The owners fixed the weather for us at the upper 20 degrees for the whole week so we enjoyed wall to wall sunshine whilst exploring the beautiful garden, feeding the ducks , who waddled in each day to the garden as well as viewing the glorious sunrise and sunset as the hills around us awoke and said goodnight … it was wonderful Thank you for the chance to visit North Yorkshire and our roots here meeting up with so many friends and family who joined us to walk some of the many wonderful paths from the cottage. I appreciated having no O2 mobile phone signal so that my peace and rest could not be disturbed as nobody could reach me !, a modern day wonder to be celebrated by me for just a week. A haven for wildlife, the joy of watching birds, and hedgehogs in the garden. The cottage was comfortable, warm and the décor was lovely. The little details that we found through the week were delightful. The welcoming gifts were really appreciated as were the provisions in the cottage. The fact that there is no wi-fi was not a surprise as it is made known and we did not miss it in the least, The garden was relaxing and provided the perfect stargazing spot whilst also listening to owls There are facilities such as the pub nearby. The owners were welcoming and available without being obtrusive. They offered advice of events nearby. The moors are nearby for walking and you have Scarborough, with it's theatre SJT, Whitby with it's Abbey and Hutton le Hole all accessible. We hope to return soon

They have obviously taken great pains to decorate and maintain this gem of a holiday home to a very high standard. We were amazed at how warm this little ‘sun trap’ was in October - we enjoyed making a fire but the central heating was more than adequate. We found everything we needed for cooking - and a fabulous array of leaflets and a couple of local history books. From the cottage it was only 100m to the Esk Valley Way so we had two days of walking without having to drive at all. We didn’t try the train but as long as you check the times (4 times a day), this would be very handy. We. Did make it to Whitby and the famous fish and chips but also enjoyed local tea shops and pubs. A great holiday break!

An excellently presented, comfortable and very well thought out property that was also immaculately clean. The cottage was small which was absolutely expected as it only accommodates two but the way it has been designed and laid out made it feel spacious and not at all tight on space. It is situated quite close to a relatively busy road which did generate a highish degree of noise but that certainly didn't distract from our visit and I would love a return trip.

This is not a glorified shack at the bottom of a garden. This is a labour or love by Alan and Karen. It is situated very close to where you can park your car just of the main road to Castleton. the outside seats look out down the garden to the hills beyond. Your own outside space is limited but for a base to explore the area it is spot on. You have access down the garden through the gate and straight to the pub and railway station. Castleton is easily walkable. Inside Bea Garth there are personal touches and well equipped although a hairdryer and decent breadknife would have helped (we were lent a hair dryer). The bed was vey comfortable, very comfortable. The oven nice and clean, the shower immaculate, the settee comfortable all gripes from other holiday lets from the past. The attention to detail is fabulous and Karen and Alan are to be congratulated. There is no WIFI, (as of yet) but there is a mobile signal. On a separate note, It is not necessary for Sykes to tell me that "Jim" has just booked a holiday in Cornwall or that 3 people are looking at a cottage. These pop-ups are very annoying whilst looking at cottages on the website. Alan and Karen have definitely got the touch for making the cottage perfect, beautifully decorated and it was lovely to sit in the garden with a cuppa (or a glass or two) and watch the birds and just enjoy the peace and quiet. Train station at the bottom of the garden perfect for getting into Whitby in about 30 minutes, saves parking which, by all accounts, is pretty dire in Whitby. We booked the steam train to Whitby too which we did a few days later, picking up the train at Pickering (which is very pretty and has a market on a Monday). The steam train took 2 hours to get to Whitby but with the ticket we had we could hop-on and hop-off at different stations along the way. Also at the bottom of the garden and probably a 2-3 minute walk is the local public house, The Eskdale Inn, great food, great staff and a lovely place to just have a drink after a long day sightseeing.
