• "Family break away over NewYear, the cottage was decorated for Christmas with a tree and lights which was a lovely touch."

  We absolutely loved the log fire, Hot tub and sauna. kitchen had everything we needed, plenty of utensils, crockery, roasting dishes pans etc. All bedrooms were clean and fresh with plenty of storage. Great, safe enclosed garden for our dog to wander around. We didn’t venture out so I can’t comment on nearby places. It was just what we wanted, a relaxing new year break away. We’ve already booked to come back in the summer!

• "This house is absolutely stunning the drive up to it is perfect in every way ."

  However the cottage lacks charm. We were very disappointed of the cleanliness and the overall finish was not of a good standard. No welcome pack or finishing touches which made it feel very unloved and cold. It’s such a shame as this place could be perfect. The bathroom is not ideal for 6 people sharing. It needs a shower that can be used by all guests. We ended using the outdoor electric shower as the water was cold. We spent over £900 on a weekend away and felt really deflated afterwards. I have to say Sykes were amazing and dealt with our concerns in a very professional way. I just wish the owner would up the game for what could be a perfect getaway. The hot tub and sauna are great touches but doesn’t make up for the lack of charm.

• "Positives:Tan Y Bryn was as wonderfully remote as we expected and we had no problems at all with the cattle grids or access."

  One way in, one way out down a farm track. It was a beautiful old RUSTIC house with far reaching views over the sea and this enhanced our experience. Loved the garden and watching the wildlife and the barn owls coming and going. Quality of the bedding was noted and made for a great night's sleep. Hot tub, sauna and smart tv were an added bonus and we had no problems with the WIFI. Kitchen was very well equipped. Loved the idyllic peace and solitude. Grounds around the cottage were well maintained whilst we were there. Owner called in to inform us a cooker knob was being fixed the following day and we had a chat, which we appreciated. Negatives/improvements to be made: A local welcome pack is always a nice touch and needn't cost the earth. Whilst the cleaners may be changing beds and towels, further improvements could be made, regarding further housekeeping checks (cobwebs/spiders in every room. Furniture was missing knobs and sharp screws jutting out. Loose leg on an armchair. Cushions could all do with new pads as they were very flat. Quite a few light bulbs needed replacing and outdoor light on the lawn didn't illuminate. Ensuite shower head wasn't well positioned and this meant that the water ended up splashing all on the floor, which over time will cause damp problems, in an already old, damp building. Gutter above terrace needs reconnecting. Wasp nest in bin shed. Carpets could do with a carpet cleaner, being cream coloured. If all of these things were remedied, the star rating would no doubt go up to a 5 and future renters would have a more positive experience ,for the money. Just a little more money, thought and love could make Tan Y Bryn a truly magical place.

• "Lovely, picturesque place to stay but needs a good clean."

  Cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, other peoples items in freezer and in drawers. The internet was awful and we could barely get a signal. On day three cows were herded into the field and ropes put across the path out of the exit. We had to drive around looking for exits so as not to let the cows out. Once we did come back and the cows were out of the field, a very confrontational farmer came into the cottage asking if we had been driving around. We explained that we could not get out and we’re met with abuse. This has put a complete dampener on our weekend. No instructions or welcome book to explain things. Quite unorganised really. Unsure if we would come back.

  Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you experienced the Wifi signal to be bad- it can sometimes be weak and we are currently installing an upgraded system. The property is cleaned thoroughly on each changeover but thank you for bringing these areas to our attention. The cows graze pasture land between the 2 cattle grids on the approach drive and occasionally a bungy rope is placed across a cattle grid. The cows move and rotate around fields everyday. A note is advertised on the web listing for the property, specifically reminding guests of the importance of closing any gates which they open. This is countryside code. Any gates left open will result in sheep and cows escaping and getting to places that they shouldn't be, understandably this can be frustrating for the neighbouring dairy farmers. Please accept our apologies that the information currently provided within the property was not sufficient. We are in the middle of updating our welcome book / file which includes a map with the 3 miles of walks on estate property. • "Beautiful rural location, the property was ideal for us with 4 teenagers plus two dogs."

  Lovely big bedrooms, very comfy beds, cozy log burning fire and well equipped kitchen with farmhouse style large dining table. Most importantly for us though was the dog proof garden, all fenced in and gated and lovely grounds in which to walk them. Hope to be back soon

• "Beautiful cottage in lovely position."

  Bedding, towels and hot tub spotless, everything else was dirty , filthy in some areas. TV cannot pick up any channels, no outside Aerial. Toilet seat broken, issues reported via Sykes not repaired. Microwave contained forgotten cooked food of previous occupants as did fridge. Dustpan full to overflowing of dirt. Headboard could write name in the muck not dust. We have pictures. Needs professional deep clean. No welcome booklet so had to go through Sykes with issues still awaiting call back from last Wednesday.

• "Character property, spacious with all necessary facilities and nice extras such as sauna and hot tub."

  Very private remote location with large enclosed garden and wonderful views. The kitchen is filled with lots of expected items but at the expense of adequate storage for some food/drink items. The property is in need of some serious upgrading with Sofas uncomfortable and grubby looking. Walls in every room filled with pictures, most of which do nothing to enhance the interior and in fact many look dirty, some show mould damage and are all round very drab looking. Upstairs the carpets are old and in desperate need of replacing, very dirty looking that no hoover could improve. Being in a rural setting you must expect ingress from insects, but I draw the line at spider webs, complete with spider, attached to my bed !! The noise from the upstairs toilet plumbing when flushed is enough to wake the dead ! I have rented several similar properties with Sykes over the last 12 months, and sadly Tan Y Bryn falls well below the standards of the others. A hot tub and sauna do not make up for the issues highlighted above, in my opinion.

  I was a little surprised to read your review as I visited you at the cottage during your stay and no issues at all were raised. That aside, I'm glad that you enjoyed the beautiful view from Tan Y Bryn. We do feel the photos on the website are a true reflection of the cottage (the photos were taken earlier this year) and wouldn't agree it's drab however we do appreciated that not everyone's taste is the same. We consider the rural location to be one of the things that makes Tan Y Bryn such a charming place to spend a holiday. Property Owner
