  • "A lovely property set in a great village location with a warm welcoming pub across the road and close to lovely places to walk or visit by car or bus nearby."

The Cottage was clean and comfortable and was well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The double bed in the main bedroom needs replacing and is dipping in the middle and was very uncomfortable however as there was just the 2 of us staying we were able to relocate to the second bedroom where the beds were fine. The only other thing to be aware of is the road noise. It is very loud. The small courtyard garden was lovely but realistically unuseable due to the volume of traffic which was extremely noisy.. We stayed at the end of Summer so didn't need to have windows open. If you were looking to stay when hot and needed to have windows open you would struggle with road noise.

Quite noisy due to the busy road and parking difficult as people putting cones out to stop you parking - nice cosy cottage though but would have been quite squashed if we had had 4 of us - tiny garden which looked bigger in the pictures - we had a nice stay overall and good location for walking and visiting coastal towns

  • "The communication from Sykes Cottages prior to our stay was really helpful."

Although the cottage is situated outside of Scarborough, it's really handy for Whitby and other main tourist attractions. There is a handy field nearby for dogs. The cottage is adjacent to a busy road, it didn't really bother us. Parking can potentially be an issue but we found a space. The owners were very friendly and helpful and we were greeted with a gift and basics to get started with which was nice, thank you.

  • "A homely, tasteful and comfortably furnished cottage in a pretty village, with two very nice pubs on the doorstep."

Very handy for Scarborough and Whitby. All the amenities were as expected and lots of thoughtful extra touches. Warm, welcoming and very comfortable to relax in after long coastal or moorland walks. Very enjoyable stay and would be very pleased to visit again

Thank you for your kind feedback. So glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back again. Property Owner

  • "We had an enjoyable stay at 2 church cottages."

The cottage was lovely and clean and had everything you could need. The cottage was a perfect location for exploring the local areas and had some nice personal touches such as the dog bowls and treats and milk for when we arrived. The property was perfect for our family holiday. There was a leaky tap which had been reported a few days earlier and fixed promptly. The only thing we would say is it should maybe state on the details of the cottage that the garden is shared as with having a dog this information would be useful. Possibly a list of local takeaways or supermarket or local shop would have been handy to. We had such a lovely stay and we are already looking at booking again for next year. Many thanks.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay! I only took ownership of the property in June and there is a scheme of works lined up for winter that will see the point about the gardens addressed for the coming season. I will update the information folder in the property to include the omissions! I look forward to welcoming you back in the future! Property Owner

  • "Very difficult to find with sat nav as post code covers miles."

would only need a small fence to avoid neighbours dogs fighting with each other as you carnt let the dog out in the night at the back very busy road. if a small fence was fitted would love to return.

Thank you for your feedback. I only took ownership of the property at the start of June and there is a scheme of works lined up for the winter inclusive of some adjustments to the gardens to address the point you raised. I look forward to welcoming you back again in the future! Property Owner

About the location

CLOUGHTON

Scarborough 4.8 miles; Ravenscar 6.3 miles; Robin Hood's Bay 11.6 miles; Whitby 14.8 miles.

Cloughton lies just under five miles north of Scarborough, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Home to old cottages lining the main street and more modern developments behind, the village boasts an eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional to bring a charming atmosphere to all its visitors, as well as offering a welcoming farm shop where you can pick up any essentials and two pubs on the main street and two on the outskirts. Close by is the popular 'Cinder Track', a disused 23 mile long railway track, that's now used for walking, cycling and horse riding. There is easy access to the Cleveland Way, a long distance trail that hugs the cliff top as it winds its way to Hayburn Wyke, a rocky cove with a waterfall and inn, Robin Hood's Bay and beyond to the north and south to Scarborough. Popular since Victorian times, this vibrant seaside town of Scarborough retains many of its original fine buildings, parks and gardens, as well as its historic castle which overlooks the town. North Bay and South Bay provide two superb stretches of beautiful, golden sandy beaches, popular with families and small children. There are a number of child-friendly activities and many excellent visitor attractions for grown-ups too, including the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough Spa and Scarborough Open Air Theatre for live music. There are plenty of outdoor activities within easy reach too, with golf courses, coastal walks along the Cleveland Way, stunning cycle routes such as the old railway to Whitby, beautiful sailing and championship quality surfing, offering something for every taste. Ideally situated for touring both the coast and countryside, Cloughton is an ideal base for a fun-filled break at any time of year.
