pubs and of course the Railway which we used everyday. The cottage is very well equipped comfy sofa's and beds remember to duck when climbing the steep stairs, Parking space was also a premium. Our only gripe was the kettle lid kept opening when on the boil, maybe ready for a new one, but overall 10/10 thank you. Jacqui.

We are glad you had a good holiday in beautiful North Yorkshire. Thank you for letting us know about the kettle - it has already been replaced. Property Owner

  • "Very pleasant cottage with garden."

Many homely touches and the welcome pack was a nice touch. The kitchen surfaces and appliances could have been cleaner, and one of the bath towels was not a clean one. Beds and sofa were soft but not uncomfortable. 09:00 checkout is extremely early, especially given that you have to pack and clean up after breakfast.

I am so sorry about the towels; we have looked into this oversight and have upgraded our practices. We agree that 9am is rather early for a checkout, and we have since changed this to 10am. But we always try to be as flexible as possible about check-in and check-out times. Next time, please just give us a call and we'll see what we can do. Property Owner

The welcome goodies were a really lovely touch and we were grateful for the tea, coffee etc.. after our long journey. It's perfectly located for exploring Pickering and surrounding areas. We would definitely book again. The only thing i would say is that checkout at 9am is a little early for us.

We are so glad that you enjoyed Pickering and the lovely surrounding area, and that you were comfortable in Lockton Cottage. THank you for mentioning the checkout time, I agree that it is early and we are looking at changing this. If you book again (we do hope you will!) please let us know if you would prefer a later checkout and we shall be as flexible as possible. Property Owner

  • "Very disappointed with this cottage, firstly we were expecting all foodstuffs to be removed prior to our arrival."

Secondly the settees in lounge were low and very uncomfortably soft. Bed mattress was lumpy, needs changing. As do settees.! Blind in kitchen un-usable, was tied up. As a blind retailer/fitter, found it disappointingly poor. Kettle unusable, need a good clean filter and inside. Did not use any of utensils or pots pans or any think, we bought our own. We have stayed in Pickering 6 or 7 times, at a cottage a few door's away Kings Haven and never had any problems there, on the 5 occasions we stayed there. We love Pickering and all of Yorkshire, we will be back again but alas not at lockton cottage. Sorry to be so blunt, but somtimes you have to say it as it is for owner's to step up to the mark, and not take customers for granted.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Lockton cottage, the house was perfect and had everything we could possibly need."

It is an easy walk from Pickering centre, a pretty town which we enjoyed exploring and especially watching the steam trains arrive and depart. It was also perfectly located to visit lots of Yorkshire's beautiful towns and country side. The only minus was the traffic, which the owner does mention on the details of the cottage so we were expecting.

So glad you enjoyed Pickering and that you were comfortable in Lockton Cottage. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future! Property Owner

  • "Disappointed with the overall quality of the white goods and their cleanliness."

Fridge had not been defrosted, Hoover not emptied and needs fixing. General tidiness of kitchen i.e. greasy toaster with previous stays crumbs. Bed uncomfortable needs new mattress, maybe move someone’s personal birth control from bedside drawer! Settee is uncomfortable. Just disappointed as we have stayed in many Sykes Cottages and we often visit the Yorkshire. Have been trying to contact Sykes privately with photos but impossible. Information in cottage needs updating as reading we were given impression owners were based in Italy hence why we didn’t contact them directly. Just needs a little updating and love and would be a special place to stay.

We are sorry that you didn't find everything as you would have liked, and only wish that you had let us know so that we could have sorted things out immediately. We have sorted out the issues you mention. Property Owner

The only reason I didn't give five stars is for some of the general cleaning. We requested a highchair which was very dirty and we diddnt use it all week! A few other things like the plates in the cupboards weren't very clean. The cottage is lovely and in a great place where you can stroll in to Pickering.

Cosy and homely and immaculately clean. Beautifully decorated and with excellent amenities. We had a few questions about the facilities for our toddler as we weren't sure if he would fit in a travel cot. The owner could not have been more helpful and even ordered some bed guards in case we needed them. These were fitted and a baby gate made available. The cottage itself was convenient for day trips to Scarborough, Whitby, York and Goathland but we just scratched the surface of this beautiful area. Off road parking was an excellent bonus too. A lovely holiday and we are sure to book again.

  • "The cottage is situated on the main road in to Pickering, but due to it's entry porch from the street and window glazing we never felt that the outside noise was intrusive."

The rear off-street parking and garden likewise made for a cosy bit of seclusion away from the street, and the nice extra touches (little gifts left out for our arrival etc) we felt welcomed and supported throughout our week long stay. All of Pickering's main attractions are a short walk away, but again once the sun goes down the cottage takes on a cosy 'feel' and you have your own little oasis even in a bustling little town. Pickering and the Moors is a place we find ourselves returning to time and again, and Lockton Cottage will certainly be one property we will look to whenever we book.

  • "Lovely comfortable cottage, superbly situated and, possibly, the best equipped we have ever stayed in."

Bountiful welcome basket was well received. Pity that some obvious maintenance issues that were clearly not new, had not been attended to. Loose capping on the outside steps causing me to fall over, miher tap in kitchen needs attention as water spurts out from base when cold tap turned on, old break in patio table pushed back together and nearly had a full hot mug of tea in my lap and I noticed that one of the chairs had a broken horizontal stabilising spar brokenl. The Amazon TV turned out to be disconnected as we discovered on last day. All the above issues were within 2-3 hours of arrival but the balance of the two weeks were fine. I emailed the owners regarding the above but have had no response to date.

  • "Lockton Cottage - what a cottage!"

We had a fantastic week in North Yorkshire and it started from the moment we arrived at our cottage - it was beautiful and full of character and was, without doubt, the best-equipped cottage we've ever stayed in. Our four-year-old son loved the garden and his cosy seaside themed bedroom and the overall furnishings were second to none. The cottage had a lovely homely feel but was modern in its features and immaculate - the welcome pack was much appreciated and included essentials along with a bottle of lovely red wine and Italian coffee. Packing at the back was ideal and a short walk into Pickering which has everything you need and a stone's throw from a great local pub. All in all great value for money I would definitely recommend this cottage to couples and small families.
