  • "The location is lovely, peaceful surroundings & a nice area to sit outside."

The lounge area is comfortable & kitchen has good appliances for self catering. Sadly this is where the positive review ends for us. The description on the website states luxurious large bed. This is in fact two single beds pushed together & the mattresses are awful & you can hear the springs each time you move! Neither of us had a good nights sleep whilst here & both of us are suffering with really bad backs after a week of stopping here which certainly isn’t what a holiday should end with!! Highly recommend taking your own towels as well. The towels that were supplied for our stay had a horrible musty smell to them. Ended up washing them as well but that didn’t make any difference. Not what you want whilst on holiday! We won’t be staying here again & would recommend looking for another property as there are alot more places out there that do provide a comfortable stay for the same price.

I am very sorry that this guest was troubled by these matters. I am glad that she highlighted them. - I now double check all towels myself before the cottage changeover is finalised. - New mattresses [Zip and Link] have been purchased. Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely cottage for an away from it all holiday."

A converted barn adjoining the owners house surrounded by fields down a long drive from a quiet country road. Very much a rural setting but still only a short drive to Ripon or Harrogate. A little further afield are the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors but well within an hours driving time. The cottage itself is scrupulously clean, spacious for two, comfortably furnished and very well equipped, even with improved WiFi connection this year. Our third visit and thankfully blessed with perfect weather as indoor hospitality was still closed by COVID regulations. An agreeably old fashioned sort of break, setting off with packed lunches for days out in the open air to the many places of interest nearby.

After longs days out it was so lovely to come back and sit it the cosy lounge and relax. Thoughtful touches with a bottle of wine and flowers on the table. The village of Bishop Monkton was idyllic, and the surrounding areas were charming. Lovely village pub The Masons Arms serving good food.

There are delightful walks to explore the local area and many other attractions are a short drive away. The cottage is extremely welcoming at the end of each day - the photographs don't do it justice. It also has the most eclectic book collection I've ever come across in a rental property.

It is exceptionally spacious, warm, clean & comfortable, equipped to a very high standard with everything you could need. Everything is tasteful and good quality. Jane is a lovely, welcoming yet unobtrusive hostess . The cottage is set in peaceful grounds with a huge array of bird life and friendly cows - yet it is only a short drive from major roads meaning many great attractions are in easy reach. This time we covered two stages of the Tour de Yorkshire, visited Ripon and it’s cathedral, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Saltaire and Salts Mill, Northallerton for its market and the Joe Cornish Gallery, Bolton Castle and finally the Black Sheep Brewery Tour at Masham. We have had many cottage holidays over the years and this is by far the best. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

  • "Just wow!"

we stay at a lot of holiday cottages and Westwick Edge is easily one of the best we have had the pleasure of visiting. The location is idyllic, if you want complete peace and quiet away from the world then this is the cottage for you. Although it is attached to the owners property you would never know, as you dont hear a peep from the main building, Jane and John are lovely hosts and strike the perfect balance of making you feel welcome but leaving you to your own devices. The cottage itself is beautiful, the rooms are lovely and large and have all been decorated to a high quality finish - Jane has very good taste. The facilities are fantastic, we didnt want for anything- the kitchen is lovely and well equipped, the living room with its stove is a dream and also has a fantastic TV, the bed is extremely comfortable with high quality bedding and the en suite bathroom is wonderfully modern with a very nice shower and big fluffy towels provided. Usually on a breakaway we spend most of our time out exploring – it is testament to what a lovely place is that we spent two full days of our holiday relaxing in the cottage just enjoying our surroundings, the cows coming up to the living room window are a novel extra which we have missed since being back. Despite being rural there is plenty to do nearby and local towns and villages are easily accessible, we enjoyed days in Ripon and York as well as venturing to Middleham to the Forbidden Corner (very much recommended), there are also some nice places to eat locally (the Crown and the Masons Arms). We had an absolutely wonderful time and will be sure to visit West Wick again, if you are unsure whether to book or not, just do it – you won’t regret it.

  • "My wife and I very much enjoyed our week at Westwick Edge."

A lot of effort had clearly gone in to making guests feel welcome. Upon arrival, a complimentary bottle of wine and whisky were nice touches. The property was spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. Though the weather was pretty foul during out stay, the cottage felt extremely warm and cosy. The woodburner was well used! The nearest village of Bishop Monkton is a 25 minute walk away. A cross country route is possible, but the fields were simply too boggy during our stay, leaving the road as the only option. The village itself has no shops and is extremely quiet. The two pubs are open Wednesday to Sunday - for more choice you need to get in the car. The nearby village of Roecliffe has an excellent gastro pub open every day, in which we enjoyed a lovely lunch. Ripon is around 15 minutes by car, an attractive town with a good mix of High Street chain stores and independent retailers. As we like to experience new surroundings we probably wouldn't return to Westwick, but that is no reflection on the property in any way. For a quiet and restful stay it hits the spot.

Cottage is away from the road, quiet and secluded. Beautifully maintained with everything you would want. Two local pubs - a "gastro/restaurant pub" and a more traditional "real" pub. Both do what they do very well (excellent beer at both). The walk into Ripon by the canal is great - totally recommend Realitea for a great cuppa (the Indian brunch is fantastic). Appear to have spent the weekend walking, eating and drinking. Bliss.
