The Grange Farm Cottages

Across the yard from the owners working farmhouse, these two lovely adjoining stone barn conversions have stunning uninterrupted views of green meadows and mighty moorland hills yet it’s a short walk into the centre of the beautiful village of Rosedale Abbey. Both are self-contained with private courtyards ideal for a party of four but work equally well combined to create the perfect break for a group of eight. Exposed stone and beams remind one of the buildings’ heritage and sympathetic use of timber and wrought ironwork mostly hand crafted on site add to that rustic charm. Soft furnishings and fixtures complete the cosy country cottage look and feel. The courtyards to rear of the cottages are a lovely place to sit out and watch the animals graze to the soundtrack of a babbling brook that flows close by. There are walks running right through the grounds of the farm, so you can slip your boots on and step right into some breath-taking scenery. The coast is just 16 miles away, so it’s also a perfect base to explore the heritage coast and seaside towns of Whitby, Staithes and Saltburn as well as the delightful market towns of Kirby Moorside and Pickering. A perfect peaceful retreat or base for exploration whatever the season.

About the location

ROSEDALE ABBEY

Kirkbymoorside 8 miles; Pickering 10 miles; Whitby 16 miles.

Situated in the heart of the North York Moors National Park and handily placed for touring both the Moors and the Coast, the picturesque village of Rosedale Abbey is set within Rosedale, a beautiful valley of sweeping hillsides and breathtaking views. Rosedale is surrounded by wonderful moorland countryside with footpaths and bridleways radiating out in every direction. Today, a stone pillar, staircase and sundial are all that is left of the 12th century Cistercian Priory that gave the village its unusual name. Charming stone built cottages cluster around the village green alongside the village shops, tea rooms, glass studio and three old country pubs/restaurants. For entertainment visit Rosedale Abbey's very own pitch-and-putt golf course and riding stables. Follow this with a visit to Ryedale Folk Museum in the pretty village of Hutton-le-Hole. Alternatively, embrace the outdoors and "Go Ape" in Dalby forest for a truly memorable and adventurous family fun day out. Visit Rievaulx and Byland Abbeys and take a trip on the North York Moors Steam Railway at nearby Pickering. Golfers will enjoy a round on the picturesque course at Kirkbymoorside and anglers can try their luck trout fishing at Pickering. Enjoy a trip to Helmsley Castle and Gardens and take a dip in the open air swimming pool. The coastal towns and fishing villages of the Yorkshire Coast are within easy driving distance. Special events occur annually throughout the year and include Rosedale Annual Show, Pickering War weekend, Whitby Folk and Whitby Goth weekends.
