  • "Lovely well equipped cottage in a beautiful little village."

The owners were friendly with nothing seeming too much bother. The hot tub was a huge hit with our grandson who came to spend the night with us and the garden was fully enclosed which was great for our dog. We would definitely return.

Reminded me so much of visiting my Great Aunt's with the wooden beams, stone fireplace & the cosy couches. Rustic with modern kitchen/bathroom. Kids loved their first hot tub experience! Owners were great with communication before, during & after our visit. Couldn't fault it - lovely village and we were made to feel right at home by everyone. Cosy, comfortable and clean and has everything you need . Hosts Mark & Trish were kind enough to put up a Xmas tree and few decorations to make the place Christmassy. Village is small and everyone friendly, and the Pinfold Club is literally 10 steps away from the Cottage front door.. perfect . Weather all week was diabolical , wind and rain but didn't stop us venturing out , make sure you pack wellies , and waterproofs . Highly recommend a drive out to High force waterfall for a mornings walk . Beautiful place ..and Barnard Castle has all you need as far as shops , pubs take aways are concerned . Will certainly return again in the future. Thank you Trish & Mark for your hospitality. Happy New Year

It was very clean and comfortable with everything you need in the kitchen to prepare food. The locals are very welcoming, and I can imagine the perfect place to live. Trish was in contact throughout my stay as she lives close by. The garden was secure so our dog couldn't get out, the hot tub was spotlessly clean. I had a couple slight niggles, the hot tub wasn't up to the correct temp so couldn't be used the 1st night (the owner wavered the early exit from the tub on the last night to compensate) If you are in the hot tub and someone uses the shower and they don't pull the blind down you can see everything! The TV kept buffering alot which made it impossible to watch anything. These things would not stop me returning or recommending to friends and family. Thank you for a perfect stay Melissa

Thank you for your lovely feedback. The buffering on the TV is I don’t think normally an issue, it might have been the storm?? We have fibre broadband coming in early next year Property Owner

Everything we needed to make our holiday lovely, including the hot tub which was a real treat. Owners and villagers all very friendly and helpful. The only down side at all was that there isn’t a local shop and a long walk to nearest in Barnard castle - though only a few minutes drive so not really a problem, and Barnard Castle lovely. Bathroom window could be more private with frosted glass but not a problem to pull the blind down. All in all a lovely stay and loved seeing the beautiful views across the back and all the little rabbits running around. Pinfold club warm and friendly and service great. Thank you Trish and Mark

I am sorry to read your feedback, this is the lowest score/review we have ever had. The cottage is cleaned by a cleaner every turnover and we have never had issues previously. Biscuits were provided on arrival and a bottle of Prosecco chilling in the fridge, which we enjoyed in the lovely hot tub. A very nice welcoming touch. The standards of the the cottage , inside and out are faultless. I just think the 9AM vacating time of the property is a little early, but I’m sure there must be a good reason for that, and it did give us longer that day to enjoy the area before returning home. What a find, the pictures don't do it justice. A beautiful cottage ina small and quirky village, 2 miles from Barnard Castle. The cottage was clean, and had everything you need. Hot tub was a bonus, only thing I'd say is that it could do with some lighting from the tub to the door but that's just me. Couldn't fault the place. We went to thr local club, The Pinfild Club on the Friday night and met and chatted with locals, played pool, so nice. If you like running, perfect up from the cottage into Barnard and back just over a 10km. Bed are so comfy too and I'm not the easiest to please with the bed type, shower was great and powerful. We shopped before we went but there are some small supermarkets in Barnard where you can get essentials. We went for a walkaround High and Low force kne day, was only about 25 mins drive or so, then Durham the other day. Perfect location for the cottage, so nice to be away from the lights and noise but not too far. TV has netflix etc installed which is a bonus for the chilled nights after sitting in the tub. Will definitely go again.

Not the luxury we imagined though. The hot tub was very nice as were the treats left for us. The cottage is in a lovely village and is opposite a great little social club. The cottage itself was cluttered. The mattress and duvet were old and stained. The bathroom wasn't overly clean and is quite outdated. The hot tub needs more attention if it is being used frequently by guests and it turned cloudy despite my request for a clean. The shower wasn't secured to the wall and we had to call for the owners to fix it, but the quick fix didn't work. We couldn't secure the upstairs outer door very well either. The garden wasn't really very private and we had a number people pass by when we were in the tub or using the patio. The gravel path under the main bedroom window is very noisy and we were woken early on a couple of occasions. We had a nice time exploring the local area and beyond though. Barney is a lovely town, well worth a visit.

We were sorry to hear that everything was not as you expected. We strive to provide our guests with a relaxing comfortable break and any shortcomings we address as soon as possible. With regard to the comments Stable Cottage was cluttered, there was no difference internally to the photos on the website, so not sure why this would have disappointed you. The bedding is all new for the season however, we have taken your comments onboard and replaced the mattress and duvet with new. The bathroom is a little outdated, but again, this shows in the photos, however we are planning a full replacement bathroom in our January shutdown. The hot tub is emptied and cleaned before each new guest arrives and regular inspections are made, however we will increase the monitoring accordingly. The shower was perfectly fixed prior to your arrival and although an initial repair carried out on the day failed, we did attend again the following day and repair permanently and finally the door hinge has been oiled. The cottage is wonderfully apportioned with all facilities necessary for a staycation. The hot tub in the garden was an added bonus (although why we booked it) and lovely to enjoy the views of nesting birds at this time of year. Access to Barnard Castle is easy and within walkable distance (20-30 mins walk) across the fields. Access to the beautiful scenic areas of The Pennines and the North Yorkshire Dales was easy and very picturesque. The Pinfold Club is a friendly local club. The owners were friendly and accessible if required.

  • "What a lovely little cottage in such an excellent little community!"

We felt so relaxed and comfortable at Stable Cottage and the locals were more than happy to have us there. Access to Barnard Castle by foot was quick and enjoyable and the Pinfold Club opposite the cottage was a great addition to the visit! We would recommend the cottage to anyone looking for a classic British weekend away. Thank you Trish and Mark!
