The bed was comfortable and the bedding was of good quality. Ivy and her son couldn't have been more helpful and Henry was only next door if we needed anything...though he was completely discreet so we had total privacy. Nevertheless we found it cosy. It was very clean and tidy and well supplied with crockery, cutlery, etc. The hamper that met us on arrival was a very nice surprise. Although we had a minor issue with the TV controllers, this was fixed very promptly by the owner with a personal visit. The cottage was well sited for our needs of access to good bus and walking routes. Guisborough Town Centre with its shops, eateries and cafes is a 5 minutes walk. The recommendations and suggestions for eating out and visits in the guest book were useful. The good hot weather enhanced our stay, making the winter duvets redundant.

Such a lovely house, with everything that you need and beautifully decorated! Comfy beds and nice to stay somewhere that has good blackout blinds, especially the loft, pitch black just how I like it at bedtime! A lovely hamper was left for out arrival, with some lovely bits in, and even a bottle of milk, butters and jams in the fridge. The little added extras like blankets and hot water bottles and heaters were great! Even water and food bowls provided for our pooches. In a great location for exploring Guisborough and the surrounding area. Some great takeaways (Cleaopatra and Smokin Joe's, highly recommend) and for a sweet tooth Maple and dough is a must. Also a great little bakery on the main street, had delicious homemade breads and pies and massive slices of cake. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love yo return sometime in the future. The property was very clean, with a small garden for the dogs. There was a lovely welcome pack on arrival, the bed was very comfortable and even the the weather was cold and snowy the property was very warm and comfortable. We did have a problem with the heating, this was quickly resolved by Ivy, who is very approachable and prepared to go above and beyond to ensure you are happy with everything. The only thing I would have liked to have seen was a staircase to keep the dogs downstairs, however, we coped and uses a trunk we had taken to keep them down. There was also a lot of condensation as the windows were in need of attention, none of this spoiled the holiday. All amenities were on the doorstep and Marske and Saltburn easily accessible within minutes by car, there is also a good bus service from Guisborough. I would recommend and we are going to rebook for later in the year.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Henriettas Cottage."

The cottage was very clean and everything was thought of that you may need. The furniture and decor was all new and coordinated. Clearly a lot of time and thought had been put into getting the Cottage ready to let. It was comfortable and warm all weekend and we didn't have need to light the woodburner. THING WE WISHED WE HAD KNOWN BEFORE BOOKING These would have been easy to find out with a bit more research, but they may help another booker. PUB - this is listed as close by, it's actually 1 door down. It was quite noisy on the Friday night with drinkers spilling out of the pub. PARKING - there is no allocated parking and is all onstreet. The residents of No 14 (next door) weren't particularly accommodating with us being short terms renters of the cottage and made it tricky for us to park each time we left to go out. One evening we had to park round the corner as there was no availability out the front of the property and sadly my wing mirror was knocked and scratched. ENTRANCE - the property is split into 2 and the front door to Henriettas Cottage is shared with a communal entrance hall. We were a litte confused on arrival. But didn't impact on the overall stay. LOCATION - The cottage is on quite a busy cross roads near the centre of Guisborough. There is quite a lot of passing foot traffic, which our little dog isn't used to. So spent quite a bit of time barking at the window.

Thank you so much for choosing Henrietta's cottage much appreciated, please accept my sincere apologies for the patking. And thank you for leaving the cottage immaculate. Kinds Regards Ivy. Property Owner

About the location

GUISBOROUGH

Saltburn-by-the-Sea 6 miles; Staithes 13 miles; Whitby 21 miles.

Guisborough is an attractive market town set in rural surroundings on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Steeped in history, Guisborough is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the town's most notable feature is the beautiful ruined abbey, Gisborough Priory; standing in full glory, to its original height of 97 feet, the dramatic gothic east gable towers high over the market town and has become a well-known icon of the town. This bustling small town has twice-weekly market days, a good selection of eateries, excellent pubs and many independent shops. Around Guisborough sits the spectacular woodland of Guisborough Forest. Guisborough Forest & Walkway is situated in Pinchinthorpe on the outskirts of Guisborough at the northern end of the A173. It extends for 2.5 miles along part of the route followed by the old Guisborough Branch Railway line, heading west towards Nunthorpe, and east to Guisborough Forest, which is managed by Forest Enterprise. It is a gateway site to the North York Moors National Park and offers splendid views of Roseberry Topping to the south. Points of local interest include Highcliff Nab and Hanging Stone. Captain Cook 92s Monument is also within walking distance. The Cleveland Way and the Tees Link walks pass through Guisborough Forest, and are just two of the many walking routes easily accessible to visitors. This super country park has cycle trails, walking routes, bridleways, a trim trail and an easier sculpture trail. The park includes the Guisborough Walkway which runs along the former trackbed of the Middlesbrough to Whitby railway line. This includes a wetland area with boardwalks, woodlands and grasslands. You can also climb Highcliff Nab for fabulous views of Teeside and the coast. The park is also very popular with mountain bikers with a number of super trails to explore. There is an excellent visitor centre with full details of all the trails in the park. The long distant trail of the Cleveland Way passes close by, whilst nearby Roseberry Topping is well worth the climb to take in the spectacular views. An easy thirty minute drive brings you to the Heritage Coastline, with historic villages and resorts, including Staithes, Saltburn and Whitby to enjoy.
