The property

Resting in the centre of the lively market town of Helmsley, North Yorkshire, is Thyme Cottage, a picture-perfect cottage boasting original beams and a stunning garden perfect for spending summer evenings in.

Ideal for two couples, this delightful cottage offers amenities within walking distance and the magnificent city of York and seaside town of Scarborough are within easy reach by car.

Stepping into the property, the sitting room boasts an original wooden beamed ceiling, an adorable bay window seat and a charming fireplace with a woodburning stove which you can look forward to cosying up in front of after a long day of exploring the local area.

Sink into the sofas with your loved one to watch the TV before making your way to the kitchen to whip up a tasty dinner.

The farmhouse-style kitchen/diner is home to a range of appliances including an electric double oven and an induction hob.

Sit down as a group to enjoy your meals at the dining table and as the evening draws to a close, climb the stairs to the bedrooms to rest your eyes ahead of another busy day of exploring.

The first floor hosts two light and airy double bedrooms, one with en suite, both complete with plush beds and plenty of storage for your belongings.

Indulge in a bubble bath with a good book after a day of adventures; the bathroom is tastefully decorated with a luxurious décor and fitted with a lovely roll-top bath, a basin and WC so the group can freshen up and prepare for the day ahead.

Step outside and take advantage of the picturesque garden; the multi-level outdoor space is home to a lawn with a summer house, a patio with dining furniture, and carefully-kept flowers and shrubbery creating a private and luscious space for dining al fresco or savouring a glass of wine as the sun goes down.

If you don't fancy cooking one evening, venture into the town centre for a meal at one of many restaurants in the area; for delicious Italian cuisine why not visit La Trattoria, or if afternoon tea is more your style, take a trip to the quaint Castlegate Tearoom.

There are plenty of attractions in the local area, including Helmsley Castle, a 900 year old castle right on the doorstep to this bustling town.

Another nearby attraction is the Helmsley Walled Garden, attractive gardens sitting beneath the castle ruins where you can explore the glasshouses and apple orchards before stopping for a spot of lunch and a slice of scrumptious homemade cake at the café.

Take a day trip to the glorious city of York, home to the magnificent York Minster and surrounding city walls, along with a great selection of shops, pubs, restaurants, and attractions for all ages, making it well worth the scenic drive.

Spend a day at the coast; Scarborough makes for a relaxing day out for the whole group, here animal lovers can discover SEA LIFE Scarborough, or you can spend the afternoon building sandcastles and wandering the promenade with a fish and chip lunch before making your way back to your home away from home.

Enjoy a refreshing break with your loved ones any time of year at Thyme Cottage.

About the location

HELMSLEY

Kirkbymoorside 6 miles; Thirsk 14 miles; Pickering 13 miles; York 26 miles.

Lying in a sheltered corner of Upper Ryedale, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, Helmsley is a prestigious market town with a spacious market square surrounded by houses, hotels and shops. The area is important historically - Helmsley has its own 12th century castle and English Heritage’s Rievaulx Abbey and Castle Howard are close by. Helmsley also boasts an arts centre showing films and plays, and an outdoor swimming pool, which is open during the summer. There is excellent walking on the doorstep - indeed the Cleveland Way starts in Helmsley - and the surrounding North York Moors with their hidden dales and villages are pretty in all seasons. York is less than an hour's drive south, as is Scarborough, Whitby and the east coast, whilst Pickering and the beginning of the famous steam railway line (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) are a little over 20 minutes' drive.
