  • "We had a lovely stay at The Mews - Sarah, the owner was very welcoming and friendly."

The children loved playing in the garden and doing the treasure hunt that had been arranged by Sarah. The children didn’t want to leave - even the dog was moping around when we got home. We would definitely recommend to family and friends.

Thank you for texting me when you got home, to raise the issues that you had during your stay. • "Overall good stay in a spacious property set in a lovely village and close to amenities and places to visit ."

Owner very helpful and obliging wanting you to have an enjoyable stay at her property.Back garden excellent for playing games, meeting other guests and exercising the dogs .Only criticism was the overall cleanliness of the property and food waste bin full of flies and maggots.

I'm so pleased that overall you had a good stay. Unfortunately, our cleaners were on holiday the week you arrived and I didn't notice that the relief cleaners had missed areas - I do apologise and have spoken to them. Re. the food waste bin - I try to allieviate this by encouraging guests to leave any in date food in the fridge for next guests - thus meaning the bin doesn't get too full. I did notice the problem on the Thursday evening (I empty bins every day, so was aware of the problem) but I had to rush away and had only called to put that bin out for collection the following morning and didn't have time to wash the bin with boiling water, as I would usually do. It has been heartbreaking to see so much food waste being thrown away and I will try to sort out a solution. Thanks for raising the issue in the feedback - it does bring the problem to my attention. Amazing garden and close to Bridlington with all its amenities. The host helpfully provided towels and linen and a cleaner at the end of the visit. A bit tired in places with some things requiring maintenance (plumber arriving after we left). Overall good stay, perhaps slightly overpriced compared to similar properties we’ve stayed at before.

I'm pleased you mostly enjoyed your holiday and wish I could have picked your brains on what was a bit tired - it's really handy to hear improvements from guests. I think you are right about the price being more than what you've possibly paid in the past. I don't have anything to do with the prices, but I know everywhere, they have risen this last year. This is the first comment in 8 years, that has said the price is high, but I fear that might be across the board, with everyone's cost of living rising. I'm sorry about the downstairs shower room tap dripping and the dishwasher displaying a leak - luckily, these were fixed quickly, after you'd left, but I'm sorry they were a problem to you. Everything was perfect from start to finish. When we arrived the house was lovely and warm, a very large property which had lots of room for all of us. Squeals of delight from the children rang through the house as they discovered a large basket of treats that Sarah the owner had left for them ( she had also left fresh milk and eggs) Thank you! Another lovely touch was things hidden in the beautiful garden for the children to discover! Lots of information and extra keys/ discount cards were also left for us. The property has everything that you could possibly want and is located in a lovely village close to all amenities. Sarah met us on arrival and was very helpful, a lovely lady who provided us with her number incase we needed anything. She was not intrusive in any way. On the last day of our visit it was my birthday. I found a large box of chocolates and a card left on the doorstop from Sarah. Thank you again Sarah. • "Mixed review."

Lovely location, large property, well equipped for a large family or a few families. Lots of strengths about the stay, great location, very friendly owner, who let us have an extra night as it was vacant for free, down stairs shower and bedroom, ideal for people with mobility issues and great central heating for the British winter. Lovely information and advice from the owner who called to welcome us and offer information about pubs, walks etc. lovely real fire with free wood left, lovely garden, private patio etc Negatives, I mentioned to the owner we were visiting with my mum who is end of life, my two autistic older children etc. I assumed she new we needed privacy and a low key week. However the washer was attached to the house in an utility type room however this was shared with all the other accommodations around the mews. This may have been in the advertising but I did not notice. The issue was this, it was an internal door that could be locked but it was in constant use so we found it intrusive as if we were in the kitchen our conversation wasn’t private and caused our two dogs to bark every time someone used it…..at least three times a day but one chap was often only bringing in a few items in it. The owner also said some of the village used it as well, but they were very friendly. Yikes! My autistic daughters found this stressful as well as the owner emptying the bin adjacent to the house every single day we were there. We felt spied upon to be fair. I think she needed to empty it as there were not enough bins for the amount of properties. She was always very friendly and kind but due to our circumstances it felt a bit much. There was also the issue with the trampoline which when the older adults used it we were told she was not insured for the use of it so had workmen in the garden taking it down….again intrusive, we couldn’t be trusted not to use it was the message I received via text. Oh dear… On the whole I would recommend this property, I think our negatives were due to the type of holiday we needed, quiet and peaceful family time without the owner being around stressing the family out.

Oo, I am so sorry that there were things you weren't happy with - and particularly ...... our negatives were due to the type of holiday we needed, quiet and peaceful family time without the owner being around stressing the family out. Id said to my hubby that I thought you particularly deserved a great holiday, as you were a super family, with a lot on your plate - so I failed spectacularly - so very sorry. Although I work full time, I do try and nip up to the Mews each day and although my plan had been to plant bulbs, if I saw you all enjoying the garden, I just emptied bins. I like bins to be empty for guests, but remember that week the bins seemed to fill up daily. I loved seeing you all on the trampoline, but it reminded me that my insurance company had never replied in writing, about the extra cover for this. I phoned them and discovered they were struggling to get cover, so I had to get the trampoline dismantled - and had to ask Sykes to notify all future guests that there wasn't one any more. I'm really disappointed that the insurance company couldn't sort this out. Re. the washing machine - I wish I'd known, as I'd have asked the cottage not to keep using it, but I think it's a sad sign of the times, that people bring loads of washing on holiday, to save doing it at home. This hasn't been an issue in all the years I've been running, but did happen once in the autumn. I've sorry my reference to villagers using the room to borrow books and DVDs was interpreted negatively - and I'll not mention it again. Villagers did very occasionally pop round to see me and borrow a book or DVD, when I first set up - and I automatically say it, to let guests know how lovely and welcoming the neighbours are - but haven't seen anyone borrow things for a few years, so I'll stop saying that - thanks for the feedback. Luckily though, the neighbours do still give my guests bowls of fresh strawberries in the summer - so I'll still encourage that :-) I'm sure I asked you, each time I saw you, if everything was OK - in fact you seemed to enjoy everything so much, I reorganised things to give you and extra night, plus late lie in, for free. I adored being able to help you, with travel cot, high chair, wheelchair, etc and really thought you were happy staying - I can only apologise that things weren't enjoyable for you - I can assure you that spying and stressing you out were the last thing I wanted to do Property Owner

  • "The location of the cottage is perfect and the surrounding area beautiful."

The cottage was very nice but was in need of a deep clean. In the kitchen there was a shortage of sauce pans and oven trays. I know we may not be the average large family as we cook most of our meals and not eat out as many do when on holiday. We could not get the dishwasher to work but that was not an issue as we don't normally use one. The bedroom we had was advertised as having a tv, which it did but no tv ariel or remote which made it useless. The garden was large and would have been ideal for the kids to play in if the grass was kept cut and the childrens "no adults" summer house was usable. As it was late October we were there, the grass was always wet and with it being long it meant the kids or the dogs couldn't go out without getting soaked and it was very difficult to ensure we didn't miss any of the dogs presents. Saying all that we really enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate going back if Sarah will have us.

Ooo, I can't tell you how sorry I am that you had these issues. I try to always say to guests to let me know if there's any issues, as I hate the thought of anything spoiling peoples well deserved holidays. I would have loved to have heard of the issues as you discovered problems. The deep clean is all booked in for November, when I'm shutting for a week and already have the painter, electrician, plumber, carpet fitter, oven cleaner, carpet cleaner and window cleaner pre-booked. The oven trays is my fault - I'd taken a couple home to use my soda crystals on them, but didn't like to disturb you, bringing them back - but could have done so, oh so easily. I'm so sorry the dishwasher didn't work for you - I know it was working the week before, as those guests said they were running low on dishwasher tablets, on the Thursday. I have a builder who comes every Saturday to put right any faults, between guests, but I didn't know that the dishwasher needed checking, so I'll ask my guests tomorrow if there is a problem and offer to get it sorted immediately. I have one bedroom where I couldn't allow a TV cable to be drilled through the chalk of the outer wall, so it is just used as a DVD player - but I'm sorry I hadn't said that - and remote controls seem to play hide and seek in the house! As you said, the grass was always wet and we have been checking daily to see when we can eventually get the grass cut - you are right - it is so long and it's driving us mad, but every day seems to be a mixture of sunshine and rain and the grass is going mad. The 'no adults summerhouse' does seem to get its contents emptied on to the grass as soon as families arrive - and great fun is had, but if you'd mentioned that the inside was a mess, I'd have quickly sorted it - I just don't always get chance to check - many apologies. I have checked my phone to see if I missed any texts about anything needing attention, but could only find my text offering you a later checkout time, so I had no idea you had encountered problems throughout your stay - and I sincerely apologise for that. Ooo, I am so sorry about the garden table and chair. My joiner / painter was due to teak oil them the day of your arrival, but a family crisis stopped him. I get these jobs done on changeover day so as not to disturb guests, but if you'd mentioned the broken parts, I'd have asked if I could get them rectified immediately. I've told current guests and they are fine to use furniture as is, as I have joiner coming to repair and oil the furniture on Saturday - so very grateful for you telling me. Bessingby Mews

Bridlington 2 miles. A small group of three mews properties and large farmhouse set around an attractive courtyard, in a quiet position in Bessingby village, two miles from the coastal town of Bridlington and just one mile from Bridlington's Old Town. Access is via a private arched entrance, with courtyard off road parking outside each property. Sympathetically converted from former cow sheds and farmhouse, the properties are individually styled to provide comfortable and homely holiday cottages, suitable for couples or families wanting to stay in a tranquil and peaceful setting, but be within a five minute drive to the popular and bustling seaside resort of Bridlington. The three smaller cottages benefit from all ground floor accommodation, whilst the larger one can cater for family reunions or groups of friends. Each property has access to a large, communal lawned garden to the rear with mature trees, shrubs and seasonal fruit, vegetables and herbs that guests are welcome to pick, plus an assortment of free extras, such as beach items on a first come, first served basis. There is also a barbecue and furniture for you to sit, relax, and meet the neighbours and a summerhouse which makes a fantastic bird hide. There is no pub or shop in the village, however you will find the shop and the dog friendly pub is less than a mile away. The traditional seaside town of Bridlington has long sandy, award-winning beaches, shops, pubs, tea rooms and the Spa Theatre. Stroll along the promenade, build sandcastles on the beach, enjoy a trip into the bay on the Yorkshire Belle, or for the more adventurous, try the pirate ship or the speedboat. The quieter resort of Filey lies a little further along the coast and is like stepping back in time, with its quaint coble landing, cobbled roads down to the beach and its brightly painted beach huts. Nature lovers must visit Bempton Cliffs RSPB reserve, with its wonderful colonies of nesting sea birds, including puffins in the summer months and the largest mainland colony of gannets in the country, whilst the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds are ripe for exploring. With many attractions in the area, these courtyard cottages provide an excellent base for a varied and happy holiday.
