Owners cottage is actually joined onto the hayloft .no privacy .no parking .get told to move your car constantly by text messages. Lovely location, great sea view from upstairs (although a little dark downstairs). We had some lovely walks along the coast (walking from our holiday home) and drove to several nearby seaside resorts. It was a quiet, relaxing location and easy to park beside the holiday home.

  • "We had a very good holiday."

The cottage was full of character and tastefully decorated, with lovely artwork done by the owner. The views from the upstairs windows were delightful and we loved the wide window sills with ornaments and plants. The upstairs had a very cosy feel and the downstairs kitchen and bathroom was spacious and well equipped. The cottage is in a perfect location for those who enjoy walking and wildlife. The cliffs are a short walk away and we saw lots of birds, hares and deer. Unfortunately there was a problem with the heating and hot water (a new system has recently been installed), but the owner was very helpful and tried very hard to get it resolved, although this proved difficult. However, despite this we hope to return in the future as we liked the cottage and the area very much.

  • "Had a really lovely week at The Hayloft."

This property is in a great location for visiting the local area . We walked the Cleveland way to Scarborough, cycled to Ravenscar. Bought the original smoked kippers in Whitby , found fossils in staithes . Due to Covid 19 rules the local pubs were closed and although we managed to eat out a few times we mainly cooked at the cottage . It had a pantry full of every kind of pot and pans etc. Lovely to wake up and see the sun glistening on the sea every morning was a definite bonus . We had a heating / boiler problem over the bank holiday weekend. We called the owner who swiftly got the problem solved that afternoon. We really loved staying at this cottage and is great value for money . Would highly recommend.

Its your job to see all the details and expectations are correct. The Cottage is advertised elsewhere anyway. The Cottage was compact, warm and comfortable, the views amazing, the Art Work an unexpected pleasure. Perhaps a plumper Cushion on the Settee would be good. The Cinder Track was near, buses ran frequently between Scarborough and Whitby. All in all an excellent place to stay. Would recommend to Friends and Family, and even return for a Chill out time. WiFi would be helpful for those who do not have Posh phones

There is now a high fence around the property resulting in a small patio which does not appear on the photo. There is also a a very large and noisy Thermo V LG heating/water heater in the patio which was constantly on and off all day resulting in an unpleasant ambiance on the patio.

There was plenty of local information in the form of books, and the owner was always available to give advice on local things. The paintings and art creations were of the highest quality. The only downside was that the bedroom was upstairs but the toilet was downstairs. This could cause a problem for the elderly or the disabled. perhaps this could be made clear on the description of the property. However I would certainly recommend this cottage for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Thank you.

The property

This lovely cottage is set in a peaceful and tranquil location, next to the owner's home, on the outskirts of Cloughton, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park.

This delightful cottage has been creatively converted to provide the perfect romantic hideaway for couples, yet just a few minutesÂ’ drive from the popular coastal resort of Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and Scarborough.

Originally the end-section (Hayloft and barn) of an ancient longhouse, this charming studio-style stone cottage has cosy and quirky accommodation over two floors.

Upstairs, there is a light and spacious open plan living area, with a double bed tucked up against the wall and a comfortable sofa and chair to relax in.

From the windows are superb views over the beautiful open countryside and the sea.

With a lovely homely feel, there are lots of little extras, including original artwork on the walls and carved polished driftwood.

On the ground floor is a bright and cheerful rustic style kitchen, with painted panelled walls and cupboards and a timber floor.

Entry to the property is from the rear, across a small lawn to a flagged private patio; ideal for a morning coffee in the sunshine, before heading out for the day.

From the cottage, there are excellent walking and cycling opportunities, with the 23 mile Cinder Track just down the road and the clifftop Cleveland Way trail just a few minutesÂ’ walk away.

The seaside town of Scarborough has much to offer, with its sandy beaches, castle ruins, pretty gardens and seafront cafes and restaurants.

Enjoy a lovely walk from North Bay to South Bay along the promenade, or book an evening at the renowned Stephen Joseph Theatre in the Round.

With the spectacular scenery of the North York Moors to explore, plus Whitby and quaint coastal villages such as Robin Hood's Bay to visit, guests will be delighted to stay in this charming cottage at any time of the year.

About the location

CLOUGHTON

Scarborough 4.8 miles; Ravenscar 6.3 miles; Robin Hood's Bay 11.6 miles; Whitby 14.8 miles.

Cloughton lies just under five miles north of Scarborough, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Home to old cottages lining the main street and more modern developments behind, the village boasts an eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional to bring a charming atmosphere to all its visitors, as well as offering a welcoming farm shop where you can pick up any essentials and two pubs on the main street and two on the outskirts. Close by is the popular 'Cinder Track', a disused 23 mile long railway track, that's now used for walking, cycling and horse riding. There is easy access to the Cleveland Way, a long distance trail that hugs the cliff top as it winds its way to Hayburn Wyke, a rocky cove with a waterfall and inn, Robin Hood's Bay and beyond to the north and south to Scarborough. Popular since Victorian times, this vibrant seaside town of Scarborough retains many of its original fine buildings, parks and gardens, as well as its historic castle which overlooks the town. North Bay and South Bay provide two superb stretches of beautiful, golden sandy beaches, popular with families and small children. There are a number of child-friendly activities and many excellent visitor attractions for grown-ups too, including the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough Spa and Scarborough Open Air Theatre for live music. There are plenty of outdoor activities within easy reach too, with golf courses, coastal walks along the Cleveland Way, stunning cycle routes such as the old railway to Whitby, beautiful sailing and championship quality surfing, offering something for every taste. Ideally situated for touring both the coast and countryside, Cloughton is an ideal base for a fun-filled break at any time of year.
