Just two miles away is the lovely market town of Ellesmere with its interesting mix of architecture, shops and numerous festivals.

Famed for its large lakes, or meres, this is the ideal place for taking some gentle exercise along any number of nearby circular walks or you can stroll along a stretch of the Llangollen Canal towpath and enjoy the local wildlife.

Also nearby are Colemere local nature reserve, The Brow Golf Course, Old Oswestry Hill Fort, Whittington Castle, Park Hall Countryside Experience, Mythstories Museum of Myth and Fable and Hawkstone Park and Follies.

Steeped in history and originally fortified as an Anglo-Saxon settlement, this peaceful town boasts a lovely church with a 15th century roof and was home to Thomas Telford during the building of the canal network in the late 18th century.
