We used them more than the front door as our motorcycle was parked out back. The back door opens directly over the steps, so you have to walk backwards down them as the door swings open and outward towards you. The double bed is indeed King size, but only just over a foot high - knowing this would not have deterred our booking, but it may some. Being a flat, there is some sound transmission from above and below, but nothing too troubling (marketed as Ground Floor, there is Basement accommodation below and flats above). Probably worth taking a 2-into-1 electrical adaptor if you have multiple smartphones, tablets etc to charge - we found only one available socket, the others committed to lighting, radio, TV etc. On the plus side, the location for walking into town is good (Spar very close, and even the far side of the market square only 0.6miles away), the bedroom, lounge and bathroom spacious and overall cleanliness good (although the sides of the sofa seating were rich in dog-hair). There is a pleasant front aspect from the dining table over the garden, trees and houses opposite. A range of DVD films were there, but we had brought no device on which to view them. The owner was very helpful when ringing to obtain information on access. Overall, we were happy to stay here and would consider doing so again; Ripon too is a good base from which to explore much around, yet having shops, museums, cathedral etc within itself, and the locals were very friendly.

The property

This superb apartment is set out over the entire ground floor of an impressive Grade II listed building, in the cathedral city of Ripon.

Boasting an abundance of character, including high ceilings, sash windows and traditional fixtures and fittings, Freemantle Terrace is an ideal base for a couple.

Access to this delightful apartment is via an impressive front door or through the original door to the rear, and once inside you will instantly know that you’ve booked a wonderful place to stay during your time away in this beautiful part of Yorkshire.

The light and airy sitting room boasts an electric flame-effect fire in a feature fireplace, along with a dining table and chairs in the bay window to provide a charming place to relax and unwind with your loved one.

Next to the sitting room is the bedroom, where a good night’s sleep is guaranteed in the fabulous super king-size double bed.

From the double bedroom and down the hallway you will then find a well-equipped kitchen for preparing a lovely home-cooked meal after a busy day, and then onto the bathroom, which has period fixtures and fittings.

Outside there’s a parking area to the rear, and to the front is a paved garden with a rockery, flowers and shrubs.

This quality self-catering apartment is on one of the most desirable roads in Ripon, where some of the oldest buildings and structures in the city are located, including a Grade II listed clock tower, which was built in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.

Access to a number of walking routes can also be found along this road, and the city centre is only a five minute walk away.

Ripon is dominated by a beautiful cathedral, which is open everyday and is well worth spending a couple of hours exploring all that it offers.

Also found in Ripon are the Yorkshire Law & Order Museums, craft markets, a number of shops and pubs, specialist cinema, a racecourse, a park and excellent riverside and canal walks.

The well-known Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden are within walking distance along the banks of the River Skell, and within driving distance are Harrogate, York and both the stunning Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks.

A wonderful apartment in a convenient location, with plenty to see and do at whatever time of year that you wish to stay.
