  • "Lovely apartment and well equipped with dishwasher and washing machine."

Read previous comments about bed but we both found it very comfortable. Quiet site with good facilities.

  • "Lovely little flat."

Enjoyed our stay. A visit to the Royal Oak just down the road is a must. Good food. Nice tidy area. We had everything we needed. Did read the reviews about the bed but we found it comfortable. Would stay again.

  • "Unfortunately I would not recommend this property."

The size, layout, parking, and access to property were all good, and we had no problem with the bed or sofas. Pleased with quality of oven towel and tea towel provided. However, the "fridge freezer" was actually a fridge with an icebox! The shower was hard to control (nearly scalding us the first time we used it), and the spray was totally inadequate despite trying all the various settings. The baking trays were filthy (looked like rust and baked on food), the toaster didn't work properly, and this also seemed rusty. There was just one large saucepan (no small/medium ones) plus the normal frying pan and a very large deep frying pan. Made cooking very difficult. The bin was also far too small for the week, and couldn't see any more bin bags provided. Didn't use the dishwasher, washing machine or microwave, so can't comment on these. There was no storage for our own items in the kitchen/living are, although there was in the bedroom. Cleaners had also just piled the spare duvet etc in the wardrobe, which didn't allow us to hang our clothes in there until we tidied it up. The village layout was nice, and area was very quiet, but the signage around the site was poor and the shop was useless. A bit further to to beach than expected, but steep hill didn't bother us. Beach area clean and tidy. Tried to contact the caretaker prior to the holiday to ask some questions, but just got the laundry person who said the caretaker was on holiday and there was no-one to answer my queries. They said they'd pass my number to the caretaker, and that hopefully they'd call. They didn't! Would have expected a deputy to answer questions if they are away. Had a good holiday despite all this, as attractions and access around this part of the country is great. Could have been so much better with just a little more care.

Apart from these minor issues we had a pleased stay

Perfect for just myself. There were a few niggles, like some of the door handles felt loose. But overall it was a great little place to stay. The bed was comfortable, the facilities were great.

Thanks for your feedback. The handles have been fixed by the maintenance department. The Cosy Retreat Property Owner

  • "Very clean and in a good position, we enjoyed our stay."

However, lack of kitchen equipment: arrived first night for a nice glass of wine, but no corkscrew! One real issue was the bed: can feel the springs every time you turn over! This must be sorted out - it is on earlier reviews but obviously nothing done about it.

  • "We absolutely loved our weekend stay."

The flat is very cosy and well stocked with everything needed. I do have to mention the mattress on the bed is very thin and uncomfortable. We were ok for just two days but it would have been a problem for any longer. Thank you

  • "Nicely located apartment."

However the bathroom was in need of a good clean, there was a brown mark above the toilet roll holder, which didn't look nice. The white stand was dusty. Dirt between the bath panel and bath. The seal between the bath and shower screen was mouldy looking. Also the heat regulation knob was missing from the shower and it was extremely hard to adjust the water temperature. The bed was massive, however the mattress needs replacing as the springs can be felt, plus the mattress was stained, although it had a protector on it. One pillow had no protector on it and another had a badly stained protector on it. The quilt was very thin and also had a small blood stain on it. I did send an email to the name on the card in the apartment but received no reply. The apartment was close to the beach. It just needs a little TLC.

Thank you for your feedback. I can confirm that the mark above the toilet holder has been painted and the seal between the bath and shower has been replaced. The quilt and mattress topper have also been replaced. I will take a look a the mattress as this is only 9 months old. If you were not happy with the cleanliness of the property there are numbers all over the apartment where you can contact the cleaning company and they would have come straight out to resolve your query. Ideal for walking and chilling out with our dog. We took it in turns to use the swimming pool and gym. Some issues with opening times due to staffing but this didn't impact us too much. The cottage was very warm and had everything we needed.

Cosy Retreat is in an ideal position, half way between the beech one way, and the entrance/exit the other way were the bus stops are. The bed was lovely, comfortable, big and warm. Bedroom layout is good, as is the lounge. The bedroom furniture allows plenty of space for your clothes

  • "Lovely clean property."

The only negative about the property, was it could do with a couple small pans and a casserole dish. The Holiday Park itself is extremely clean, tidy and well kept. I would recommend a walk to the Royal Oak, instead of using the on site Pub. Anyone visiting the area must go to Flamborough Head, to see the Puffins and Seals.

  • "Overall the property was excellent and the facilites also very good."

My feedback is that there was not enough cutlery and glasses. Everything came in 3 or should have eg 3 teaspoons so when making more than 2 drinks they needed to be washed constantly which was annoying, same went for the knives. There was only one tall glass when at least 2 would have been expected and most importantly some basic instructions how to use the over, microwave and dishwasher. We wasted 2 meals trying to use the oven, took us some time to work out how to use one function on the microwave and 3 attempts at getting the dishwasher to actuall wash the dishes. I appreciate these are only small things but as I am sure you appreciate all ovens etc are different, so as I say something basis would have been much appreciated. I did look in the basket with lots of information but there were no instruction manuels apart from the television which we worked just fine. Overall we enjoyed our stay in the apartment and would have given top marks all round if not for these issues.

Hi Mary, Thanks for your feedback we are pleased you found our property excellent. We have now added some extra teaspoons and glasses. The instructions for the dishwasher, microwave and oven are in the second drawer to the left of the oven, sorry you didn't find them. Thanks The Cosy Retreat Property Owner

  • "The flat itself is fine, a good base for exploring the area."

The flat could do with a little TLC. Some oven gloves and a hairdryer would have been useful. Sofas are nice and comfortable. It was nice and warm, didn’t need the heating on at all. Shower is nice and warm and works well. It’s quite noisy, you can hear people coming in and out of the other flats to let their dogs out on a morning so don’t expect to sleep in. We were looking forward to using all the facilities on the resort but we only made it to the pool once because everything has to be booked online in advance. Pool was very busy.

About the location

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
