• "The cottage is in a great location just a few yards from the harbour and the Cod and Lobster Pub."

  It is a lovely cottage and spacious for 4 adults, the kitchen and living room are a good size and well equipped. The ensuite bathroom is need of a bit of tender love and care especially the shower which has some mould on it and a loose door. A couple of towels were grubby and had some staining on them. A little information pack would be handy.

• "We enjoyed a lovely long weekend at Salmon cottage."

  The location is fantastic and the facilities great - especially the comfortable sofas and lovely fire. The hill down to the property is very steep in parts so wouldn’t suit everyone but we didn’t mind it as it provided marvellous views up and down. The Cod and Lobster is also only a stones throw away and served fantastic meals. Would thoroughly recommend.

  We enjoyed our stay very much the property was lovely the only thing was the little garden at back the gate was falling off and it could do with a bit of a makeover we took a little one with us and it would have been nice to let her play in there but really not suitable for that at all but other than that no complaints thankyou so much we would book that one again

• "Fabulous property in a great location."

  The cottage was a very good size and the large kitchen provides a real heart-of-the-home welcome when you go in. Cottage was spotless when we arrived and had all of the amenities that we needed. The village is perfect for a relaxing break and it would be easy to just stay put for the week. The Cod & Lobster is a great pub and we very quickly felt like locals. As there is no parking at the bottom of the village we booked a space for the week with GlenVale at the top of the hill and this meant we had our own allocated space and didn't need to try and find somewhere in the public carpark (which was always very busy). The beach was safe and sandy, there is plenty of space for crabbing and Staithes is a fossil-hunters dream (oh and the ice-cream is delicious).

• "Our second year staying at Salmon Cottage, with next year’s trip already booked!"

  Despite the narrow winding stairs (which are pretty standard in rentals along this part of the coast), the rooms are a good size, with plenty of space for the five of us (four adults and one teenager). While the new chairs in the living room are bizarrely large and very hard, the beds are comfy, the towels are fluffy, and the place is always clean, with a kitchen well-appointed with crockery and gadgets. The Cottage is right in the middle of the village close to the harbour and pub (The Cod & Lobster does a great crab salad!) and, although not suited to those with mobility issues, Staithes is a perfect base to explore along the coast. The village itself also has plenty to see and do, with lots of great places to buy lunch and dinner (including Sea Drift for sausage baps and Cobble cake, and Cobbles for pizza and ice cream). Overall, a highly recommended rental cottage in a beautiful little seaside village.

• "A lovely, cosy, well equipped cottage."

  Conveniently located near to both village pubs and the beach. We have stayed at several Staithes cottages over the years and this was one of the best. Loved the paintings of Staithes in the lounge and the beautiful stained glass in the front door. We booked the cottage partly because of the garden ( we have dogs) but were bemused by the notice in the kitchen about the garden being for humans and not a dog toilet ! I had hoped to do some dog training in the garden. Please lose the weird notice and let dogs play and snuffle around in the garden ! Also the blurb in the cottage said that there is a stair gate, but there isn't. This would have been useful. ( We did creative things with the fire guard !) These are niggles. The cottage was near perfect for us and our dogs !

Sorry if you felt the notice I put up was harsh but I’ve had to clear away multiple dog poops and have tried a more subtle notice without success. • "A lovely period cottage."

  Spacious rooms, comfy beds and seating, great showers. Lots of crockery, pans and utensils in the kitchen, ideal for family breakfasts and dinners around the large table. Ideally situated near the bottom of the village, on the right, close to the harbour and two friendly pubs. An added bonus is the small garden at the rear of the property. The stairs in the cottage are steep as was the hill out of the village but I would recommend this property to anyone without mobility problems. We would definitely look to stay again if we return to Staithes. The only disappointment was that The Old Butchers shop next door was no longer a butchers and now sells locally made fudge!

• "Salmon Cottage is a lovely property."

  .. very spacious and in an excellent location. As other visitors have mentioned, there are a lot of stairs but this wasn't problematic for us, and it's the just the nature of Staithes. We would have appreciated a folder with some tips about how to use the facilities, but found the handbooks in a cupboard and luckily had a 15 year old on hand to sort out the TV! The door key got a bit sticky towards the end of our stay - most likely due to the hot weather - but we eventually managed to work out the knack of getting inside. One thing to mention is that Staithes has no mobile signal, which, due to WiFi in the cottage, wasn't an issue until we were locked out. Overall a great place to visit. Salmon Cottage was a lovely home base from which to explore Staithes and other nearby beaches.

• "We stayed at short notice and were very grateful for the accommodation."

  It would be helpful to have a visitor guide to the property, eg to explain the various tv options (sky, apple) and heating/hot water etc (idiots guide). The toaster seems to trip the electrics and it took a while to locate the fuse box behind the TV . I couldn’t work out how to use the shower in the en-suite as it only ran cold, but as there was another bathroom it wasn’t an issue at all The house is very comfortable and ideally located it was lovely to stay in and would recommend it.

• "Salmon cottage is well situated near the bottom of the beautiful village of Staithes It has lots of space , comfortable sofas and beds Great amenities coffee machine, large fridge freezer washing machine great showers hot water."

  Sky package and board games. The things that let it down for us was the amount of steps leading up to the front door ( no mention) 4 steps (it stated 2 ) up and down from kitchen to living room. The stairs are steep and steps again up to landings nor the steep incline and steps to the back of the cottage for the patio garden the photos are misleading I definitely think salmon cottage is un suitable for elderly or disabled guests. Personally my youngest and I have health problems and struggled with the amount of steps. I wouldn’t have booked salmon cottage if I’d known this. No denying the comfort but the Decor needs freshening up things are looking tired And working in housekeeping myself could have been cleaner especially to say we couldn’t get in the cottage until 5 pm

• "This is a great cottage with plenty of space in all the rooms."

  The beds and furniture are very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. The shower had great water pressure. The kitchen is well equipped. The only item I wanted but couldn't find was a pair of kitchen scissors. The private garden area at the back is a real bonus and we enjoyed sitting out reading and playing Scrabble. We very much recommend this cottage and would definitely book it again, however, there are a lot steps which are quite steep in parts and could be a problem for people with mobility issues. When we arrived there was an old desk, a cantilever table and a travel cot in front of the dustbins which really spoiled the look of the place. The desk and table disappeared over the course of the week enabling the refuse collectors to fortunately empty the dustbins. Someone on a previous review mentioned the seagull mess on the windows. This is a problem on all the buildings and windows in the village and must be a constant issue for owners and residents. The food at the pubs was very good as was our two experiences at Dotty's tearoom. The village is very dog friendly as other reviews have noted and they are welcomed everywhere. Staithes is a beautiful and very special place and provides a unique and relaxing holiday.

• "The property could do with a lick of paint and windows cleaning."

  Thanks for the feedback. The windows are cleaned regularly but as it is a seaside cottage they do get sand on them and as you will have noticed there are lots of seagulls about. The house is also regularly decorated, much more regularly than my own house, due to the wear and tear of having so many guests, the last time was in the lockdown last february. Property Owner

• "Salmon Cottage is perfectly located in the heart of Staithes Harbour."

  The accommodation is very spacious, the kitchen is well equipped and the cottage was warm and snug in February. The two bathrooms are a bonus and the showers worked well. It was lovely to find fresh soft towels and plenty of loo rolls. We would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for spacious accommodation in Staithes.

• "We stayed end December 2022 as this was a carried over booking made for December 2021 which was rolled over due to Tier restrictions."

  We have stayed in many Staithes’ cottages but this is my favourite, spacious and roomy, well appointed, lovely big kitchen and just very comfortable and we immediately felt at home. I had a query and contacted the owner, she was super efficient and friendly and professional to deal with and I will definitely have Salmon Cottage at the top of my list for our next visit to Staithes.

• "We have been to this cottage previously and had no issues."

  However this time we were dissatisfied especially as we were unable to use the log burner as window was missing and our stay was Christmas week where a fire was expected and anticipated. We left messages for the owners and had no response. We contacted the owner prior to enquire if the property would be decorated for Christmas as we were prepared to take our own otherwise and found the owner to be very abrupt. We love Staithes and will use Sykes again but won’t be returning to Salmon cottage following this experience

One of the glasses broke a couple of weeks ago and there has delay on the delivery. The stove is still useable although you need to use the fire guard (in kitchen). I’m afraid I didn’t receive any messages from you. Nothing on my mobile or landline so that is why I didn’t respond. • "Great house with loads of space for a family of 5, hard to find this in Staithes so this is a real treasure."

  This is the best accommodation we have stayed in the last 5yrs of being in Staithes so we’ll done to them. It had all we needed, maybe a nice place to sit out at the front would be good too although the garden is a quiet oasis. Thanks for letting us stay! We usually book a year in advance for every August and would consider Salmon again however for this house in a years time it’s £600 more for nothing added. Greed gone mad, totally disingenuous and not sustainable or worth what’s being offered, we’ve all been through a hard time with Covid but don’t behave like this, the stampede for holidays overseas next year will see your greed repaid with an empty bookings calendar!

• "We had a wonderful time in Staithes with our dogs and the cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed."

  We were so close to the harbour it was a joy walking the dogs there in the early morning before anyone was up. Staithes is on the tourist must visit list so there are a few extra people during the day but at night it is so peaceful and quiet - you will sleep well. A lovely view of the harbour at sunset with a pint at the Cod & Lobster pub is very nice. If you are elderly or infirm it is quite a steep walk to the car park however you can bring the car down to load or unload so go with a fit friend! Highly recommend this cottage and location for a relaxing break. We will definitely return again in future.

• "A lovely setting at the heart of Staithes which was well presented."

  Sara handled our car parking issues really well and was on hand 24/7 for anything which is great from a host. Bedrooms were bright, warm and cosy. There was an issue on the last day in which we were informed by a cleaner that we had to be out by 9.30am yet it states 10am on the booking, perhaps needs confirming? Her attitude was poor and un-friendly and it does not reflect Sara and her amazing cottage which I would book again anytime!

• "We really enjoyed staying Salmon Cottage."

  It was clean, comfortable and had all the facilities we needed.However when we arrived we found that there were no bath towels for use, despite the website stating that bed linen and towels were provided.There was a typewritten information sheet on a notice board,and a hand written addition to this was that due to COVID 19 towels were not provided. While I have no issue with towels not being provided in the current climate, I am disappointed that during the booking process and in the run up to our holiday, there was no indication from Sykes that there was not going to be towels provided, and if we had known we obviously would have brought our own, instead of having to make a round trip of 20 miles on our first night to purchase some towels. Other than that hiccup, we were impressed with Salmon Cottage, happy with all the other pre holiday information, and would happily stay there again
