  • "A perfect place to stay - beautiful property, spotlessly clean, very comfortable beds with nicely laundered good quality bedding."

The lounge and kitchen are faultless - large areas that have been smartly decorated to make one feel really at home. The location makes it easy to access the North York Moors National Park, nearly seaside resorts and villages. The property sits in a quiet location with great views of surrounding countryside. The lane it sits in is very Miss Marple - like, with lovely cottages and church buildings. A lane that is very safe and convenient for walking dogs. We were so pleased with the property and its location that we have booked it for a week at Christmas.

Thank you very much for the great review. I’m pleased you found the village as charming as we do. It’s even more special during the festive period. We look forward to welcoming you back for Christmas, rest assured a warm welcome awaits. Kind regards Neil Property Owner

It was a relief to find the garden is perfectly secure for the dogs. Our only reservation would be the poor quality of the Wifi, but we were warned of this and understand it is out of the control of the owners. We'd love to stay again next year, either in the Chapel or in the cottage nextdoor. Thankyou for a great holiday.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, we really appreciate it. You’ll be pleased to know we are finally able to upgrade our WiFi and have an engineer booked as we speak. We do hope we can welcome you back this year to enjoy more of our lovely surroundings and test out the new speedy WiFi too! Property Owner

The garden is lovely and well-enclosed so great for the dogs. We were 3 couples with 2 dogs and the Chapel afforded us a superb base for exploring the coast, the North York Moors, and visiting/entertaining other family members. The only minor niggles were : * one bedroom is accessed through another bedroom * no cafetiere * poor internet Did these spoil our holiday? Not one jot. Thank you for creating such a haven for the harried holidaymaker.

Beautiful views! Peaceful location! The only tiny little niggles we encountered was the shower basin was a little slippy so we used a hand towel inside to prevent my elderly mother from slipping! Some suction holders inside the shower would be nice for shower gels etc Due to heavy rain the flag stones surrounding the property became slippy, needing a clean. Honestly though. This is the best property that myself and my family have stayed in so far, comparing value for money and location.

Very comfortable, very quiet (Upleatham's single road is a dead end, so no through traffic) and well equipped, with internet access via a BT mini hub. For the two of us and our dawg, it was the perfect place to relax in. Upleatham is small, but Saltburn is less than three miles away. In addition to the usual shops, it has some good restaurants and cafes, as well as a large park with a lot of woodland trails, including a section of the Cleveland Way. Unhesitatingly and unreservedly recommended - and a place we hope to return to. Jim & Ros

  • "The listing described an enclosed garden as did the photographs."

There was infact a shared walkway and our neighbours had access to the garden because of the placement to the bins. The property backs onto farm buildings, noise effects our reactive dog, I deliberately did not chose aproperty on a farm... . One of our dogs is reactive and perfectly behaved indoors however having an enclosed private garden was important to us because he is very frightened of people and other dogs. Considering the cost of the cottage the welcome pack..a pint of milk and a packet of biscuits was somewhat underwhelming. The web site describes amazing views from the bedrooms...all the windows are skylight windows so this is not the case and nowhere was it mentioned where to find the poles to close these widows...we found the poles on day 3......hanging on the side of the wardrobe in a bedroom we were not using. In order to access the master bedroom you had to go through another bedroom..again not mentioned. I think that the cottage information definitely needs updating. Great hygiene and kitchen and lots of snacks for the dogs

Thank you for your feedback. I'm very sorry to hear that you've had so many issues during your stay at The Chapel. It was for this reason that i contacted you by telephone to discuss your concerns after receiving your feedback in our guest book. Just to clarify The Chapel is not situated on a working farm. The property is a converted Chapel located in a small rural village. There are cows in a field on the opposite side of the road to us and a local villager keeps a single cow and it's calf in a small enclosure to the rear of the property. Many of our guests enjoy this rural feel to the place, I'm sorry this wasn't the case for you. As I explained on the telephone having livestock nearby in a rural location is quite common. I'm very sorry this was an issue for your reactive dog. It may have been useful for you to contact me prior to your arrival to let me know the strict criteria you needed for a holiday home in order to meet your dogs needs. This way I could have explained our location and tried my best to accommodate you and answer any questions prior to your stay. The Chapel is obviously a listed building so the renovation had its restrictions which is why there are skylights in the upstairs room. The website listing does state there are skylights in the property. The views can be seen from the original church windows downstairs. I do hope you managed to enjoy them during your stay. Once again I'm sorry you did not find the poles to access the velux windows until later in your stay. My number was available in the property for you to contact me at anytime, I'd have been happy to help if you'd have let me know you were having issues. There is a shared path to the front door of the property however both The Chapel and it's neighboring property have separate, secure gardens. The wheelie bins can also be reached from a side gate if needs be so, no need for shared access if this was a problem. A Welcome packs as such aren't something we provide however, complimentary tea, coffee, sugar, milk & biscuits are always left for our guests, along with coffee pods for the coffee machine. Dog biscuits and treats are also left for pets. Once again I'm sorry to read your feedback, it's just unfortunate you didn't let me know any of your problems whilst you were at the property. I'm not sure I could have helped with the issues regarding your dog as there are other animals and people nearby in the village. However I'm sure some of the other things you mention could have been resolved had I known. Once again, thank you for your comments Property Owner

  • "I think that you mislead us with the description of the property."

There was no mention of one of the bedrooms accessed through one of the other bedrooms. This is very deceptive in my opinion and we had to tiptoe past our sleeping children when we needed the bathroom. You should clearly state the layout. The property was beautifully done but not described properly in your advert. If we knew this we would not have booked. I believe you have done this on purpose to attract more customers thinking they are getting a 3 bed property when if fact it could never be sold as a 3 bedder. Very sneaky.

Dear Mr Pearce, I’m very sorry you were disappointed with the layout of the bedrooms in the property. I can assure you there was nothing “sneaky” with regards to the description written by the Sykes team. The Chapel does have three bedrooms. The master bedroom is private. You do then pass through the twin room to get to the third bedroom. This has not been an issue for any of our other guests as many of them travel with family and friends who don’t see this as a problem. I’m very sorry you were dissatisfied with this. The Chapel is a listed building which meant we were limited to what we could do with regards to the layout and we wanted to maximise the use of space. All three bedrooms are very spacious and can be made private due to the doors separating them. I’m surprised to hear you were so dissatisfied as when we met each other you seemed very happy with the property and your stay. I do hope you still enjoyed your time with us.
