  • "We had a lovely week and extended our stay by three extra nights as we were having such a lovely time."

It was wonderful to see the sea and beach every day on waking, very therapeutic. The lounge was very comfortable to relax in each evening. The beds were extremely comfortable and the bedrooms very spacious. We sat out and had breakfast outside which was a bonus. We are looking forward to returning again. Came home feeling refreshed after such a lovely holiday.

  • "We have stayed in this property several times mainly due to its location close to the beach."

We were happy with the property. However our issue was that in both the main property bedroom and the annex bedroom the curtains were very light and thin which meant that each morning the light streamed in waking us in the very early hours. We requested that black out blinds be fitted. This was on this general feed back site and via emails to your office. This was also requested by another guest. The owner decided to fit blinds to the main bedroom property but not the annex saying the annex did not get early morning sunlight. We begged to differ as we had stayed in the property 3 times by then. Therefore when we arrived in early September 2023 we had the same problem with the annex, again spoiling our time there. We feel this needs to be rectified if we are to stay again. It seems such a small issue which could be resolved quickly. Thankyou

  • "We have stayed in this property on several occasions as it is very close to the beach in Sandsend and has a parking bay."

We first stayed in early 2021 and visited again at the end of August 2021. We had a lovely time there but highlighted a couple of concerns. We wanted to feed these concerns back as we felt this is a terrific property and the stay could have been enhanced so much more with just a few little amendments. We made a suggestion to put black out blinds in the main double bedroom and the annex as the sunlight woke us up very early, it was lovely to get such nice weather! We also mentioned the tap in the garden decking area which is to be used to clean up after visiting the beach before entering into the property. When we were there in June the water had built up as there is no grid. We really enjoyed our stay but we would really have benefitted from the suggested black out blinds as we were woken up again this year again with the sunlight at 6am so felt tired in the day.. I think other people have also made this suggestion. We are due back in September and it would be great if the property could have some black out blinds. many thanks Bernadette

  • "The listing stated that it was all on one level but the decking wasnt."

Having to use a walking stick made it difficult. The decking needs attention as parts of it are breaking up especially near the beach hut suite and the garden furniture could have been made more comfortable as some of the chairs would not stay in an upright position. The property itself had everything you would need and was very comfortable. The one thing that spoilt it for us was the noise of the traffic on a very busy road.

  • "Great location in the centre of the village, across the road from the beach and close to pub and cafes."

Shame the local village grocery store has now closed which was a handy short walk away for topping up supplies, although there are supermarkets in Whitby. The flat has recently been refurbished/redecorated and the interior is tastefully & well presented. Great to have some outside space with terrace, table and chairs. Well equipped kitchen (although would be tight for 6 people) and comfortable beds and sofas. The main road runs very close to property and traffic is noisy at times. although this did not really bother us. The main bedroom would benefit from blackout curtains, as window is east facing and light steams in at dawn. Enjoyed our stay and hope to return sometime.

The cottage was really lovely. I would recommend fixing the bathroom toilet flush it is a little bit broken. The boiler also makes a really loud noise when turning the kitchen tap on in the sink. These are small observations that would make people’s stay better, but overall it was fab.

  • "We stayed at East Row lodge in early June and enjoyed the stay as we knew Sandsend really well having stayed many times."

We completed the feedback section when we got back but put this in the hide option as we felt we wanted the owners to have a chance to rectify some concerns we had as overall we had really enjoyed our stay. We were back again at this property at the end of August and found that the concerns had not been dealt with and on looking at the feedback saw that other customers had similar concerns. We wanted to feed these concerns back as we felt this is a terrific property and the stay could have been enhanced so much more with just a few little amendments. Firstly, the toilet in the bathroom had a faulty flush button and when turning the hot taps on in the property the boiler made a very loud noise suggesting maybe air in the system. Secondly we made a suggestion to put black out blinds in the main double bedroom and the annex as the sunlight woke us up very early, it was lovely to get such nice weather! Finally, we mentioned the tap in the garden decking area which is to be used to clean up after visiting the beach before entering into the property. When we were there in June the water had built up as there is no grid and had become stagnant, as it was very warm there were flies hovering over it. A few minor points - there were 2 beach chairs when we visited in June but these were missing in August? The locks on both the main property and the annex could do with oiling. The induction hob was difficult to get on as there was not an instruction to get the safety lock off but thank haven for google! In June we did leave a phone charger plugged into the hall socket but when we reported this we were told it was not there, this was disappointing as we clearly remember where it was. We really enjoyed our stay in the property and it is a great location for the beach and also has a premium parking spot which is a real bonus. We would like to stay there again but the property is looking a bit tired in real life so could do with a little spruce up which would be fantastic! Also these concerns we think would be covered by the maintenance of the property so not difficult to rectify.

We will send that over rather than write it all in here - but in short the property is tired and badly maintained, was poorly cleaned, didn’t have the stated beach chairs and nothing was done to help when we asked for them.

  • "The location, decor and space were very good."

Unfortunately this could not be said of the bathroom facilities. We had specifically chosen this property because of the three bathrooms but two were not fully operational. The bathroom in the garden annex had no hot water for either the washbasin or the shower resulting in one couple having to endure cold showers for the whole week. The family bathroom serving the twin single bedroom had a broken toilet flush mechanism, necessitating the use of one of the en-suite toilets. Despite reporting these issues at the earliest opportunity, nothing was fixed during our stay. Considering the price paid, I find this totally unacceptable as we did not receive the facilities promised.

  • "Overall, the holiday let was comfortable with great location opposite the beach which was wonderful for early morning coffee's and to watch the day start up."

However, I would like to mention a couple of items that could make the stay even better. The hot water system gave out loud rattling noises when hot water used either in showers or sinks (from both our apartment and one above us) which was very annoying when it happened at all times during the day or night. Athough we were fortunate to have such lovely sunny weather during our stay, the curtains in the front double bedroom were not sufficient to block out the morning sun which resulted in us being woken up at sunrise (~04.30) each morning with the new day's sunshine streaming in. Overall, the property was spacious for the four of us and provided all the amenities that we required. Parking space was as described but with some juggling we were able to fit two large size vehicles in with just a little overhang on footpath. Thankyou for turning on the beautiful summer weather for us and showing off North Yorkshire coastline in all its glory! Chris

Yorkshire Coast/Moors. Fine location overlooking the sea with a good pub and a couple of restaurants a few minutes walk away. A174 goes right past, but we weren't troubled by traffic noise. Kitchen/dining room well equipped, but very cramped for 4 of us and would be really difficult for 6. Ceramic hob we found to be very temperamental. Beds and bedding superb - slept like logs! Bedroom curtains really need to be more opaque, though, as, being east-facing, the morning sun pours through them and wakes you up - in May that was 5am!

  • "We had a great week at East Row Lodge, we are a couple and enjoyed the Master Bedroom, with comfy bed and hotel style bedding, and used the family bathroom for the nice large bath tub."

We did not use or access the beach hut bedroom so can not comment. The house is everything it says it is in the description and is right on the beach ...fantastic ...yes the road is between the house and the beach but we didn't mind that at all.......the location of the house is AMAZING for beach access at low and high tide ...........and the road is fairly quiet at night. The village is lovely and has everything you need ...we did not visit a super market once but instead foraged in the local shop for locally sourced cheese, baked goods and salads ...oh and they sell Whitby Gin and make great coffee. Both beach cafes are brill and the garden fish and chip cafe is a pure delight ......we are lunch at the pub too and enjoyed sitting al fresco .... The house is ideal for 2-4 adults and 2 younger kids as the kitchen is quite tight to seat 6 adults and cook at same time BUT if weather is good the garden area is great for eating out in and we loved sitting having breakfast each morning ..........so plenty of space for 6 adults outside :) We have already recommended the house to friends and were very sad to leave ...we could have done a second week ...it is delightful - thank you

  • "East Row Lodge is a comfortable place to stay in."

The kitchen is well equipped although it is difficult to turn on the induction hob. It's nice and light, spacious and has everything you need. The lack of TV's and any form of music is dis sappointing. Outside the seating area has great views of the sea and plenty of seating. There's no bbq area which is a shame and the garden needs some tlc. One other thing to note is, as its right upto the pavement, there's zero privacy from people passing constantly. We would however consider staying there again.

Great location just across the road from the beach in Sandsend. Close to a nice cafe and very good restaurant. Car parking space a big bonus. The apartment was lovely, very comfortable everything you would need. Lovely dining kitchen and a big lounge all with Sea views which we enjoyed. Master bedroom lovely again with sea views with a great en-suite wet room. Only small negatives are the very loud noises when you use the hot water and I think the curtains in the main bedroom need to be blackout as the traffic at night continues on the road so you get a lot of light coming in. We really loved our stay and would go back.

  • "Unfortunately I have to say we were disappointed with east row lodge."

From the pictures, the reviews and the price we had a level of expectation that was certainly not met. One review mentioned a welcome pack. We never got one. Unless it was the dirty towel that was left hanging on the door to the twin room, presumably from the previous guests. Not great during the Covid era. The house is starting to look weary and the “dining area”, as someone has mentioned, is not comfortable for 6 (and 2 of us were children). The parking for 2 is parking for one and a half. One of our cars had its rear jutting out onto the pathway all week. This made for tense times for the owner of that vehicle due to the number of pedestrians and buggy’s walking past it all day. The outside area is looking tired. And with the wheelie bin right next to the seating area and no where else it can really go that doesn’t lend itself to the idyllic morning brew in the sun imagery. Although in a great location, just by the beach, my sister went on her holiday to France at the same time and had a massive villa that hosts 12 with a private pool, pool table, table tennis, table football, massive fireplace and amazing views. The whole thing cost less than East Row lodge. You can’t tell from the photos exactly what you’re getting but compared to the numerous holiday cottages we have been to, unfortunately you are not getting what you pay for.

  • "We enjoyed our stay in East Row Lodge, very nice."

Areas for improvement? The Kitchen/Diner is very small, squeezing 6 people in there is a challenge! Would be much better if there was a separate dining room. We know this is not possible in the space available. The chalet room on the patio is also small, not great if you are the couple to get this, seeing the others in relative luxury in the main apartment. The internal pipework/plumbing needs attention. Some awful noises when you turn some taps on. Easily sorted with a decent plumber? Car parking is a challenge with 2 cars, especially the larger ones. Busy road between the apartment and the cars and beach. great care needed if you have little ones. Otherwise fine, great location.

Children will enjoy damming the little beck where it crosses the beach to form a freshwater lagoon - great (and safe) for paddling and boating! For the more energetic the village sits on the lovely long distance Cleveland Way Trail, which offers great off-road cycling along the disused coastal railway as well as breathtaking clifftop walks. The National Trust now own the nearby headland, Sandsend Ness, where there is a delightful nature trail in the old quarry pits. A special place offering something for everyone!
