  • "The cottage is in an excellent location in the village and we really like Porthmadog."

The cottage was clean, warm and reasonably well equipped. The beds were wonderfully comfy and the sofas were fine too. The allocated parking spot was a bonus. We like to go out cycling for the day and then cook our own meals in the evenings, but we just found that there was hardly any cupboard space for our own food and very little work surface available on which to prepare meals. If we had been eating out more often it wouldn't have been such a problem for us. Our only criticism was the inadequacy of the shower, or mostly the fact that the shower head was so low on the wall. With two of our group being over 6ft tall they had to bend almost double to get under the shower and it just wasn't practical or comfortable. So Taliesin provides quite acceptable accommodation for shorter people who like to eat out, and the price in the week before Easter made it excellent value, but I'd have to say that it wasn't ideal for us. Cath

Thank you for the feedback. The shower head is fixed to the wall and the ceiling height I'm afraid is the limiting factor but with respect saying "bent double", writing as I am as someone who is 6'2" is I think a little unfair! As to the storage space I have to balance the range of equipment from rolling pins to cake tins, plates, glasses, cups/mugs cafetière, etc but if more cupboard space is required such equipment can always be put on top of the kitchen cupboards during a stay. The work surface has to accommodate the microwave, toaster ,sink, drainer, 4 ring gas hob, kettle etc so inevitably space will be reduced but bear in mind it is after all a two bed flat which, as you say, was excellent value. The position was absolutely perfect for us with the Harbour and Heritage Railway Station almost on the doorstep. It provided everything we needed and I would thoroughly recommend it. Shops and restaurants are so close at hand and we only used the car once as we could walk or get buses to many places. A visit to Portmeirion was one of our highlights it is simply magical. I hope to return to Taliesin in the future.

We stayed just 2 nights off season, for which we paid £317, and felt that overall this did not represent good value for money.

Thank you for the feedback. The letting rates are set by the market in truth but for your information the cleaning and laundry costs I incur are circa £80 per stay, I have to pay fees to Sykes as my agent, the energy costs (heat and light is unrestricted) have gone through the roof and I have all the normal compliance issues to meet eg gas safety check/PAT testing /Insurance etc plus of the inevitable general wear eg new furniture has to be paid for to maintain the standard of the property that everyone rightly expects. I could cut costs by cutting corners but I have always aimed to provide a high quality experience and look after the property as well as I possibly can. Property Owner

  • "It was in a very convenient and pleasant location in the town, only a couple of minutes walk to the narrow gauge railway station."

Liked the parking behind locked gates. It was very comfortable and well equipped. We had an enjoyable stay. The only issue was the weight of the venetian blind at the patio doors. It was very heavy to pull up, my wife couldn't, and I found it a bit of a pull. I would suggest that it is changed to either a aluminium or plastic one or a vertical louvre blind. That would make it easier to use the patio doors in warm weather, which we had and enjoyed.

The property is smart, clean and has great modern feel to a very traditional building. The owner, Iain, was brilliant, even helped us find/supplied our own copies of some of the pictures in the flat. We're regular visitors to Porthmadog and I dare this will be our regular base for the future, for as long as they'll have us :-)

  • "We really enjoyed staying here, right near the harbour and cafes pubs etc, which was good for us as we weren’t too mobile."

Unfortunately I had a fractured wrist and ankle, and my partners back wasn't too good either, but we decided to go ahead with the holiday. It was very helpful to me that the bath and shower had handgrips. although the showerscreen seemed to be in an awkward place if you just wanted to run a bath you had to lean round it which was difficult, or move it. The shower was good. We found the sprung doors in the apartment a bit annoying as they had to be kept open with doorstops, or they kept closing. The bedrooms could have done with thicker curtains to keep the light out. The patio doors in the lounge could have done with vertical blinds, as the horizontal blinds were a bit heavy to pull up, and when you opened the doors, if you are tall you hit your head on them as you stepped onto the patio. we had some good weather and were able to sit out on the patio which was nice with the view toward the harbour. The apartment was really well equipped, and we felt very much at home, and the bed was comfortable, but not too soft. The sofas were comfortable. The apartment was wide enough for wheelchair access. It was good to have sky and netflix. Despite the niggly things mentioned above, we loved the location, and we hope to visit again when we are both more mobile, so we can do walks, and visit other places in the area, and do train trips etc. We would recommend staying here.

Hello The doors are fire doors which is why they are sprung for fire safety reasons I’m afraid. The glass panel the shower is hinged so it does move to the right to give easier access to the controls but it does rest on the bath top as it’s seals against the bath so it’s slightly difficult to move. The problem with vertical blinds is it was found is they have been chewed by pets! Property Owner

I guess in mid February in one of the wettest winters for a long time the town didn't look its best and the tourist attractions e.g. railways are always shut in winter but glad the accommodation was as described. In fairness having been through a two year pandemic with the very strict Welsh lock-down, Porthmadog High Street has fared better than many towns in England of my experience, with few retail closures. It's in a lovely location, right by the harbour and near to shops/pubs/cafes etc. The on-site parking is very handy as I suspect it might be an issue to find a parking space in the town otherwise. Would recommend Taliesin to anyone looking for a base in Porthmadog. The only issue we had was that both bedroom windows are next to street lights outside and as the windows only have venetian blinds, the bedrooms were very light throughout the night, so we didn't get as much sleep as we would have liked.

Comfy bed, plenty of hot water, good shower and large bathroom. Nicely furnished. One thing that would be nice is a feedback folder in the apartment. We have used these in the past at other properties to share the holiday experience. Situated near the harbour station, this was a great base for steam trains to Caernavon and Blaenau Ffestiniog. We parked the car ( nice to have dedicated parking space off street), used the coastal rail line to Tywyn ( for the Talyllyn steam trains and Dolgoch falls), used the bus and train for Pwllheli, the bus for Criccieth ( great views, dolphins and excellent morning tea at Tir Mor). Easy walking distance to the library, the swimming pool, Cob, around Llyn Bach, Moel-y-Gest, or just to Borth-y-Gest ( and the great Sea View cafe). We loved having such a great bakery ( Big Rock) and a real greengrocer (Pritchard's). Portmadog still has a real High Street and plenty of bus stops for exploring the area. We said that Sykes met our expectations rather than exceeded -- that's because the firm is so reliable and the standards are so high, we have never been disappointed. Liz and Ron
