  • "Spent a lovely week at Grove Cottage."

Accommodation was clean, comfortable and very peaceful. Fantastic base to use to get around the North Yorkshire coast and we had some lovely walks into Whitby along the stunning Larpool Viaduct. Would recommend Jackson’s in Ruswarp - pork pies were incredible. The owners were in touch while we were there and they were helpful and really lovely. All in all a fantastic relaxing family holiday.

  • "Really enjoyed the holiday."

The property was ideal for our family dynamic. Being a half hours walk out of Whitby was fine. It was quieter and the children could play safely, hour after hour. Only a couple of issues worthy of note. The property could do with some instructions for the cooker, washer and dish washer. We worked it out collectively, but others might not. Also, the extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work. Otherwise, very comfortable. Thank you.

  • "Property in need of a deep clean."

We cleaned the floor in the kitchen and vacuumed one of the bedrooms when we got there. The vacuum cleaner was full and had to be emptied, the mops and brushes were filthy. The single beds had stains and hairs on the top sheets. After having numerous bites we realised that there was fleas in the property and we left three days early. The owner denies all of this.

The site is quiet and well maintained, and ideally located for access to the Cinder Track on the outskirts of Whitby. We had pleasant 20 minute walks along the track with our dog into town each day, so no issues with parking which can be difficult in the town centre. We can highly recommend a stay at Grove Cottage.

  • "Grove Cottage is very comfortable, well equipped and fairly modern holiday accommodation."

It is in a quiet spot- a small holiday accommodation development not far from the river. Whilst a short distance outside Whitby, it is not so far to walk along the cinder path or 5 mins in the car. Having free onsite parking at the property is a boon, especially for Whitby where parking places are at a premium and car parks are reasonably expensive. Whitby is a great place, plenty to see and do and some good places to eat. We would not hesitate to recommend Grove Cottage.

  • "We found the property easily with the instructions, it is actually slightly closer to Whitby than Google maps says."

We’ve stayed in several places in Whitby, I thought this would be a little far out but it really wasn’t, location is great and it’s really handy having the parking, which is essential for us. Had lovely views from both the front and rear of the house. Comfortable seating and beds with handy built in wardrobes. The bathroom and downstairs loo were clean and roomy. Had a good shower, you go to some holiday cottages and the shower is just a trickle! It’s less than a 10 minute walk to the pub in Ruswarp, which has nice food and a beer garden. It’s lovely and quiet in the evenings. The kitchen is well equipped, handy having a washing machine and dish washer. The only slight negatives I would say is they need to clean the upstairs balcony, the wood is green and is slippy and get some better seating up there, the metal seats are peeling and the feet are too narrow for the wooden slats, we didn’t use it at all. Also a latch on that door as if you are sleeping in that room you either have to have the door shut or all the way open. Also in that room we had a huge king size winter duvet in a double duvet cover, it was so lumpy and uncomfortable and had to buy ourselves a blanket to use as it wasn’t fit for purpose. They also need to buy a wooden spoon, very difficult to cook with the flimsy plastic utensils. We had a very pleasant stay and would recommend the location to others. .

Whitby 1 mile.

A delightful, modern mid-terrace mews property in a small development, overlooking the River Esk and the Ruswarp Viaduct just over one mile walk from the centre of Whitby.

Perfect for families wanting to explore the North York Moors and seaside resorts, this Whitby cottage provides an ideal base.

With bright and comfortable accommodation, there is a contemporary living area with a spacious kitchen and dining area.

French doors open from the well-equipped kitchen onto a sunny, south-facing decked private patio.

On the first floor the double bedroom offers a decked balcony with fine views over towards the viaduct and River Esk where the steam train passes along the riverside.

Tastefully furnished and decorated, this lovely cottage has off road parking, whilst the communal grounds lead down to the river banks, where you are likely to see herons, ducks and the odd kingfisher.

Seals also regularly swim up this stretch of the tidal estuary.

There is also a private patio where you can sit and relax whilst planning your next dayÂ’s excursion.

Despite being only a 20 minute walk along the cinder track into the centre of Whitby, this is a tranquil spot and offers a peaceful environment after a busy day enjoying the bustle of the narrow, cobbled streets of Whitby.

There are many memorable cafes, restaurants and bistros and the holiday can be rounded off with a trip to the famous fish and chip shops which line the harbour.

Walk the extensive sands to Sandsend to the north or tackle the 199 steps up to the majestic abbey which towers above the town.

The more adventurous may opt for a fishing trip or you may care to try whale-watching in season as Minke whales are regularly sighted just off the coast.

The North York Moors are on the doorstep and the pretty coastal villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin HoodÂ’s Bay are a short drive away.

Scarborough and Saltburn are within easy reach and the more energetic guests will surely try stretches of the Cleveland Way which hugs the rugged coastline.

This cottage is perfectly placed to take full advantage of this ever-popular resort.
