So helpful and thoughtful. On arrival there was a lovely welcome box, something for everyone, including the dogs. The cottage is very well presented with a spacious garden, the kids and dogs were very happy. First time away for Christmas, and was not disappointed. Only one point I would raise and possibly due to my age! I would prefer to have a handrail on both sides of the staircase and small handrails for the couple of steps leading from the bedrooms. This comment would however not stop me renting again.

Position with beautiful views & lots of wildlife in the large enclosed garden. Squirrels, Pheasants, Nuthatch & Buzzards & Kites. Our dog Georgie thought this was great racing up & down the garden. The cottage was spotlessly clean. Bedrooms spacious & offering views. Large Kitchen/Diner overlooking busy bird feeders & garden. We enjoyed our stay having lovely meals out @ The Dovers Inn (through Ruthin & passed the ALDI on the the way to Denbigh) and The Grouse Inn @ Carrog. Could not wish for better hosts. Any problems or questions they were more than willing to help.Thankyou for letting us stay.

Many thanks for the feedback. Really sorry to hear the cottage wasn't warm enough, if you'd of made us aware of this during your stay we would of immediately rectified the problem and taken you through how to operate the heating so you would of been cosy and warm. The Guest Welcome and Information booklet left in the Welcome Pack clearly explained how to use the cottage heating system. • "A70th celebration absolutely ruined, these owners are not nice people."

We had some really bad news before we left which meant we had one extra guest for one night, a child. I phoned ahead and explained that this would only be for one night, as we have relatives close by who could then accommodate the extra guest, the owners reluctantly agreed, but my stomach had already started to twist with the unempathic response I had received, I also asked if there was a bbq available as it was predicted lovely weather, and said that family would be calling over to wish him well, they where not happy about this either. I also explained that we would be back for a funeral so would be leaving on Wednesday. (Not Friday). The friends who where coming over where pensioners in there 70s. On the first day, the owner arrived at the house unannounced, checking the hot tub at 8.00 am, this felt intrusive and set off our two small dogs. The wife walked past around 10.00am and their dog jumped over the fence scaring out two little dogs. We where then out all day arriving back at around 7.30pm. My father in laws best friend was there, he made a surprise visit in his camper van on their way down to Devon, he is also 70. BBQ and evening was lovely. The owners arrived 10.00am the next day and where on premises to check hot tub again ????? My father in law’s friends said good morning, he (owner) was extremely aggressive towards them, and by 10.40am we had a call from Sykes asking us to leave for over occupancy, theses pensioners stayed on the drive in a camper, the other guests went home as they had a designated driver. We had 7 people around for bbq in total which we advised about in advance. None of them stayed in the property) I felt uncomfortable whilst there and believe we where being watched.. you know that uneasy feeling in the pit of your stomach. Also no refund given but not surprising as the of these people. Sykes also advised me to take this matter up with civil courts.

We went for a family holiday to celebrate my 60th birthday - the youngest party member was 4 years old and we had 2 dogs. The weather was glorious and we wished we had longer as there was so much to do. We ran in the Excalibur race in the Clwydian mountains, ran the North Berwyn Way to Llangollen, swam in the river, took the stream train to Llangollen and walked to the Horseshoe Falls. The area offers so much for all ages! The house was fully equipped with drying racks, lots of room for wellies and wet weather gear (not that we needed them!) and the best bath towels I've ever seen in a holiday let! Lots of comfy seating and it was great to have another smaller room with a TV and DVD player for some people to escape to! Cosy woodburner for colder evenings. I cannot recommend this property enough!

The property

A charming stone detached farmhouse situated in the hamlet of Pencoed, two miles from the town of Corwen.

This wonderful cottage is located in a slightly elevated position overlooking rolling Dee Valley countryside and the Berwyn Mountains beyond making it an excellent base for friends and families to explore this stunning area.

Groes Llwyd is generous in its proportions and provides excellent holiday accommodation with a well thought out interior with comfy furnishings and some wonderful features such as the quarry tiled flooring in the kitchen, exposed beams and stripped wood flooring.

The beamed sitting room is light and bright with wonderful views.

The impressive inglenook fireplace is a wonderful attribute to the room and the addition of the woodburning stove ensures a warm and relaxing ambience, and with enough comfy seating for everyone is an ideal place to spend time relaxing at the end of a busy day.

A second sitting room has been thought out with younger members of the family in mind, and is equipped with beanbags, TV/DVD, and a good selection of board games and puzzles, making it perfect for keeping those entertained when rain stops play in the garden.

The farmhouse-style kitchen is well equipped and with a large dining table provides a great place to enjoy family meals.

There is also an extremely large and useful utility and drying room, ideal storage for bikes and wet weather gear.

Upstairs is the well-appointed family bathroom and four good sized bedrooms, all tastefully decorated and well presented.

Two bedrooms are located at the front and enjoy lovely countryside views, both boasting a king-size bed with one benefitting from an en-suite shower room.

The two remaining bedrooms offer another king size bed with views over the garden and Berwyn Mountains and a twin bedroom to allow for flexible sleeping arrangements.

On a warm summer day or evening you can enjoy your meal outside, or perhaps take afternoon tea on the lawn, whilst keeping a close eye on the children running around and enjoying the fresh air.

The cottage is ideally situated for walking with numerous walks, amidst scenic countryside, on the doorstep and the Brenig Way, a 32-mile circular route leading to Llyn Brenig is close by.

Shops and pubs are available in both Corwen and Bala but if you fancy something a bit different, you can try a bison burger at Rhug Farm Estate just a couple of minutes’ drive down the road, an ideal place to stock up for that barbecue later on.

Corwen is a superb hub for adrenalin-fueled adventure, from kayaking and whitewater rafting to mountain biking or a more relaxing day on the Corwen to Llangollen steam railway.

There is also the Snowdonia Surf Centre, Zip World and Bounce Below on offer, just a short drive from the cottage.

Climbing Mount Snowdon is a must with the views from the top being spectacular on a clear day, however if you’re not feeling that energetic, you could always take a more relaxing approach and let the Snowdon mountain railway take the strain.

Whatever you choose to do for your holiday or short break, Groes Lwyd is a lovely welcoming home-from-home and is an excellent base for anytime of the year.
