  • “Large Fantastic House worked well with 2 families”

The accommodation is in a small hamlet accessed by a narrow road. It's a quiet setting with the village of Hovingham about 30 mins walk away. The accommodation is in a small hamlet accessed by a narrow road. It's a quiet setting with the village of Hovingham about 30 mins walk away. The kitchen breakfast area is huge and we easily catered for our party of 10. The property is well heated and spacious. The main lounge was big enough for the group to sit, the wood burning stove giving a welcome focal point to the room. The sky system installed is the alstets Q system which also had additional screens around the house. There was a smaller lounge the children used with a L shaped settee and beanbags. They played card games and watched a couple of films together in here. The dining room had plenty of room around a long rectangular table where we could eat together. The bedrooms were brilliant. They were subtly themed and most had ensuite. This was really useful with large walk in showers and underf floor heating. The top floor had three bed rooms with a shared bathroom which we left to the children. It usefully had an electric shower. The off road packing was useful at the back which enabled unloading cars easy access. There was also a heated jacuzzi that we used most nights. The local is in a line between York and Whitby and made a useful location for visits. A great location which we would use again.

The property

Hovingham 2 miles.

St Hilda's House is a stunning, detached stone-built house set in the pretty and peaceful hamlet of Cawton, a couple of miles from Hovingham, close to both Helmsley and Malton.

Nestled within some of North Yorkshire's most beautiful countryside, this wonderful house has been designed with two things in mind; comfort and luxury.

The whole house could have been styled from a glossy magazine with Travertine tiling in all the bathrooms, stylish decor throughout, quality soft furnishings and a sumptuous kitchen.

The sitting room provides an oasis of quiet comfort enhanced by the crackling of the woodburner, the snug also has its own woodburner.

Set over three floors, there are six bedrooms at this superb property, with two twin rooms, one with an extra children’s pull out bed, on the second floor, whilst the other four are on the first floor, including two that boast en-suite facilities.

Outside there is a spacious patio where you can dine alfresco.

The house lies close to the beautiful, rolling countryside of the Howardian Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

At the heart of these hills is the iconic Castle Howard which really is a 'must do' during your visit.

This magnificent 18th century house is set within 1000 acres of spectacular landscape including fountains, lakes, temples, woodland, cafes and shops, including a farm shop and garden centre.

Also nearby is Nunnington Hall, a picturesque Yorkshire manor house with an organic garden and it houses the famous Carlisle Collection.

Now an intrinsic part of the house, the Collection is an exhibition of sixteen miniature rooms displaying the most exquisite and detailed instruments, furniture and accessories.

For a truly historic day out, York is easily reached with its many attractions, including the famous Minster, and also within reach are Scarborough, Whitby, Kirkbymoorside and Pickering.

A luxurious holiday home for families or friends with plenty to see and do in the area.
