“It has been a difficult year for the travel/holiday industry, so taking this into consideration it was no surprise that I had to wait in a long queue every time I tried to contact anyone at Sykes regarding our booked holiday beforehand, even so it meant spending a lot of time listening to music on hold whilst waiting to get through.”

    ...

The ex-hotel was exactly as described with very adequate facilities for the number of guests, however the cleanliness when we arrived did leave a lot to be desired, we were ready and prepared for making up our own beds due to covid 19, however there were sweet wrappers in some of the rooms and a variety of other bits and pieces under the beds. The kitchen was grubby, I wonder whether it was too big a job to clean up between guests when there are in excess of 30 people? It could do with a good clean whilst nobody is renting it to bring it up to standard, especially at this time when everyone is aware of the perils of dirt and germs. The variety of activities available including table tennis, snooker, pool, air hockey, table soccer as well as a hot tub (extra charge) and bar made it ideal for all age groups. Also there was lovely outdoor space for games such as cricket, badminton etc. We did have a few maintenance issues that were dealt with by the owner whilst we were there including a problem with the boiler effecting hot showers for four of the bedrooms. We accept that it is difficult to get boiler engineers in the current climate. One of the outside blocks had issues with water ingress caused we think by guttering issues, I did make the owner aware of this, when I spoke to him he was already aware there had been a problem, had we known beforehand we could have avoided bags on the floor in that area and wet clothes. Fortunately there was good laundry facilities!

About the location

BURTON AGNES

Bridlington 6 miles; Driffield 6.7 miles.

Burton Agnes is a village 6 miles from Bridlington and is famous for the Elizabethan stately home, Burton Agnes Hall, built between 1598 and 1610. The house has been described as ‘the perfect English house’ and one of the twenty best English houses alongside Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace and Chatsworth House. The house is lived in and has been in the care of the same family for more than four hundred years. The walled gardens and woodland walks are beautiful. Nearby Bridlington has two award-winning beaches of golden sand stretching out on either side of the historic harbour, bustling with activity. Beautifully designed promenades provide everything from fun-fairs to quiet places where you can sit and watch the world go by. Shops, attractions, restaurants and the historic 'Old Town' of Bridlington offer a fascinating contrast to life on the beach, where the latest Dad's Army has been filmed, whilst the Bridlington Spa Theatre on the front provides evening entertainment. A great area for bird and nature lovers, or simply for touring.
