  • "Beautiful cottage with an amazing garden which we really enjoyed as the weather was so good."

Easy roadside parking, comfortable furnishings and good mattresses. A couple of points for improvements, the blinds in the main bedroom were ill-fitting and would benefit from being replaced be with black-out blinds. Also the welcome pack was very basic compared to other properties we've booked. Disappointed not to have fresh milk provided, we arrived around 9.30pm after a 4 hour drive and had to go straight out to get some.

  • "Over all good, but just a few improvements required."

Shower cubicle needs attention also lots of cobwebs. Master bedroom blinds need repairing.

  • "Thyme Cottage is in a fantastic location, less than a 5 minute walk to Helmsley town center and the wonderful shops."

The cottage is well appointed and we found it very comfortable. The weather was nice so we sat in the garden as much as possible (it's an outstanding garden). Upon arrival, we had a few questions, called the phone number and got a quick and satisfactory response. I'd certainly stay again. It was a wonderful week.

  • "This was our second stay at Thyme Cottage, we absolutely loved it again."

It’s in a great location. Parking is across the road which is perfect. The garden is one of the nicest gardens i’ve seen, just stunning. Thyme cottage is a real home from home and for me personally, a fabulous opportunity to stay in a home, i couldn’t possibly afford and in a location that is out of my price range. I would love to live in Helmsley, it’s heaven.

  • "This was the 1st cottage we've stayed at where there was not even 1 toilet roll to start us off, no washing up liquid or dish cloth, fortunately we had taken some but some people probably don't and it's not the best welcome !"

Also the bins were full with numerous full loose bin bags, again not a welcome start, I did contact the number provided but nothing was done and I had noticed this complaint on previous reviews , again obviously ignored ! We ended uo taking all the bottles, tins etc to recycling point ourselves so rather annoying !

  • "Lovely cottage comfortable and homely, good sized rooms and just a short walk to facilities."

Beautiful garden which we enjoyed as the weather was gloriously kind to us. On the downside we would have liked spare toilet rolls (we had to buy some) and it seemed odd there was no kitchen towel, we could have done with it and a hair dryer would have been useful but on the whole these were small things that we may have been spoilt by before having had them in previous cottages.

A hairdryer would have been useful

  • "A super cottage, roomy and comfortable."

Facilities modern and clean. Could not take advantage of the garden as it was winter when we stayed. Excellent location for walking in to town.

  • "Beautiful cottage, lovely stay over Xmas."

Two points - the rubbish. When we arrived it was dark, if it hadn't been for family who lived in the village, we would not have realised it was bottle/glass collection the following day. The receptacle was full when we got there and rubbish collection was about 5am! So good job we had some local knowledge as we wouldn't have looked in the garden until daylight ! The black rubbish bin was full when we got there and there were numerous bags of rubbish alongside it. It clearly hadn't been put out for collection for some time. We were not there for a rubbish collection either. The postbox was full. We met the postman and he said he can't get any more post in! Clearly these issues need to be addressed by someone local. Also leaving us only a fifth of a toilet roll is a bit mean! First trip to the shop as soon as we arrived after 5pm to get some toilet roll! We've left plenty for the next guests. All minor things for us, as we found the cottage to be fabulous.

Convenient for local amenities and walks. We have detailed to the owners one or two items which we believe will further improve people’s stay at the cottage. We are more than happy to return to Thyme Cottage.

Lying in a sheltered corner of Upper Ryedale, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, Helmsley is a prestigious market town with a spacious market square surrounded by houses, hotels and shops. The area is important historically - Helmsley has its own 12th century castle and English Heritage’s Rievaulx Abbey and Castle Howard are close by.
