  • "Our host is a smashing fella, gave us a couple of great recommendations."

It’s a great location to explore all the NW of Wales. As you can see we scored a little down on facilities and maintenance, generally it’s a little ‘tired’ and in need of a birthday. A bit short on the cooking pots and pans, to be fair we were able to borrow a large saucepan. Don’t be put off however, it’s a great spot.

  • "We had a lovely 5 night stay in Rose Cottage."

It is in such a great location and extremely peaceful, apart from the very loud dawn chorus in the early hours. We stayed on the ground floor because we felt the steps, which we would have described more as a ladder, to the bedrooms upstairs would not have been safe for us, but the downstairs accommodation was more than adequate and very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped for our needs, and an issue with the oven was noted by the staff on the day we left. The log fire and surrounds were a great feature and made for some cosy nights. We would definitely return. Excellent value for money

  • "Rose Cottage is situated in a beautiful setting."

The grounds are stunning. Jon (owner) and Louise (manager) were very friendly and helpful. The cottage was very warm, and wood burner was an added bonus. It was well kitted out, and we didn't want for anything. The stairs are very steep but there are two downstairs bedroom, so that wasn't a problem. We would definitely return, and recommend it.

  • "7 days from 18/11/23."

Some trepidation having read previous feedbacks. We found Rose Cottage to be very clean, tidy, smelling good and wecoming. Concerning previous comments - Bathroom radiator fixed / en-suite fixed / toilets flush properly / both showers work well (hot is very hot) / all electrics working & in good order / mattress toppers present so beds very comfortable / no damp or mould found anywhere at all. We are experienced holiday renters and this property is very very good in all aspects. All staff very helpful. We are returning in November 2024

  • "Stayed last year and sadly the same complaints."

Radiator in bathroom not working. Basin in en suite hanging off the wall and toilet not flushing. Electrics kept tripping, to the point it’s quite dangerous. The sockets upstairs appear to be wired off the lights, as plugging stuff in blew the lights not the socket circuit. Dogs in a cage outside barking all night every night. If you look at the other cottages owned on this site this is also mentioned. Damp up the walls. Shower in main bathroom still not working correctly despite previous complaints. If it wasn’t for location for work I wouldn’t book this cottage at all. Sykes will call, give you a sympathetic ear but do nothing, I made these complaints last year to them to prevent holiday makers wasting money (this time they didn’t bother calling)

Dear Lee, Thank you for your comments regarding Rose Cottage, Menai holidays have been over to do a property inspection after your stay and feedback. Menai cottages found the property to be very clean and tidy with no damp or mold on any of the walls but understand that the owner has had some works done after your stay. The owner has taken your feedback on board and has already rectified most of the issues mentioned which could easily have been resolved if you had had been upfront and told us when you were there on your 5 separate bookings last year to Rose Cottage. The property has a winter maintenance schedule that is ongoing for further upgrade works over the winter months but unfortunately you won’t be seeing the end results. Property Owner

  • "This cottage is in a beautiful location and is well equipped."

However it is in need of some tlc in respect of decoration and curtains etc . The beds are OK but we needed to use mattress toppers which we brought with us after reading the previous reviews as springs are visible on the mattresses of some of the beds. Linen was lovely and clean and all.in all we had a lovely weekend here . Need to mention that the ladder up to the two single bedrooms is not suitable for small children or older adults it's steep and could be very dangerous . This did not effect us as we are 4 older adults and had the downstairs bedrooms which was fine. We would stay again but would like to see this lovely cottage having a bit of TLC next time !

  • "After reading previous reviews we were very nervous about going to this cottage unfortunately they turned out to be true."

The location is lovely but Rose Cottage has lots of issues. Mainly damp and cleanliness. The smell on entering the cottage is of damp and musty. The 2 bedrooms being the worst. We didn’t unpack but kept our clothes in the suitcases due to the strong smell. The on suite off the bedroom needs all new silicone as it’s gone black. The kitchen is well equipped but it’s little things like the table cloth that needs replacing and work surfaces feel sticky. The carpets and curtains throughout need deep cleaning. The bed linen and towels are really clean but new mattresses are needed. There was no sign of mould on the walls so the owners had dealt with this. This cottage could be beautiful but needs serious money spent. We didn’t stay for the full duration of our holiday.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage - a charming, beautiful setting and a lovely cottage."

The weather was inclement so the cottage did appear dark and damp at times. Unfortunately we did not have Wifi for half of our stay which didn't matter too much to us but I am sure would bother people wanting to remain in connection with the outside world. It was adequately stocked but two toilet rolls for a whole week seemed rather mean! However, overall we loved it - a good, reasonably priced place to explore the whole peninsula and visit Caernarvan, Anglesey and Bangor.

  • "Rose cottage is such a pretty and unique property in a beautiful location."

However, it does need significant work doing to it. The furnishings were, basic and okay and it had good wifi. The kitchen was also well stocked with the basics of what you need. I would not like to be unkind to the owner who was wonderful and helpful, and the problems with the property are well reflected in the price, which is very cheap. So, before going any further, if you are looking for a pretty setting for a cheap price in that area, then Rose cottage is perfect. If however, you want old world charm without compromise or issues, then book somewhere else. Firstly, the place reeked of damp and had mould on the walls in some areas. When we arrived we bought mould cleaner and got scrubbing. We also bought essential oil diffusers to mititgate the smell. This worked well and we then decided we were able to stay there. The property was what you would call 'surface clean', but generally there is old, ingrained grime in the grout and floors and in corners, with lots of spiders and cobwebs. The cleaner we bought did not touch the mould in the ensuite bathroom in the double room, which just needs gutting and starting again. The grout is totally black and the spiders was so large and well established that they could have told us the history of the place. The mattresses on the beds are also very old, and lumpy with springs sticking up in odd places. If you stay there, bring a mattress topper with you. The bed linen itself was spotless and clean, as were the towels. I would not call the place filthy in terms of surface dirt, but it needs some serious TLC and rennovation done to it. The electrics are also possibly a bit dodgy, with the bulb in the kitchen that kept blowing despite us replacing it twice. The open fire in the lounge is lovely and we made use of that with lots of free wood provided. But, as I said, it is very well priced for what it is and all of the above would not put me off from staying again if I wanted to save my pennies. I would just come better prepared.

  • "Further to previous feedback, the radiators in some of the rooms do not work."

There is dampness on the walls in the bedrooms and they smell musty. The shower in the main bathroom goes from freezing cold to scolding with a fraction of movement making it very difficult to control. The shower also leaks onto the floor when in use. There was also a white dog allowed to run around off its lead. We cleaned up several dog messes in the cottage garden.

There have been plug in mobile oil radiators supplied to supplement for the very complicated to use electric Radiators. These are being updated and will be replaced as soon as they arrive. The shower will be attend too and replaced if required. The white dog could belong to a friend of mine staying or the gardener's dog I believe and I can only apologise and say we have never had a problem before and shall make everyone aware. • "Not all radiators work yet."

Oil heater sits in the kitchen and the bathroom heater clicks over and over trying to work. So this part of the house is freezing. Bath leaking, No towels left in main bedroom but this could have just been an oversight. Main bedroom smells really bad of damp, so clothes and bags all smell. The cottage could be perfect if a little more care was shown to it, the grounds are stunning.

  • "Nice cottage, great location."

If all the radiators were working it would have been a perfect stay (3 out of 5 not working) . But to rely on a fire to heat the main part of the house was disappointing. The oil heaters provided didn’t give off much heat so first thing of a morning the living room and kitchen were freezing. Also the radiator in the main bathroom doesn’t work either so that room had zero heat The wood provided for the fire was damp so it didn’t burn well and gave off little heat so you would need to buy your own dry wood for heat. Shame really as the cottage itself is nice

The house is half a mile back from a quiet road and so very peaceful. As a result we all slept very well. On the negative side a few frustrations. Firstly finding the place was hard and there is no number to call. We used Google maps in the end. Secondly there is no obvious plaCe to park. Biggest issue for us is that the TV didn’t work which with 2 kids on a wet Sunday wasn’t good.

) -Mattress in main bedroom is quite hard and lumpy (we used the duvet as a mattress topper to help) We would definitely come back if visiting that part of Wales again - would just bring a mattress topper with us next time!

  • "We booked Rose cottage as a last minute break."

When we arrived the instructions on how to find the cottage were very clear once we worked out that the postcode actually takes you to Glasfryn park and the instructions given then tell you how to find the cottage from the Park. The cottage itself is everything that you would expect from a little cottage in the country and was really cosy and comfortable once the log burner got going. There was only one problem when we arrived and that was with the TV not working. I rang Sykes on the Sunday morning and they contacted the owner who sent one of his staff round straight away to see if they could fix it but unfortunately it was an issue with the sky dish so nothing could be done and we were promised that it would be sorted out for us by the next day. True to his word Jonathan the owner had a TV technician out first thing on Monday and the problem was solved straight away. Our week at the cottage was really lovely and peaceful and we will definitely be booking a return visit. The peace and quiet were wonderful with nothing but the Owls hooting in the woods. The only thing that people coming to the property should be aware of is that the garden is shared with the other 2 cottages which is not made clear until you read the small print at the bottom of the page but this did not detract from our enjoyment at all. The only thing that I would have changed about our stay is the mattresses in both bedrooms as they were uncomfortable and the springs could be felt when you lay down but apart from that everything was magical. As I said before we are definitely going to book to return to Rose cottage in the future and are already looking forward to the next visit.
