  • "Elmwood Cottage is a lovely place to stay."

The property itself is very comfortable and beautifully designed. Communication beforehand from the owners was excellent and included very useful directions. We didn't need to contact them whilst we were there but would have felt comfortable doing so if we'd needed to. The cottage had everything we needed for a self catering holiday. Although we didn't need it the EV charging point is a good thing to see. The location is excellent with some good walks direct from the cottage as well as easy access to the coast and the countryside. We hope to return next year.

Thank you for your feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Property Owner

Saltburn and Staithes well worth a visit and also Ormesby Hall. Great Ayton has everything you need and a brilliant fish and chip shop, along with a good selection of cafes. Looking forward to returning soon.

  • "Really enjoyed my stay at this lovely, peaceful and comforatble cottage."

The hosts were helpful when needed and provided local information. I loved the cottage setting and also the ability to do some walks directly from the door. A great place to stay to explore this really beautiful area.

  • "The cottage is very comfortable and cosy and the owners kind and helpful."

There is everything one could need The nearby villages of Great and Little Ayton have everything one requires and the Velveteen Rabbit cafe has superb cakes. Sadly, outside space is limited which is why I only gave the cottage 4 stars. The electric car charger will be a boon for the up to date motorist!

..beautiful places to visit not far away. Facilities in the cottage were great, and owners were available when we needed advice about heating.

  • "A clean and comfortable cottage in a nice quiet rural location."

Reasonably spaceous rooms. Adjacent to another cottage that sleeps 6 and had three couples with separate cars during the first two days which made parking and turning around challenging in the limited space. The cottage is slightly let down by rather basic appliances and the noisiest fridge/freezer we have ever encountered!

About the location

GREAT AYTON

Stokesley 3 miles; Guisborough 7 miles; Middlesbrough 8 miles.

The attractive village of Great Ayton lies on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, at the foot of the Cleveland Hills. Great Ayton is famous for being the boyhood home of Captain Cook, and is also mentioned in the Domesday Book. The village consists of a mixture of pretty stone cottages and some new development housing. Great Ayton has two village greens, with a river running alongside, making it a popular picnic spot in the summer months. To the north of the village, the view is dominated by Roseberry Topping, a 330-metre hill. In the village are a good range of shops and inns, which, together with restaurants and cafes, cater well for holidaymakers. There is also the old school, now converted into the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum. Around the village are several interesting walks, and Great Ayton makes a great base for walkers wishing to explore the stunning countryside. A good base for market towns, the lovely countryside and, just a short drive, the East Coast.
