  • "The property was spacious, but did not feel like other holiday homes we have stayed in particularly for the price."

Furniture was worn and pet damaged, there wasn’t enough seating in the main lounge for the family to sit together and the television was behind the sofa! Not very conducive to a family movie evening. The kitchen was equipped with a hodgepodge of equipment, there were enough dinnerware and cutlery, but a lack of saucepans and cooking receptacles made cooking for ten a challenge. Beds were comfortable, but bedrooms were lacking bins, usable reading lamps and bedside tables in some places and the smallest double has no storage space which made it tricky. The property has two bathrooms on the first floor, one equipped with a shower. The water pressure was very low and went off completely if water was used elsewhere in the house. This made getting ten people out in the morning a military operation! The garden is beautiful but could benefit from some maintenance and seating for the group, there is one small metal bench and a small round table and two chairs so no option for dining outside. The property is equipped with a washing machine, this was very noisy and left oil stains on our clothes, not ideal! There was no welcome book with guidance on bins, recycling, check out or local information. There was refuse in all external bins which made it very hard to know which bins were which, we tried to sort some of this out and googled to find out. Overall this house could be so much better, it wasn’t the standard we’ve had before using Sykes and felt like a reluctant holiday let rather than a cottage ready to welcome us for a lovely holiday. Cawood is lovely, well located and welcoming. There is no convenience store, though the pickled postie is great for small items and refreshments when open. Shopping is easy in Selby and we bought wood for the fires at The Range. No wood was left and no guidance where it could be purchased. The owners were responsive to initial messages and I hope they will take on board feedback so that future guests can enjoy their holiday.

  • "This is a beautiful house but could be so much more with some tlc."

I’ve already the issues about the oven not working and the state of the two other ovens. I have to say I find the customer service from Skye’s very disappointing.
