  • "Holmlea was a wonderful homely place to stay."

Excellent quality fixtures and fittings with spotlights throughout and nice touches such as light up mirrors. Comfortable beds and great rainfall shower. The garden was well kept and a good size for our daughter to play in. A few small issues such as no fire lighter to light the log burner with and could have done with some extras such as a basket and more pegs for hanging washing outside as well as an airer for indoor drying. The kitchen didn't match the modern feeling of the other rooms; had lots of utensils but could do with a few things replacing. Our biggest issue was the fridge- we saw other reviews saying it was small so we tried to pack lightly but, as a shielding family, we wanted to be fully self catering so ended up bringing lots of canned goods. If the fridge could be replaced for a standard under the counter size that would really help particularly with the house being able to accommodate 4 adults. Due to the shielding aspect we arrived a day later than our start day and therefore asked for the owner to be informed to take their time with cleaning. I always do my own touchpoint cleaning for peace of mind but we were disappointed to find hairs in bedroom drawers and wardrobes. Some of the kitchen drawers could have done with a bit of attention also. We thought that arriving 24 hours late would have allowed the perfect opportunity to do some extra cleaning that there isn't time for on a normal turnaround. Owner was very helpful when we asked about bike storage and kindly left the garage key. Holmlea was still very cosy despite lots of things having to be removed due to Covid. Great location with lots of amenities locally- highly recommend the Bothams bakery at Sleights and the fish and chip shop. Pizza shop from Whitby did a contact free delivery to our door and the pub next door served up some lovely takeaways for us. The issues we experienced would certainly not deter us from coming again and it is very difficult for us to find somewhere that we want to come back to! Overall, a well cared for property and you really felt like you could settle in!

  • "This is a great cottage, the photos on the website make it look more dated than it actually is."

Nice garden with great views. The rooms are a great size and there is plenty of storage. I’ve never seen a kitchen in a holiday rental with as many utensils! The fridge is tiny however. The entrance to the driveway is quite tight if you have a larger car. Location is good, Beacon Farm ice cream parlour is very close, there is a pub next door (very quiet when we went) and it is a 10 minute drive to Whitby. We will definitely come back.

  • "Just one small thing."

I couldn,t find a hairdryer I tried all the cupboards in the bathroom and the units in the bedrooms, luckily I always take a small travel hairdryer with us. Don,t know if it had been broken and not replaced or they didn't have one.

  • "Perfect location and very quiet ."

A word of warning to groups of four - the refrigerator is very small so do’t be taking lots of food which needs refrigeration.

  • "The bungalow was wonderful, the pic on the website does not give it justice, people will just flick past it."

It's a very comfortable bungalow with lots of space both inside and out. There is everything that you will need to make things easy and enjoyable for yourself. We will most likely be going back.

  • "Clean comfortable bungalow situated next door to a friendly pub and next door but one to an ice cream parlour."

There were walks from the door and it was ideal for touring the coastal resorts of Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay. The fridge was small but we managed with a cool box and ice packs.

  • "The cottage was lovely and spotlessly clean giving full covid safe feeling."

Comfortable, homely with a view of Whitby town and the sea in the distance. The website photos of the garden don't do it justice, and we think these should be replaced now the grass is green. The only minor issue was the small fridge, although we were totally self catering and brought a lot of food with us. We are walkers and this is a superb location for both inland moor and coastal walks.

  • "Can highly recommend this lovely, clean bungalow with all that is needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay for up to 2 couples."

There was a tray with some complementary tea bags & coffee sachets and Whitby biscuits, also fresh milk and bottle of wine in the fridge. At the end of the road leading into a track so very quiet. Pub next door quiet and serves a beautiful Sunday roast dinner; also Beacon Farm ice cream parlour and café which sells the best bacon buns ever! Views of Whitby, the Abbey and harbour from the back garden and dining room window. No DVD player so taken my own.

  • "Lovely house about 2-3 miles from Whitby."

The house as described is quite neutral, very clean and with a great garden with costal views of Whitby. It looks better than the outside photos! The washing machine broke while we were staying and was replaced inside 48 hours by the helpful owner. It’s right next to the Wilson Arms, which did excellent food and was very welcoming. Overall a very nice stay, would be happy to stay again.

  • "Great cottage."

Excellent location, very close to Whitby but away from the bustle. Very well fitted inside and well kept outside. Perfect really. Would prefer a bigger bed than a double, is my only observation. I would update the 1st photo on the site showing the cottage, its much nicer in real life, the pic is a bit off putting.

  • "Well presented, cosy bungalow with great view of Whitby!"

Easy access to the coast and many walks which were still relatively dry despite the previous weekends torrential rain. Circular walk from Ruswarp to Whitby was particularly good. The local pub was welcoming and very obliging with food orders, letting us share a main course because the portions were so generous.

  • "Owner needs to address the issue of rainfall shower splashing out of the shower enclosure."

It’s not a problem for the holidaymaker at all but a long term problem for the owner.

  • "The bungalow was beautifully clean and furnished and a welcome pack was there for our arrival including a bottle of wine, milk for a cup of tea and biscuits."

The shower had grab rails as did the toilet which was one of the reasons for booking and it very much lived up to our expectations. That you.

  • "With one exception - We found a bad smell in the kitchen which we reported and owner tried to address."

Reference number - is COR-120031-CF. Was allocated to Stacey-Ann. However, it was still there at the end of our stay and resulted us in shutting off the Kitchen door when not in there and opening outside door and window to kitchen when we did use for kettle, glasses, washing up etc. We could not stay in there to cook or prepare food so had breakfast cereal in the dining room and ate out at other meals. Ability to prepare our own meals was a key reason for choosing this place so cost us. As a result we left a day early. I think some compensation is in order as if it was other holiday accom we would have been able to be moved to another place. The rest of the stay and quality of accommodation met expectations, although the carpet in the bathroom next to the shower was a little dated and hard not to spray with water.

Quality beds and bedding, well equipped kitchen and pleasant well furnished lounge. Took a while to find back door key, found in airing cupboard eventually. Good sized bathroom but unable to open window as it was locked which despite an extraction fan led to bad condensation. Overall very pleased with accommodation

The bungalow was a great holiday home for our stay. It was remarkably clean, spacious, and tastefully furnished. It had only just been refited, and decorated to the highest standard. It had two beautiful well tended gardens, with excellet views of Whitby, and the picturesque outlying north Yorkshire countryside. It even has a pub next door! A mere few hundred yards away!! Which served the best food you could eat!! The owner of the cottage was lovely, and most helpful!! A lovely wecome pack was waiting for us, when we arrived. Consisting of a lovely bottle of wine, coffee, tea, and milk. Overall this has to be the best cottage we have ever stayed in, and we have stayed in hundreds over the years! Yes! I would definitely reccomend it to anyone who is visiting North Yorkshire!!
