Settled in the quaint village of Harome, home to thatched cottages and traditional pubs in the North Yorkshire countryside, Applewood Cottage offers a romantic escape for two.

Featuring contemporary style and backing onto rolling fields, Applewood Cottage is a one-bedroom peaceful retreat suited to a couple.

Be welcomed into the porch where you can leave coats and boots following a walk in the local area, before entering into the open-plan living space.

Discover a spacious kitchen and dining area first, illuminated by the Velux windows above, with cream units containing all the appliances you need to rustle up tasty meals for two, and a dining table and chairs too.

Move over to the sitting area once you've finished your meal and ensure the woodburning stove has a fire roaring on a winter's eve, with a TV to enjoy as you sink into the sofas.

The bedroom is a lovely space to settle down in once the day draws to a close, with a double bed in here and hanging space for your things, along with complimentary robes and slippers for that extra special holiday feel.

Freshen up in the en-suite shower room, a modern space with a large enclosure and a heated towel rail.

The garden offers another space to enjoy, perfect for warmer weather and alfresco dining with a glass of wine.

The pretty village of Harome is a picturesque part of North Yorkshire scattered with thatched cottages, one of which is The Star Inn, a historic thatched inn dating back to the 14th century, now an upscale restaurant and rooms, a must visit for couples celebrating a special occasion and just a short walk from the cottage.

Venture up to the market town of Helmsley where you'll find plenty of shops and pubs, along with the medieval ruins of Helmsley Castle holding a wealth of history and Helmsley Walled Garden.

Don't miss an opportunity to see the stunning Rievaulx Abbey; these 11th century ruins are now owned and preserved by the National Trust and include huge landscaped gardens and two beautifully preserved temples, along with a café and visitor centre to end the trip with!

Enjoy walking and cycling around the North York Moors National Park with areas like the Hambleton Hills, Sutton Bank and the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offering picturesque scenery to explore.

About the location

HELMSLEY

Kirkbymoorside 6 miles; Thirsk 14 miles; Pickering 13 miles; York 26 miles.

Lying in a sheltered corner of Upper Ryedale, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, Helmsley is a prestigious market town with a spacious market square surrounded by houses, hotels and shops. The area is important historically - Helmsley has its own 12th century castle and English Heritage’s Rievaulx Abbey and Castle Howard are close by. Helmsley also boasts an arts centre showing films and plays, and an outdoor swimming pool, which is open during the summer. There is excellent walking on the doorstep - indeed the Cleveland Way starts in Helmsley - and the surrounding North York Moors with their hidden dales and villages are pretty in all seasons. York is less than an hour's drive south, as is Scarborough, Whitby and the east coast, whilst Pickering and the beginning of the famous steam railway line (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) are a little over 20 minutes' drive.
