  • "We were not able to have a bath as the water did not get hot enough so we are unsure if you maybe need to have a look at why that might be."

Apart from that however the shower was plenty warm enough and we loved the cottage which we found lovely and cosy and spotlessly clean and we thought the kitchen was very well equipped

  • "We had a very pleasant stay at Plas Arenig as the cottage is very cosy and the water is always hot."

The cottage was absolutely spotless. Amazing! Only wish we'd had time to stay longer. We found cottage as described in write-up and pictures. Street level cosy characterful lounge/diner with toasty log-burner. Downstairs cute kitchen with beamed ceiling on ground level leads directly into rear garden with patio which was just up our street. Hubby is 6ft 2 and yes he stood between the beams when in the kitchen but at 5ft6 no adjustment required for me beneath the beams as probably had 3 inches to spare. Loved the stone window sill and we had a couple of nice oven cooked dinners from the Belling and used the hobs and microwave too during our stay. Modern bathroom was well done and cosy too. Easy electric shower. We enjoyed living on three levels and going up and down stairs which goes with the territory living at the top of a hill. Views were amazing from rear windows and garden when the cloud blew over; it does blow in fast and we had a storm for 2 days. The local shop and the coffee house/bar downhill from us were both great and easy to reach. We parked roadside between the cottage and village shop but we could have used the carpark in the village. We would recommend the cottage and stay again in the future. We say see beyond no parking directly outside as unloading/loading you can pull over and unload/load literally outside the door as we tried and tested it.

  • "Thank you for a lovely stay."

I had a chance to speak to the cleaner who was super helpful providing useful info on the area. Unfortunately our stay was cut short due to family emergency- owner was understanding. We did have chance to use the garden (lovely views), the fireplace (lovely cosy). The facilities: were very adequate, bathroom, bedroom was lovely. Kitchen utensils fine, appreciate there has been challenge with the oven (no issue found). The washing machine wasn't available, but skyes gave small compensation which was appreciated. Parking: car park was full but there's free parking around the property (not on the double yellow of course). The village itself was super friendly (I am a person of minority so this stuff is important!).

  • "Very tiny kitchen with no cupboard to store food, no work top space to cook."

Oven only cooks if turned up to ful. Washing machine was broken so we ran out of clean clothes. Beds are old I needed all 4 pillows just to feel like I had 1. Jacuzzi bath...is from the 60s, one cover missing off jets another flew off when turned on revealing black grime...not used again. No tv signal most of time and never any bbc channels very limited ....sorry but used sykes cottages for years and never been disappointed until now

Thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry to hear you had some issues during your stay and have discussed these with the owner. The pictures on the site do show that it is not a large spacious kitchen but the oven does work as the owner has checked this. They were not made aware the washing machine had broken but have now removed this and hope to replace it in the future. They are not aware of any issues with the beds and the mattresses are all quite new so should be comfortable. They have never had any issues with the jacuzzi bath reported before, other than to say it was appreciated, but will keep an eye on this too. They are sorry you had a poor TV signal. The aerial had to be replaced a little while ago after a storm and they seem to have lost the BBC channels, even after acquiring a booster. This has also now been notated in the description; apologies for any inconvenience during your stay. We would happily have tried to assist if you had called us for help. We do hope you enjoyed your stay otherwise. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was a lovely cottage but the atmosphere in the village was a little hostile."

I live in the Lake District and worked for a holiday cottage business so I understand the strain tourism can put on an area but it legitimately felt if we said the wrong thing to the wrong person we might be chased out of the village. The washing machine didn't work in the property but we didn't come on holiday to do washing and didn't want the hassle of waiting for a repair person to come. The oven was a bit limp, but again we like to cook a lot, others may come and eat out every night. The hoover didn't pick up so we left an apologetic note for the cleaner when we departed. Otherwise the cottage was lovely with comfortable sofas and a fantastic log burner with a generous supply of logs. It was a great space for exploring different areas.

  • "The property is full of character and with cosy interior."

The location and views are beautiful. It has all you need, very complete. The tricky stairs without fence were not ideal with our one year old child. The upstairs floor is very noisy if you walk on it.

  • "We had a lovely week - the cottage was warm and welcoming upon arrival."

We had an unexplained hitch with the heating and warm water which resolved spontaneously - although the owner contacted us within 40mins of us contacting Sykes contact liaison- both of whom were very polite and friendly. The spare room bed my friend thought was a bit lumpy so ended up sleeping with me. (Perhaps more suited for a child.) Imagine our surprise when we figured it actually looked into Arenig Fawr - one of our favourite spots and bothy to stay in! Overall we would recommend the cottage - especially the log fire and spa bath after a days hike and hoped we left it in good order - (having replaced some of the blown bulbs too) :) Thankyou

  • "Pro: The cottage was amazing, very cozy, close to everything but in a quite area."

the fireplace is great, the kitchen is highly equipped and you get to see sheep all day, every day from the rear garden :) Con: The Internet has it's days, and didn't work all the time - a bit of rain / bad weather and there is no internet (and sometimes even phone reception was abscent).

  • "Nice Cottage and location, parking was a limitation."

Cottage was clean but did have a few negative points. The WC had a very poor flush! Kitchen tap loose and lacked basic kitchen equipment i.e. no bread/carving board. On balance I felt it was a little over priced.
