  • "We really enjoyed our stay at the Cottage."

Its location is great almost next door the the North Yorkshire Moors Centre at Sutton Bank. Need to be careful locating the cottage on the online map as the position is misleading - this needs to be adjusted on the map to place it in the farm rather than over and up the road where I wound up initially. It is on the left at the first gate you come to past the Centre. There was a nice welcome pack and fresh cakes awaiting us on arrival. The welcome pack lasted us all week. One issue we found as doddery old folk: the bath/shower was difficult to get into when your body is not a agile as it used to be, it is also quite slippery in the bath and on the floor on entry and exit. When we met a problem with the TV, the response to the telephone call was almost instant. Thank you for a great stay. The location was ideal for visiting so much of North Yorkshire.

Thank you for the lovely review. As much as I’d love to take the credit, I have to confess though, it was Craig who baked the cakes! Look forward to seeing you again. Liz Property Owner

  • "8/10 overall."

An excellent cottage in a good location, easy to get too but the long private drive really needed some repairs as my wife's mobility scooter could not get down the drive to the road. Cleanliness was perfect with good facilities and crockery. The lemon drizzle cakes were to die for BTW. The only downside inside, was the low settee that had seen some use and the lack of cupboard space to put food away, along with the very small food preperation area. Otherwise this would score a 10 out of 10.

  • "Oh what bliss!"

The Hambleton hills are a wonderful location, and the Cottage was just perfect as a base. I've probably been to North Yorkshire twenty or so times and here was by far the best. Nestled beside Kevin Ryan's horse gallop, the views across the moors were amazing. It's an ideal base if you enjoy walking/hiking. Poppy, my 13 year old Labrador clocked up around 14 miles throughout the week, while I managed over 50. Thirsk and Helmsley are only 6 miles away, with Byland and Rievaulx Abbeys even closer. The cottage is warm and cosy. My first night in the large bed was very comfortable and reminded me that I definitely need a new mattress at home. Everything you would need for a holiday could be found in the cottage. My planned healthy week away started badly due to the delicious lemon sponge cakes that the owner had left as a welcome present. (Thank you Liz). I'm not sure when, but I will be going back. The Cottage has everything you need for a perfect, relaxing holiday.

Thank you Lance, so glad you enjoyed your stay, look forward to seeing you again. Liz & Craig Property Owner

I needed to find somewhere for just two nights to break our journey home and I could not have chosen a lovelier spot. Liz was fantastic making sure the lights and heating were on for our arrival. There was even a Christmas tree and very tasteful decorations. To top that she had left us cupcakes, biscuits and a welcome pack!! What more could anyone ask for!? The cottage is in a wonderful spot and I am looking forward to making another visit for longer!!

  • "Wonderful clean cottage."

I was welcomed by host with a brief chat and left to myself for rest of week wihout being disturbed. Views were tremendous in a superb location, with so many options for activities. The cottage had a very comfy bed and some cakes and basket of goodies to welcome me. Was quiet and secure. Just what I wanted. One of the days I cycled to top of Black Hanbleton and another day up the same track but to the escarpment. Naturally an afternoon stroll to White horse from the cottage and trips to Helmsley and Osmotherly area. I was a little lazy and often returned at noon to watch the smart tv and do some laptop work. The Wifi kep up most of the times but did go off sometimes - about 0.5% down. No worries there. I will return as so much more to do. I am in recovery after recent heart attack so did not do as much as I wanted to do.

Unfortunately this time there wasnt a tray, sharp veg knife, bread knife, salt, sugar, very little wasing up liquid and kitchen roll so had to buy our own. Saw the owner for probably 5 minutes on arrival but didnt check later if we had everything we needed which i think would have been good. The cottage itself was nice and location was beautiful but felt a little disappointed compared to last year when our Sykes cottage was stunning.

  • "The cottage was lovely and clean and tidy in beautiful surroundings but it was a bit too far out to be able to walk to local facilities."

Also the outside of the cottage was a let down. The garden furniture is in need of renovation and the fish pond was dirty and in need of a lot of care and attention as it is a feature of the garden. There wasn’t anywhere comfortable to sit outside and enjoy the view. Disappointed the owner did not check everything was ok . Having said that we enjoyed the holiday.

There was also a plentiful supply of sugar, tea and coffee sachets, plus some little pots of jams etc. The views from the cottage are exceptional and one can see all the surrounding countryside due to the high location. There is plenty of parking space. From the details we had the Cottage was not easy to find because we did not have the name of the farm and did not ask for it when we spoke to the owner. However, when you have the name of the farm and know that it is just around the corner from the North York Moors Visitor Centre, it is easy. A few extra mugs and a teapot would be useful, albeit we had taken a teapot luckily.

We included the coastal beauty of Staithes, Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay on one day. Castle Howard another great attraction within just a few miles. I was very surprised by the World of James Herriot At Thirsk, it was far more than I had expected from what just looked like an ordinary terrace house. Helmsley just down the road has always been favourite visiting spot.
