  • "We absolutely loved our stay at Swallow Cottage."

We wanted somewhere quiet for NYE as our dog is extremely frightened of fireworks. This location was ideal. So peaceful. Lucky enough to see Barn Owls flying during the day. Swallow Cottage is ideally placed for trips to Staithes, Runswick Bay and Saltburn. It was lovely to meet Paul, the owner, who was around if needed. Thanks for the bottle of wine by the way. Hoping to book again later in the year if our plans work out. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

How host was a true gentleman and he left us a welcome pack of eggs, bread, milk, tea and coffee. Which I must say was very welcome after a long journey. We were also welcomed by 2 dogs and 5 chickens which was delightful. I can’t recommend this cottage enough if you’re looking for peace and quiet this is for you. We where blessed with beautiful weather so was able to see the fantastic North Yorkshire countryside and it’s amazing coast.

  • "A cute little cottage, ideal for two who would like the peacefulness of the surroundings."

Ideal to come home to after a day out. No traffic noise just the very occasional tractor, as you would expect deep in the countryside. We were supplied with a welcome pack of eggs (from the farm chickens) milk, bread, tea, coffee etc. There are five chickens which will greet you in the mornings (no cockerel) and any time you happen to be outside. The owner was very friendly and helpful.

Location wise was fantastic for us as we packed so much in to explore & so during our short stay. Little touches such as having tea/coffee/milk/bread/butter/jam & fresh eggs from the friendly chickens made it perfect after a long journey to dig into. The cottage literally had everything you needed to feel like home away from home with our two dogs who made some great friends during our stay such as the chickens, ducks & Paul’s two wonderful dogs little teddy & the gorgeous female pointer (sorry cannot remember her name!) & lastly not to mention the hospitality Paul provided overall. We will certainly be back.

We were made to feel very welcome and although small it had everything that we needed. It was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. Loved the outside space and the chickens roaming free in the lovely gardens. Thanks also for the welcome pack, the eggs were delicious. I would definitely return to this property as it was so peaceful and relaxing. I feel this cottage could be enhanced by having a bathroom heater installed and a lovely stable door would have been perfect for enjoying those views over breakfast. Thanks for a wonderful week.

  • "The property was as described and was spotlessly clean."

It is very small, but has about everything you would need. Paul, the owner and his son, Jacob are both very helpful and friendly and we were made more than welcome. There was a lovely welcome pack of eggs, bread and milk, jam, and biscuits, and we had lovely plums and apples from the trees. Very dog friendly and our dog had freedom to roam the grounds. He only jumped in the pond once! There is no enclosed garden, which might be an issue for some dog owners, but there's lots of outdoor space and it's very quiet and peaceful. There are also free-range chickens, which are very friendly. The property is reached down a very narrow single track country lane, but isn't far from Staithes. A lovely, quiet romantic place.

Thankyou so much for your kind feedback much appreciated! :) Property Owner

About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
