  • "Lovely place to stay."

Clean and homely. Well equipped. Love how the property is modern equipped but has the old feel to it still. Parking is a little bit of a problem especially being next to a school. But if you time your coming and goings then you can work around it. Not so ideal for dogs but we also managed that. The village is nice with its own pubs and a convenient shop. Easy travel to the North Yorkshire coast. Or walking up on the moors. Yes we would stay again. Lovely welcome pack. Many thanks for a lovely stay.

Thank you for the great and useful feedback. We are pleased you had a lovely stay. It is also pleasing to us that you appreciated our efforts to keep the look and feel of the cottage, in the work we and previous custodians have put into it. Regarding dog friendliness, from experience, we no longer allow dogs to be unsupervised in the patio garden, however there is a public footpath to the countryside straight across the road. We find the school very quiet, even in term time but also enjoy the occasional choir practice from the little ones at the end of term! Property Owner

  • "Fantastic stay enjoyed by all the guests."

Everything needed was on hand and the only suggestion I could make would be to put a small mirror in each of the attic floor bedrooms. The cottage, village and its location was amazing with easy access to all major attractions. I would totally recommend to family and friends. Thank you

Many thanks for the great feedback and suggestion, we will certainly do something. Our current 'project' is restoring a full length mirror. We will look for something fitting for the attic rooms. Property Owner

  • "During our weeks stay we were unable to sit out on terrace because of strong smell and flies from bins."

Feel you need to include a warning regarding the steepness and narrowness of the stair treads up to the second floor. Needs hanging space in 2nd double bedroom as being in our late seventies we found it very difficult and dangerous having to climb up to the second floor to get our clothes. We also feel that 13,5 duvets are much too thick for the summer months.

Thank You for your feedback, we apologise for the issue with the bins which has never occurred before. The bins are monitored and emptied weekly. We understand some waste was placed unbagged in the general waste bin. Feedback is also a great opportunity for us. After much consideration, we think that if we had been aware of the issues at the time, we could have done something to resolve them quickly and effectively. We are taking actions to reduce the risk of a recurrence. We carefully follow the guidance of Sykes cottages and our information pack also contains lots of information on how to ensure an enjoyable stay at Springfield. We would like to take this opportunity to remind future guests they have the support of Sykes, the housekeeping team and the owners before, during and after your stay. Property Owner

  • "This cottage was perfect for our stay walking the Esk Valley way."

It was warm, clean and very comfortable to come back to each evening. It was the best equipped cottage I have stayed in and had everything you had at home and plenty of it. Everything was in good condition and the beds comfortable. Plenty of hot water and the waterfall shower was wonderful. Would highly recommend this cottage and definetly stay here again

Thanks for the great feedback, it is what makes it all worthwhile for us, the plan is to steadily improve further. Property Owner

  • "I went with three friends, we stayed at Springfield cottage in Castleton, North Yorkshire."

Absolutely loved everything about the cottage, the flagstone floor, the stable door to the patio with a lovely view of the hills, the wood burning fires.. clean and modern bathrooms. A very thoughtful welcome basket of goodies on our arrival was a lovely touch. Just a short walk to the friendly local pub where they welcomed us to their Thursday quiz night.. great fun! Would DEFINITELY recommend 100%. Gina.

Thanks for the great feedback. We hope you did better in the quiz than us! Property Owner

  • "We can't fault the cottage, the photos didn't do it justice."

So clean, plenty of kitchen items to use, comfy beds and extremely cosy. Its been beautifully restored and upto a high standard. The owners had thought of every little detail, the information book was really helpful. The welcome wine and ice in the freezer was a lovely touch. We felt right at home and so did our dog.

Great feedback thank you. We hope to make it even better, but still keep the cottage that little bit quirky by maintaining its mixed heritage over 150yrs+ Property Owner

  • "The property was ideally situated in a beautiful village surrounded by the most awesome views."

It was in easy reach of the coast and other York moors attractions. The cottage itself was very comfortable and had all the amenities you need. Only 2 points to mention. The dining room table was a little small to accommodate 6 people and the oven needed a good clean. Otherwise it was a beautiful cottage. Warm, cosy and well appointed. I would definitely go back again. Thank you

Thank you for the lovely feedback, really pleased you enjoyed your stay, you have described exactly why we love Castleton. Sorry to hear you felt the dining table was a little small, it is designed for 6 adults. We are learning quickly about letting and your feedback is useful to us. It has been a very busy season and the cottage has been full throughout. We were surprised at how much the oven has been used and it has finally had another clean. Property Owner

  • "Can't fault the home or the location at all, the cottage was very nice to stay in for the week."

There was lots of space for all 6 of us to comfortably enjoy the space, relax in the evening together after a long walk and to all eat together. The kitchen was well stocked and I appreciated the leaflets and infomation that was waiting for us along with the welcome basket. The bathrooms and all areas were lovely and clean and the house felt cosy. The location of the property also meant you really don't have to drive far to get to beaches, walks and all the areas we wanted to visit which made the holiday much more enjoyable. However, what let it down for us was that we were unaware it was a shared garden and that the neighbour is afraid of dogs. We spoke with the neighbour and had an agreement but meant we didn't use the garden. We would have preferred to have allowed our dog to have enjoyed the space freely with us. Also, we were charged for additional cleaning services after, which I feel could have been included in the cost as standard. Given this house is a bargain for what you get I wouldn't have minded and would have saved hassle and being left a sour taste in the mouth after such a good holiday. I suspect the latter, is more to do with how Sykes opperates so personally wont be using them again but would recommend the property itself.

Thank you for the feedback, we are glad you like the cottage and the area. The additional cleaning costs, were extraordinary, and this is the first time we have needed to charge, it was an owner decision not Sykes Cottages. A feedback form and contact details are provided so that if we are aware, we can deal promptly with accidental breakages, minor damage etc. In this case the cleaners were left in a difficult situation with limited time to make the cottage ready for the next guests. They took the necessary action. We had follow up actions. Unfortunately there was an impact on the next guests. We allow one well behaved pet and we thank you for controlling your dog following the incident with a guest of our neighbour, who we understand made you aware of the joint access arrangements (it is not a shared garden) that is a feature of many cottages in North Yorkshire. Our neighbours are happy that we allow dogs and have given us some good ideas for how to manage this better going forward. Thank you again for the learning opportunity. We will be making some small changes to make our guests stay even better next season. Property Owner
