  • "My husband, myself and our miniature labradoodle have just returned from a week at Moelwyn Cottage."

The cottage was really lovely, well equipped, immaculately clean and a great cool, quiet place to relax in after a day out exploring the local area. There was lots to visit including lovely walks from the cottage and we actually had amazing weather. The food at the pub at the end of the road was very good and well priced. We would definitely recommend Moelwyn Cottage.

  • "The cottage was cozy, clean and had everything you needed for a perfect break."

The location was simply stunning, and very peaceful. The cottage itself is in the middle of a long terrace with several properties on the road. In some situations having frequently changing holiday guests in such a quiet residential street could be seen as an issue, but this was clearly not the case; the owner has clearly developed a good relationship with her neighbours and provided excellent instructions to her guests so that issues of disturbance are unlikely to arise,. An unforgettable, 100% positive experience! Nikhil and Mathilde

Thankyou both so much for your lovely comments. Hopefully if you visit again the weather gods will behave, but glad to see you still had a good time. Sarah Property Owner

A fabulous location for walks and visiting the local area. We ate twice in the village pub which was great and just up the road. The cottage was really cosy and clean, very well equipped and little touches like DVDs were great. There were lots of helpful notes about how to use things, which all worked perfectly, and helpful ideas on things to do during our stay. The interior decoration was lovely - it really felt like a home from home. Would definitely recommend.

Absolutely beautiful, with the owner's lovely artwork and decorative flair making it more like a home than a rental. Cosy and comfortable with outstanding views from every window the cottage was fully equipped and the owner had thoughtfully left lots of extras such as an umbrella, rucksack, deck chairs etc. The information folder was very helpful as was Sarah ...nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Although the weather was quite wet and due to covid several things were closed we had a fabulous week visiting castles and beaches and a mountain train ride.

Waking up to the fantantastic views made me feel like we were in another world. Our first evening at the cottage we sat in the garden taking in the view of the Moelwyn Mountains and enjoyed drinking the wine that was left chilled in the fridge for us (Thankyou Sarah). The neighbours and all the locals were friendly and knowledgeable of the area which was great. There are so many things to see and do locally, Portmeirion, Harlech Castle, shopping and lunch in Caenarfon. We were unsure what attractions would be open during our week, but there was plenty to do and we enjoyed our week as much as we would have done anytime. We highly recommend Moelwyn View Cottage and now that I have been to Snowdonia, I so much want to visit again , maybe with my sisters who I know would love it as much as I did. Such a lovely holiday that was so needed after a challenging few months.

  • "This was a lovely place, beautifully renovated and very comfortable."

It had everything we needed to make it a very pleasant stay, a great kitchen, comfortable chairs and beds and a good bathroom with bath and separate rainfall shower. It is ideally located for Snowdon and the other major mountains (Glyder Fach, Glyder Fawr, Carnedd Llewelyn etc), all less than 1 hours drive away, as are the costal towns of Conwy and Caernarfon. We found a couple of goods pubs with food, The Grapes at Maentwrog (about 6 mins away) and the Saracens Head at Beddgelert, (further but good for Snowdon). Both had excellent food at reasonable prices and large portions, with both we found it a good idea to book if trying to eat between 6 & 8 pm as they get very busy - a testament to the quality of food perhaps.

The property

Nestled in the small, quiet village of Llan Ffestiniog, in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, is this stone, mid-terrace quarryman's cottage.

Llan Ffestiniog is located well above sea level on the edge of the Migneint Moors and the cottage benefits from fantastic views to the Manod Hills and the Moelwyn Mountains.

The location is ideal for touring the 823 square miles of the National Park, with plenty of wild swimming, cycling and hiking opportunities, including the Snowdonia Slate Trail which goes past the front door, Moelwyn View has undergone an extensive programme of renovation and modernisation by the owner.

Many of the original period features have been retained, such as the stone inglenook fireplace, slate flooring and beamed ceiling.

The cottage benefits from 2 reception rooms with the dining room at the front facing the Manod Hills.

It is the perfect place to enjoy a morning cuppa while planning your day.

There is plenty of information on the area to help you decide.

The owner is a local landscape photographer and has some work displayed in the cottage.

She also knows the area well, so has plenty of suggestions if required to help you make the most of your stay.

The sitting room is cosy with a large log burning stove.

The perfect place to relax in the evening.

There is a smart TV and plenty of books, games and DVD’s.

The kitchen is light and airy and has been equipped with everything you could need.

It is a lovely place to have an evening meal with a direct view to the Moelwyn Mountains and Stwlan Dam.

There are two bedrooms, comprising of a double and single.

As they are located at the front of the property both benefit from great views.

The bathroom is generous in size and has been updated while retaining the period feel of the property with a freestanding roll-top bath and seperate shower.

In the garden there is a further seating out area which is the perfect place to have a drink before dinner and watch the sunset.

A garden gate at the back leads to an access road which is handy for bringing bikes and kayaks etc in and out of the property.

There is a lockable bike shed, outside tap and hose, bike cleaning equipment and a boot store.

Three miles away is the historic mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog offering several small supermarkets, a cinema set in a former police house (Cellb), swimming pool and other local amenities.

The Ffestiniog steam train runs from here heading down to Porthmadog.

The train can be heard from the cottage as it makes its way along the valley.

There are two local mountain bike centres, Antur Stiniog based in Blaenau and Coed y Brenin near Dolgellau and plenty of lake and sea swimming opportunities for those that are into a spot of ‘wild swimming’.

Porthmadog and Harlech beach are a mere 20 minutes drive away and the tourist village of Portmeirion is on the doorstep.

A visit to Bodnant Gardens and Caernarfon Castle are a 45 minute drive.

The Lleyn Peninsula and Anglesey are accessible as a day trip and well worth the visit.

Llan Ffestiniog has a small shop and community owned pub which dates back to the 17th Century.

The pub is very friendly, provides good food and is a 2 minute walk from the property.

There are two other very good pubs for eating out less than 3 miles away.

Moelwyn View Cottage is an exceptional base for those seeking an escape to the heart of Snowdonia.
