Val, the host was very communicative and couldnt have been more helpful. The cottage is spacious and well equiped and during the rather cold & wet weather was a warm, cosy and comfortable refuge. This was our second visit to Esklets Cottage and would not hesitate to book again in the future

"The cottage is very well equipped but we were COLD…."
We followed the instructions about the heating but it just didn’t seem to come on- certainly not at all in the en- suite…a couple of suggestions- A bigger teapot might be helpful to reduce waste of teabags , having to make it in the cups. We ran out of toilet paper in all 3 rooms so felt a couple of extras might be an idea ( although we got some at the local co-op, which we frequented several times a day! )
Thank you for your feedback which is somewhat different from what you wrote in our Guest Book where you commented that the information that we left about using the appliances etc. in our cottage was very helpful. We would like to respond to your points.
As you know, the heating controls are accessible to our guests. We leave instructions for all of our guests about the timed settings for the heating and hot water as well as information about extending the heating period if required. The radiators have newly fitted thermostatic controls and the main thermostat is accessible to our guests. In actual fact, the guests who left on the morning that you arrived in the afternoon, left us a note to say that they had turned down the thermostat as they were too warm. We returned it to its usual setting during our changeover clean. The heating is working perfectly and was serviced in January this year.
With reference to the teapot, you possibly make a fair point even though it isn’t a small teapot. We will consider providing either a bigger one or a second teapot. In actual fact, hardly anyone has ever used the teapot. We appreciate your concern for the waste of the teabags that we provided for you.
You commented in our Guest Book on the great advantage of having three toilets at your disposal in our cottage. We’re delighted to be able to provide this level of convenience and consequently we provide toilet tissue as a matter of courtesy as, of course, our cottage is provided as self-catering accommodation rather than a hotel. We are very surprised that the supplies were insufficient for your three night stay but we’re pleased that our excellent local Co-op was able to provide for all of your needs.

It is better equipped than any other holiday cottage where I have stayed. The owner was very welcoming and dealt with queries promptly. We hope to go again!

"Lovely spotless clean cottage like home from home only draw back is the parking especially when unloading and loading your luggage."
Owner has put a sign outside asking not to park but people choose to ignore it. Otherwise we had a lovely stay shame about the weather but that’s nobodies fault. Lovely walks around the village .

"We liked it so much that we've booked again for October, but for longer."
We spent every evening on Saltburn or Whitby beaches. Places like Eden Camp and Beamish are an easy drive away. The train station is handy too, our 6 year old loved a trip to Great Ayton on it. The cottage itself is quite large. A large living room and a kitchen diner, but also 2 hallways, a downstairs loo, utility and a cupboard with lots of puzzles and games. There are 4 bedrooms on the next 2 floors. The master bedroom has a king bed with a fabulous mattress. There's even a basket of emergency period products. The amount of storage in the property is great, there are so many build in cupboards! The only downside is the lack of railings on the raised area of the garden and we found the bins a bit small. Parking is also a bit of a nightmare due to a very large mini bus mainly. But apart from that it was absolutely perfect for us.

We act on guest comments wherever possible and will look at improving the niggles you have raised where we can. In regards to parking, the majority of the village relies on on street parking and 99% of the time, there is space where our guests need it. We're sorry if you had any difficulties.

"We had a lovely time in Esklets Cottage."
The cottage was perfect for us. Everything we needed was provided in fact I think the kitchen had more utensils etc then my own kitchen. The shower was good and the cottage was warm. The bed was very comfortable. It was great being able to do lots of walking from the door in fact I think we only used the car about 4 times in the fortnight we stayed in the cottage. Although the car parking is on the road we had no problem parking on the days we used the car. We liked the fact that the village had a pub and a Co-op.
We would definitely go back to this cottage and area in the future.
We are very pleased that you were able to take advantage of our wonderful location and proximity to the North York Moors to enjoy your holiday. We would love to welcome you back any time in the future.

"A well equipped lovely cottage."
Everything we needed was there. The cottage is spacious and well maintained. Parking is usually available at the front but on the occasions when this wasn't we found space near the co op. Lots of local information is provided in the cottage too. Nice pub a few doors up. Great location and would definitely recommend and will definitely book again. Cake and milk a lovely touch too!

"Lovely very well equipped cottage."
Pub just up the road and very nice restaurant short walk away. The nice surprise was a home baked cake on our arrival. Highly recommend.

"A delightful cottage in a beautiful part of the UK."
We had a fantastic time in Yorkshire and Northumberland and managed to visit lots of beautiful beaches, castles and a waterfall. It was lovely to return to a relaxing, very clean, well set up (with 2 colander!) cottage with games, Wi-Fi and very comfy beds. Val was so lovely and helpful too. Highly recommend!☆☆☆☆☆

"The cottage was larger than we expected, cosy but with the large kitchen diner and separate lounge space for us to play cards or games whilst others watched tv or read."
It was really well equipped and had everything we needed and more! The owners are so lovely and the welcome gifts of milk, biscuits, tea and coffee was so thoughtful, thank you Val!
The village setting was wonderful, a lovely pub for meals close by and the convenience of a local shop was a bonus. It was set in the North Yorkshire Moors and we enjoyed lovely walks exploring. I’m hoping we can visit again soon.

"We had a great couple of weeks here in Esklets Cottage."
The house was perfect for us, a family of four - 2 adults and 2 teens. Castleton is a really good base with walks straight out of the doors, great views, a pub, tearoom, coop and fancy deli all in the village itself. The village is also on a trainline which makes for car-free possibilities too and there's lots to do within striking distance by car as well. We swam in the sea, in waterfall pools and the gorgeous Helmsley open-air pool; walked by the sea, on the moors and in lovely dales; visited castles and abbeys and the excellent Ryedale Folk Museum and ate our own bodyweights in local cheeses and cream teas.
The cottage itself had everythinhg we needed including a very well equipped kitchen with a large dining table and a place to sit outside.
It's clear too that the owners have made a special effort to make their guests welcome - the information folders about the house and local area were brilliant and the homemade cake, eggs, milk and biscuits left for us on arrival were very welcome. Highly recommended.

"Generally it was comfortable and well equipped the only slightly annoying points which may be expected in an old cottage conversion that is a bit of a maze were as follows:
- After a day or so I made the comment "so much space and nowhere to put anything" as we seemed to be continuously moving around backwards and forwards."
Plenty of cupboards tucked here there and everywhere all with doors but which one did I use?
- The fridge is by the door to the hall near the front door but the kitchen is at the other end by the back door and the freezer is in the garden across a small yard and up some awkward steps in the lockable shed with awkwardly fitting key.
- The same shed is the bike lockup but really unusable as such because of said steps. Additionally access to the yard was via a shared passage full of clutter and not smelling too good - locked at both ends if the next door users had not left it unlocked. So bike security somewhat weakened in terms of access.
- Parking, yes there is plenty of street parking but you might be parking a long way away at times.
- Just a small thing my wife pointed out that there was no colander in the kitchen.
So the bottom line “Would we go there again?. Well we might as the North York Moors is an area that we have always liked and in that respect it did not disappoint but I think we would try to find somewhere more acceptable to us first.

"Wonderfully, comfortable , spacious cottage."
Very well equipped and immaculately clean. Milk and shortbread were much appreciated. The only tiny suggestions to make even better would be a fridge with an ice box facility for ice in G&t's. Perfection!

.. Pyrex dishes of you felt the need to cook... clean exceptionally so probably the cleanest Cottage I've ever stayed in. Comfortable beds... large bedrooms brilliant and three choices of bathroom what more could you want I can't recommend this Cottage enough for value for money

"This cottage was superb in all aspects including all facilities, the comfort and homeliness , where it is situated and how clean it was."
There was a lot of useful information in the home guide and also the local guide folder. Also a very nice touch with the provision of a delicious Lemon Drizzle cake on our arrival.
The area is very quiet but very beautiful particularly if you like walking. The village has a pub and a coffee / breakfast hall and a very useful co-op store who supply most things you need for your stay. There is also a Bakery which sells very nice pastries etc. We would certainly stay at this property again, no hesitation.

"The cottage exceeded our expectations."
it was clean, comfortable and had everything you need to stay for the week. The lemon drizzle cake the owners left was fabulous. The cottage was situated on the main high street. a very short walk from the local Pub and COOP store. The top tier of the back garden Looked our over the North Yorkshire moors. A stunning location and a lovely warm welcoming house. We would definitely rebook if we were coming back to the area. .

"Nicely appointed cottage, in an area we explored properly as we had more time rather than spend all day travelling."
The amenities in the village were very usable. The food at the local "pub" was excellent. Yes nice holiday cottage. Let's hope we get the chance to go on holiday again in 2021.
