We were greeted by our host, Bev, who showed us around and explained the workings of the cottage. Our visit, in February, was when the weather was particularly cold and we were pleased to find the heating had been on for some time before our arrival. The cottage is well furnished and we found it very comfortable. This is a working farm in a rural location and you need to be aware that the shop is not at the end of the driveway. That said there are lots of walks and the 'play area' is great. There are loads of places to visit in the area and it is an ideal touring centre, i.e. Chester, Liverpool, North Wales, etc. We loved it staying in Hen Cottage, the only 'gripe' are several low beams but after a couple of knocks you soon get used to them.

About the location

Chester 6 miles; Llangollen 15 miles.

The village of Rossett is built along the banks of the River Alyn. Rossett boasts many fine buildings such as the Jacobean Trevalyn Hall and an eccentrically designed 19th Century church, along with a variety of hotels, pubs, and a few shops. Have a game of golf at the local course, or enjoy the pretty river whilst keeping an eye open for herons, cormorants and kingfishers. Nearby lies the historic City of Chester offering beautiful architecture, quality shopping, and excellent pubs and restaurants. Enjoy walks around the medieval city walls and along the banks of the River Dee, wander along the unique half-timbered medieval ‘Rows’ in the city centre, or visit Chester Zoo - the choice is endless.
