just behind the Porthmadog harbour, the heritage train station and walking (5 mins) distance to a number of pubs/eating places and the town center for super markets (Tesco, Aldi, Lidl). We reached the place in the middle of the night and got lost due to following the sat nav only. I suggest you follow the Sat nav instruction to a point, after that pls follow the instruction provided by the property owner, you would make it easily. We spent a week here and explored the North Wales and Snowdonia national park, drove to most places and spent the day outside, but we very much looked forward to coming back to the cosy cottage to spend our evenings in the warm lounge, rest in the cosy bed in the night and wake up to a hot power shower in the morning, We felt home away from home !!! I highly recommend this place for families visiting Wales.

The property
A delightful Listed Building of historic character, Cwrt Yr Harbwr is a row of private holiday cottages created from the original quayside warehouse that served the 19th century export of Welsh slate around the globe․ Number One is the end cottage with its own secluded patio and small garden, bordered by fruit trees and a slate wall, with parking adjacent to the property․ From here it is a short walk to all the shops and amenities on Porthmadog’s High Street including giftware, household and fashion goods, bookshop, beach shops, as well as a range of interesting cafés, takeaways, restaurants and pubs․ Three major supermarkets are just a few minutes’ drive away meaning everything you could possibly need is within easy reach of Number One.
As the name suggests, Cwrt Yr Harbwr is right next to the harbour with its slate quaysides – perfect for crabbing when the tide is in – bustling boats and the estuary beyond․ Across the harbour bridge and just a short walk away, the world-famous narrow-gauge heritage railway, Rheilffordd Ffestiniog, offers spectacular trips into the Eryri (Snowdonian) mountains around Blaenau, whilst its sister company, the Welsh Highland Railway, operates trains from the same station via the pretty riverside village of Beddgelert to Caernarfon.
A slightly longer walk through the boatyards along the estuary, takes in the award-winning waterside village of Borth-y-Gest, nestling in its own sheltered bay where a sunlit bench, morning coffee or evening drink and meal can be enjoyed whilst looking back across the estuary to the spectacular backdrop of Snowdonia․ For the more adventurous walker, the coastal path continues through a series of pretty coves and beaches accessible at low tide, ending in the great sweep of sand and dunes at Black Rock Sands․ A trip by car in the other direction brings the visitor to the world heritage site of Portmeirion, the stunning Italianate waterside village with its unusual architecture and beautiful gardens․ The historian – junior or older – will enjoy easy access to the castles at Criccieth, Harlech and Caernarfon, as well as a plethora of ancient monuments and industrial heritage sites.
Number One is a short car or bus journey from some of the UK’s finest walking and climbing, with routes for every ability, from the stunning riverside walk along the Aberglaslyn Pass – don’t miss the prize-winning ice cream parlour, Glaslyn Ices, at Beddgelert – to the great ranges surrounding Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), the Glyderau, the Carneddau, the Rhinogs, including one of the finest high-level walks in Britain, the Nantlle Ridge.
Summer or winter, the National Park is an awesome landscape that continues to lure visitors back, time and time again.
Whether it’s a day on the beach, in the mountains, along the coastal path or just simply taking in the crowds on the harbourside, Number One is a welcome retreat for a holiday in North Wales․ The accommodation enjoys a good-sized lounge with log burner, smart TV and a dining area adjacent to the kitchen, equipped with electric fan oven and grill, four-ring hob, microwave, dishwasher, coffee machine, fridge-freezer and a range of crockery and utensils sufficient to rustle up a small feast or just a quick snack․ A washer/drier machine and courtyard drying line provides laundry facilities for guests to use․ Upstairs, two double bedrooms and a twin bunk room provide sleeping accommodation for up to six adults․ The main bathroom has a shower, washbasin and WC whilst a further separate closet contains a small handbasin and WC․ The property is served by a gas boiler for central heating and instant hot water.

The bustling harbour town of Porthmadog lies on the Glaslyn Estuary and enjoys a stunning setting. The gateway to the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, Porthmadog is full of individual shops and restaurants, and home to the Ffestiniog Railway and the Welsh Highland railway where you can travel by steam through spectacular Snowdonia scenery, to Blaenau Ffestiniog or Caerforn . The pretty village of Borth Y Gest, with its cliffs and coves, is a short walk or drive from the town. The well known and unique Italianate village of Portmeirion is just down the coast. Situated on a rugged clifftop on its own private peninsula, Portmeirion, famous as the location of the TV show The Prisoner and the final episode of Cold Feet, is surrounded by miles of sandy beaches and woodlands.
