    What let it down was that the carpets were well worn and dirty and in need of replacing. The house needs a coat of paint. We still enjoyed our stay.

    That the garden was very overgrown when we arrived on our first day and he allegedly attended once but refused to mow the lawn as he claimed there was dog faeces on the lawn. We ensured the lawn was clear every day and awaited the gardener to mow the lawn so we could sit outside in what was lovely weather. Sadly however the gardener never came back. Given how long the grass was its doubtful he had been for many weeks. Shame as if it was better kept it would be a nicer space. 2. The wifi code wasn't provided at the property anywhere and because there was no mobile signal at all at the house one is reliant on communications from the wifi. However the code on the rear of the hub isnt the right one, and there was no other note left at the property for the wifi code so it was impossible to connect to wifi. Several attempts to communicate with Yorkshire Cottages to resolve the issue wasn't successful (we got emails with new codes but none worked on any device - the correct wifi code clearly wasn't available to the management agency looking after the property), and frustratingly we called and emailed severally during the week (having had to go into Whitby to get a signal!) and yet after our return Sykes claimed to have sent someone - not having told us anyone was coming and to be in for them to come! Such a shame as the house is so lovely and the place is idyllic. Well equipped property otherwise sadly let down by a clearly unkept garden and the wifi issue. The hot tap in the upstairs bathroom needs to be replaced as it doesn't work, but the beds are super comfortable and the property has such a lovely feel to it. Disappointing management team is all.

    Takes just over an hour to walk along the beach into Whitby - very enjoyable and in the evenings we enjoyed some super food and a bar at The Hart Inn. Also Sandside Cafe does a cracking breakfast. It's our second Easter at Sandsend and we could be back next year.

    The Haggs is gorgeous house with everything a family would need. Clean, very well furnished i.e. the kitchen, as cooks we had everything we needed at hand. Very clean and beautiful. A joy to have been here. We want to come back!

The property

This is a truly lovely detached house - beautifully furnished - with sea views and gardens, a short stroll to the beach and close to the excellent local inn and restaurants. The entrance is via a covered porch into a hallway.

To the right is the sitting room with 37″ flatscreen TV/DVD player with comfortable sofas. The kitchen, has an oven, hob, dishwasher and large fridge/freezer and a large dining area which seats up to eight.

There is a separate utility room with a washing machine. There is a fantastic games room with 44″ flat screen TV/DVD, film library, games console (PS3) and fooball table. Off the kitchen is a luxury shower room plus a separate WC. The four bedrooms are found on the first floor.

There is a nautically-themed twin bedroom with sea views and a double bedroom overlooking the front with a king size bed.

There is second large bedroom to the rear, overlooking the garden with sea views and a super king size bed, plus a single bedroom, decorated with seaside-inspired accents of blue and red. The house bathroom has a lovely free-standing, claw-and-ball bath, WC and hand wash basin. To the rear is a large, enclosed lawned garden, with terrace and garden furniture, plus a lockable shed – ideal storage for bikes.

SANDSEND

Whitby 2.5 miles.

Lying on Yorkshire's spectacular Heritage Coastline, Sandsend is the ideal place for a family holiday with its award winning, wide sweeping beaches, rock pools and dramatic cliffs. Indeed this part of the coastline is known locally as the Dinosaur Coast because of the many fossils found here. In the season, beachside stalls offer everything from light snacks and drinks to boats, buckets and spades! Children will enjoy damming the little beck where it crosses the beach to form a freshwater lagoon - great (and safe) for paddling and boating! For the more energetic the village sits on the lovely long distance Cleveland Way Trail, which offers great off-road cycling along the disused coastal railway as well as breathtaking clifftop walks. The National Trust now own the nearby headland, Sandsend Ness, where there is a delightful nature trail in the old quarry pits. A special place with something for everyone!
