“The Lodge is a comfortable space - bedroom separated from the kitchen/lounge area - with bathroom off the lounge area.”

The kitchen space is very small if you intend to cook from scratch - very little worktop space and the lighting not adequate in that area - we solved this by moving one of the standard lamps from the lounge area - otherwise you are cooking in your own shadow. Basic cooking implements supplied, 2 saucepans and one frying pan. The oven gloves were missing as were two dinner plates, but a replacements were quickly provided by the owner. No welcome pack at all. 1" of washing up liquid and 1" liquid ...

Basic cooking implements supplied, 2 saucepans and one frying pan. The oven gloves were missing as were two dinner plates, but a replacements were quickly provided by the owner. No welcome pack at all. 1" of washing up liquid and 1" liquid hand soap left by the kitchen sink, washing-up sponge not new - these seem like false economies! Bed huge and very comfortable, lots of storage space and extra bedding provided if needed. The lounge area has a lovely view with fully opening doors, unfortunately it rained the entire week so we were unable to take advantage of this. Lounge has two sofas and lots of space to move around. WiFi excellent and TV with Freeview. Fantastic piece of wall art. There was a stag-party over the weekend, they were staying in tents further along - we heard nothing from them - but be aware that everyone who stays in their own tent or in the glamping tents has to walk or drive past The Lodge. Brilliant location for visiting Chester and lovely walks from the door.

The cottage

This stunning detached cottage is located in the grounds of the owners’ smallholding, situated down a private lane in the small village of Saughall, just four miles from Chester.

With exceptional attention to detail, this high quality cottage near Chester is a superb base for a retreat in beautiful surroundings.

Set all on the ground floor, the super king-size double bedroom with bespoke furniture, is situated next to the modern wet room.

The open plan living area has stone-flagged floors, bespoke kitchen units, a slate worktop and a cosy sitting area with a double sofa bed, a truly exceptional room.

Step out of the glass doors onto a patio area where you can sit with a morning cup of coffee, with the Welsh hills in the distance, as you plan the day’s adventures.

The grounds surrounding this cottage run to twenty acres and were historically part of the King’s Forest.

Nowadays there are numerous footpaths in the area, and the owner has a small lake in the grounds with its very own bar which is open at certain times of the year.

Just four miles away from this Saughall cottage is the Roman city of Chester.

Enjoy the city’s superb selection of shops, bars and restaurants, visit the racecourse, or walk around the city walls and along the River Dee.

Chester Zoo is world-renowned and makes for a wonderful day out for all ages; or you may wish to head up the Wirral Peninsular where you can find quaint villages, sandy beaches and a superb selection of golf courses, including Hoylake which was the venue for The Open in 2014.

Just a short drive will take you into North Wales where you can explore traditional seaside resorts, historic castles and the Snowdonia National Park.

This delightful cottage will live long in the memory and is a wonderful choice for a holiday in Chester, no matter what time of year you visit.
