It is perfect for us. We had an older lady with us this time and would suggest a rubber bath mat and perhaps a grab rail . Otherwise this is a lovely place to stay.

Thank you for your feedback and we are pleased you enjoyed your stay. There is a non slip bath mat in the cupboard on the landing. I will ask the cleaner to make it visible in the bathroom. Property Owner

Lovely walks from the property particularly the riverside walk into Whitby which takes approximately 20 - 25 minutes on a flat path albeit very muddy in parts if it's been raining so walking boots/shoes a must. Fabulous butchers a couple of minutes away from property - the pork pies are the best we've ever tasted !

The house was spotless and has a very homely vibe, I could have moved in! Had all the amenities that we required and was spacious and light. Despite the closeness of the church, the double glazing really worked well and it could barely be heard with the windows shut. Parking was great for our car, felt safe at the end of the enclosed road. We really enjoyed our time here and at the neighboring beaches we visited.

The pub is a stone's throw from the property and is very welcoming for a rural Inn. Just past the pub is the walk that takes you along side the train track, where you often see old steam trains on their way to Whitby. It's a flat picturesque stroll around 30 minutes all the way to Whitby harbour. As mentioned in other reviews the floor boards are very creaky but you get used to them in no time. I definitely recommend a visit to Dabbling Ducks.

  • "What a lovely little house, extremely clean and comfortable, had everything anyone could ask for in a lovely area of Whitby."

The addition of the very generous welcome pack was a lovely surprise and very much enjoyed by us all! The only very slight negative was the squeaky floors upstairs, not good if you have light sleepers with you but as there were only 2 of us for most of the week this wasn't really an issue for us. Would definitely recommend this house to anyone who loves Whitby but doesn't want to stay in the heart of it. The lovely walk at the side of the railway line takes roughly 1/2 hour to get from Ruswarp to the centre of Whitby itself. Thank you once again for a lovely stay in your perfect house.

Lovely quiet village. Boating on the river was great fun and a lovely cafe just next door. Lovely local villages and beaches, coastal & moors walks, plenty of places to visit. • "We had a lovely time at Dabbling Ducks."

The property is beautifully presented with excellent facilities. If I could add one thing it would be curtains in the bedrooms in addition to the blinds that are already there. A fair bit of light gets in during the summer even with the blinds closed. The beds were comfy and the bathroom was lovely, rain shower over the bath was fab. There is a church in the village with bells that toll every hour but you do get used to it and don’t even notice them after a while. There is no actual garden. The picnic bench sits just at the side of the house in front of where you’d park your car in the shared driveway area. We sat and had a BBQ there one evening which was pleasant. The little front garden area of the property adjoining Dabbling Ducks is a bit unsightly with a various bits and bobs lying about, but the people seemed pleasant when we spoke to them. There are lots of things to see and do in the surrounding areas. The boats on the River Esk are lovely, as is the miniature railway. Both are just a few minutes walk from the property. We cycled to Whitby along the side of the railway and river, it took about 20 mins with two very small children in tow! There is a soft play across the road from the boats which was great for a rainy day. Falling Foss Tea Garden is worth a visit, a lovely outdoor cafe in a Forrest setting. We would recommend a stay at Dabbling Ducks.

The property

Nestled in the small village of Ruswarp, a stone's throw away from the seaside resort of Whitby, rests this homely brick-built cottage, Dabbling Ducks.

Perfectly positioned within a quiet cul-de-sac within walking distance to the River Esk, Dabbling Ducks offers a welcoming setting for your next visit to North Yorkshire.

A handy driveway greets you upon arrival at the property, leading you up a set of stone steps and over the threshold into a cosy hallway, aptly featuring colourful artwork of a dabbling duck, where you can kick off your boots before continuing through to the contemporary open-plan living and dining area.

The sociable space is thoughtfully laid out with a grey interior and boasts a wooden dining table with seating for all six guests as well as a plush armchair and a number of sofas gathered around the coffee table, inviting you to put your feet up and enjoy a spot of television.

Follow the room through to the amply-equipped kitchen, where the modern grey colouring continues to decorate the interior, featuring all of the necessities required to prepare your meals, with the added bonus of a handy dishwasher, so there's no arguing over who's doing the dishes afterwards!

If you're not ready for the fun to be over, head outside for a seat around the picnic bench and toast your glasses to a fabulous holiday, relishing in the peaceful atmosphere of the quaint village.

As the day draws to a close, head upstairs to prepare for bed with a soak in the tub in the newly fitted family bathroom with a shower over, relaxing your muscles amongst the bubbles after a day full of adventure.

The first floor boasts three bedrooms, a light and airy single bedroom, decorated with quaint drawings of woodland animals, a sumptuous king-size, and a second sumptuous king-size, fitted with a television, offering an escape from the main area of the house to watch a movie under the covers with your significant other.

Put down the oven gloves for the evening and stroll around the corner for a delicious meal at The Bridge Inn, a traditional village pub serving up hearty pub food, or take a visit to Jacksons Butchers to pick up some locally sourced meat or freshly baked goods to enjoy in the comfort of the cottage.

Take the short stroll along the banks of the River Esk to Ruswarp Pleasure Boats, where you can hire a rowing boat and enjoy a leisurely float along the river, or thrill-seekers can tackle the waters in a kayak.

Jump in the car and head to the seaside town of Whitby, the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s Gothic-novel, Dracula and climb the 199 stone steps to reach the ruins of the 13th century Whitby Abbey, offering panoramic views of the harbour and across the rooftops of the town.

History buffs will be delighted with the abundance of heritage to discover in the ancient town, from the displays that can be seen at RNLI Whitby Museum to Whitby Lighthouse.

Finish the day with a spot of fish and chips from one of the many eateries that line the streets and be sure to grab a stick of rock from Sandgate Sweet Shop in true seaside getaway fashion.

Be sure to choose Dabbling Ducks for an unforgettable trip to North Yorkshire.
